Relais della Porta exceeded all expectations. It occupies one floor of an old historic palazzo so it was very interesting to stay in such an historic building. We loved the old lift , 10c coins are needed to make it move but you are provided with coins in the hotel. The rooms have been modernised and were spotlessly clean, a comfy king sized bed and a balcony that let us enjoy people watching and the busy street as Naples went about its daily life. Breakfast was excellent, a great selection of dishes and wow, you can have home made cake for breakfast. The staff were very courteous and helpful. As this was a palazzo, the entrance is a huge portico through which horses and carriages passed into the cobbled courtyard. Huge wooden doors are closed at night and visitors use a small door inset into it. Certainly very secure. Not like your boring glass fronted hotels. The hotel is very central, easy walking to the old town, museums but there is a taxi rank close by. We would certainly stay again.

Nothing, loved everything

The location is perfect – right in the heart of Naples. Our room was lovely, with a balcony facing the street, and even though it's a busy area, the soundproofing was excellent. The lobby and breakfast room are beautiful and really highlight the charm of the historic building. Breakfast was excellent, with a rich and varied selection. The staff were very kind and helpful, offering great tips on what to see and do, and even helped us book taxis.

There was a bit of a musty or sewer-like smell in the room – possibly due to the age of the building – but it wasn’t too bad once we aired it out (or maybe we just got used to it). Also, the shower’s water temperature and pressure were a bit inconsistent.

Location is great in the center of Napoli. It is close to major shopping streets, excellent restaurants, and the metro. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We appreciated advice on how to find a doctor for our child. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Nice touch that the coffee machine and lounge area was available during the entire day. As pointed out by other reviewers, the hotel does not look inviting from the street and the court yard, but the inside is great. Nice historical building with renovated rooms.

Wifi was a bit unreliable so I found myself switching between WiFi and cellular to make sure onward always connected.

Wonderful staff - they went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. It is a small hotel on the 3rd floor, they whatsapp you prior to arrival and offer a pick up service which we used - it was fantastic to be met inside the airport and taken to right to the lift of the hotel. The location is on Toledo but the windows have great soundproofing so it was quiet. Wonderful new beds, all very clean and the breakfast was good too....

Naples is a gritty city which we actually loved this time as we got to know it more, be aware that old buildings don't look pretty on the outside but once inside it was great.

Beautiful hotel with lots of original features. We had a nice sized room with great views over Naples; recently decorated with modern bathroom. Great location on Via Toledo which is in the heart of the city surrounded by lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. The hotel is in between both the bay of Naples region (10mins walk) and the historical centre (5mins walk). Also there are several pick up points nearby (5-10mins walk) for some of the tour companies that do day trips to Pompeii, amalfi coast etc, as well as for the hop on/hop off city bus tour. Despite this, the hotel is still very quiet inside. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and on several occasions they helped us sort out certain things - special mention to Ester as she was at reception most days we were there! Breakfast was also very good, with probably the best "sweet treats" options I have come across at any hotel anywhere! The breakfast staff were also all great.

It is situated in a historical building, great location near the Toledo metro station, which is only four metro stops from the Piazza Garibaldi central station and also only 5 min walk from the Spanish quarter where all the good Italian restaurants are situated. The rooms are clean and spacious with A/C, the hotel staff is very friendly and always willing to help. The hotel/reception is located on the 3rd floor. You can either take the stairs or an elevator but you would need 10 cent for each ride. But you will get the coins at the reception. They also serve a very good breakfast in a historical restaurant from the 16th century.

Location is perfect, you can walk to the main tourist spots in Naples. Also very close to the Toledo metro station. Our room was very clean and silent. Breakfast was excelent: breads, cheeses, prosciuto, pastries, yogurt, granola, eggs, fruits, juices, pies: all you can wish for. Very good price for what you get. Thanks for all the staff, that served us always with a smile, especially Esther: knowledgeble, efficient and caring. Don't be put off by the elevator (the hotel is on the 3rd floor). It is in a beautifully restored pallazo, typical of Naples. Actually it added to the charm of our Naples experience.

The hotel rooms and also the whole venue were wonderfully renovated with great respect for the past. On the other hand it was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, very tasty with a variety of cakes, fruit etc. Special thank to the hotel manager Ester, who is doing an excellent job and who is taking care of the guests in all aspects. That made our stay even much more pleasant. All staff was very nice and helpful. The location of the hotel was close to the centre.

The first impression was not the best - the entrance to the hotel through the yard with the construction site and very confusing entrance sign. But after explanation we understood the reason - the whole building is an ancient palais and it is difficult to make any changes/renovations due to the fact that it is a historical building.

Thank you so much for the one of the nicest stays we had in Italy!! When we drove into the city, my boyfriend was shocked. After we left the car in a garage, he even was scared not to see his car ever again ;) After we got to the hotel, everything changed! The super lovely lady at the reception was just an angel! She made us feel comfortable! We were thinking to stay longer, but needed to go back to the north of Italy! The room was clean, and the aircon was quiet! The best breakfast we had in the last week! Beautiful hotel in a lovingly restored palazzo, on the floor once inhabited by scholar and scientist Giambattista della Porta. Our room was comfortable, well appointed, with working air conditioning (important in late July) and a comfy bed. The location is fantastic for those who wish to be centrally located, and the staff are very helpful in pointing out things to see and do around the hotel and in Naples generally. The staff really stood out as extremely helpful - they did everything to make our stay comfortable and welcome (thanks for the check-in Prosecco bottle!) and were responsive to any questions. Would definitely stay there again.
