We are so glad we booked our week long stay at Palazzo San Donato in Montepulciano. Gracie Mille to all staff, everyone was extremely helpful with exceptional hospitality. ❤️ Our room was excellent, we stayed in the pink (princess) room that overlooks Palazzo Grande. A very special thank-you to Valentina for planning and booking our excursions (cellar tours, pasta factory tour, horseback riding, cheese factory tour, two wine tours with lunch, a visit to Parco Villa Trecci, and dinner choices for the week, everything was perfect! Even though we had some rain, it didn’t stop us from exploring the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Another special thank-you goes to Natasha and Yvona’s hospitality and preparing a beautiful and yummy breakfast each morning. Porta di Bacco Osteria Enoteca, which is part of the Palazzo San Donato companies is a must go! Decor, ambience, service, and food were top notch. Vi amiamo tutti e non vediamo l'ora di tornare 🥰
Nothing…but please note Montepulciano is all on a hill, so be prepared to do a lot of walking up steep hills and stairs. Palazzo San Donato is at the very top right at the Palazzo Grande. We rented a car, which is a very good suggestion to do. You are able to drive up to drop off and pick-up your bags but will have to park in one of the parking lots. Some are paid and there is a free one as well.

Amazing concierge service. Valentina went over and beyond to provide us with a full itinerary (including all bookings) of the best places to see, eat and drink in the area. Thanks to her thoughtful itinerary we maximised our 3 days to the full. Breakfast was a lovely addition with fresh fare as well as fresh bakery from the hotel's bakery. This is a very personal hotel and we were made to feel very special. It is part of a group which also owns three excellent restaurants and other accommodation. The hotel is very connected with the top wine producers in the region so can provide VIP bookings. Breakfast was delicious. The old style Palazzo room was fitted with modern comfort ... comfortable beds, excellent linen, modern shower, plenty of drinking water courtesy of the hotel (essential in the heat of summer), quiet room, spacious ensuite, good WiFi etc. Looking forward to our next trip there.

The staff were extraordinary. They went above and beyond to make reservations for us for wine tastings and dinner so that we could make the most of our time there. They told us exactly where to park and were truly kind and helpful at every interaction. The location is at the top of the hill and walking around outside the room had views galore. So many fun things to do right in that part of town. There is a pick up for the little tour bus is right at the square. The room was quaint, the doorways were definitely short. But everything was functional.
The pictures on booking are beautiful. Yet I did not see these areas of the hotel. They are part of upstairs rooms. Our room was more plain and less ornate. Had I realized the photo shown for the room didn’t match. Or the fancy pictures were only from upgraded rooms and not open areas of the hotel, I would have upgraded. I may recommend calling and asking about the room you want so you know what you are getting ahead of time. I am certain the staff would help you have the experience you desire. (We couldn’t change when we arrived as there was not availability- all in all - we are still very happy with our stay. Shared pix of our room so you know what you get with the basic room vs upgrading.

Grand but cozy, this property is beautifully updated while maintaining the historic elegance from the 15th century. Our room was tiny but so beautiful. The bathroom and shower was up a half flight of stairs. There is a lovely fresco on the ceiling and through the window, a view of the square. Breakfast was delicious each morning with very personal service. All the staff we interacted with were very kind and helpful. Very tasteful and classic design with grand touches throughout.
You need to duck to use the bathroom facilities as the doorways are short - unless you are quite short, just be careful. And be careful not to stub your toe on the way in to the toilette.

The room was straight out of history, the paintings on the walls were exceptional, opening the window and looking out onto the piazza was fantastic. We were here during the Christmas market and the view, the smells, and the sounds of the people, music, and activity were wonderful.
The room was warm when we arrived, but was cold in the morning. We had closed the heavy curtains at night, and the inner wooden window covering, but the cold easily came through the single pane glass and there did not seem to be a way to engage the radiators to increase the temperature. This did give a little insight into what it might have felt like to live in that time when the palazzo was used by a royal family.

Valentina, our contact was delightful and very helpful as was the young man who was sometimes in the office. The woman ,Yvonne, who was our chef and server for the daily breakfast , was also warm and delightful. Unfortunately , we made a poor choice of rooms. Our room was without night tables and with a (private) bathroom that was up several steps and had low overhangs in the two doorways to the bathroom. My husband hit his head several times and I was concerned about missing a step on the stone stairs during the night. However, the location was great and all was clean.

The Palazzo is beautiful and located at the heart of Montepulciano - the Piazza Grande. The view from our suite was amazing - The rolling hills of Tuscany sprawled right in front of your eyes. The suite is so charming and very comfortable. The staff (Ms. Tanjot) afforded us a warm welcome and helped us with reservations for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was delicious and set in an idyllic dinning room that felt private and as if we were the only guests. The town looked even more magical decorated for Christmas. We can’t wait to visit again.

The historic architecture was maintained and serviced with impeccable and up to state standards. When we had difficulty locating public parking, the staff member helped with no hesitation and rode with us to find the parking lot. He also helped with fantastic recommendations for dinner. Breakfast at the dining room was also beyond lovely. The sweet and fresh pastry, fresh fruit and coffee etc will be part of our beautiful memory of San Donato.

Wonderful style and welcome - our room was great and very quiet and comfortable with plenty of space to host another couple for wine and cheese. Breakfast was very very good and the staff were perfect - helpful with great recommendations for coffee and lunch spots in the area and booking train to Florence. Cool all round.
Old places come with some interesting bathroom configurations but honestly it was all part of the charm

The property is in a perfect location off the corner of the main square, close to parking and amazing view to the farmland to the west and sunset views. Decor in the rooms enhanced the history of the building. Valentina who manages the hotel is amazing and there to help with anything to make your visit perfect.
We packed lightly so it didn’t matter there was no elevator.
