Nice retreat. Location is about a 20 - 30min bus ride from Hakone station. From the retreat you can walk / bike (45min / 20 min) to hike the nearby mountain with a view over Fuji. I stayed 1 night which was fine. There isn't that much to do in the area so I'd recommend max 2 nights. All-day free, GOOD coffee (hard in Japan), in the cafe. A nice little place on the premises. This adds quite a lot if you want to chill there. GREAT breakfast Onsen were very nice, but a bit tugged away in the back, no view.

Rooms have aged somewhat (plaster coming off) and are themselves not very luxurious. Balconies do have a nice little view over the garden

The remote location in the wood that makes the retreat experience quite efficient. Room is really comfortable, lobby rooms are welcoming and onsen is really nice. The place is really clean and staff competent. The breakfast buffet is really good with a lot of choice and tasty products. Massage proposed additional service is really competent. I haven't tried the dinner nor room service. Location is good as it's 5 min walking distance from the bus stop for Hakone.

Despite the location, the onsen and the staff, the overall atmosphere does not feel Japanese style. The architecture of the place is pretty standard/occidental style. To be taken into consideration in case you are looking for a traditional Japanese experience like a ryokan for exemple. The place would need a little fresh up in some places (e.g painting) but it's really clean, which is the most important.

Location is wonderful for a restful few days. Beautiful nature. Room (actually two rooms) was brilliant, big and with everything you need. Staff was extremely kind and helpful. Breakfast was amazing. Onsen was very fresh and traditional. Will definitely come back again. Thank you to all the staff for your kindness!! 9,5/10.

Some of the walls in the room were a bit rundown, could use some new paint. Toilet in the room had glass walls - while you could pull down blinders, it was still not entirely private (but this might be a preference/cultural matter).

Loved the location, so peaceful in the woods after a busy week in Tokyo. The Onsens were empty each time we went and we were there in Golden week! Great facilities to change and shower beforehand. There's an indoor and outdoor onsen for each gender. Also booked a massage which was really relaxing. Also wanted to call out the attention to detail cooking to accommodate my shellfish allergy. We had to cancel a booking elsewhere as they wouldn't make any menu substitutions at all. We had a set menu included in our booking and everything was excellent. The chefs used different pans and utensils for me to avoid cross contamination. The staff were very attentive throughout and we really enjoyed the various areas to relax (the cafe, the area with the games and sake, the Onsens). I'm so glad we booked here!

The rooms need a coat of paint, it's strange to see the paint peeling when the rest of the place feels like a luxury resort. There's no way to control the temperature in the rooms, there's either heating or cooling depending on the season then you can either turn the unit on low, medium or high. You can't adjust the temperature or decide if you want it hot or cold. It would have been useful to have the option of a shuttle or cab service to a station after checkout. We were there in Golden week but it took us 1 hour 30 to get to Odowara station (when it was meant to be 30 minutes) and had to re-book our bullet train. The hotel said cabs weren't possible as it was busy and the first bus we waited for was full so we had to wait another 30 min for the next one.

We loved everything! The room, the forest view, the onsen, the breakfast -- all was outstanding. We ordered room service for dinner the second night because we were too tired after our day of hiking and it was perfect. Good value for our money and very healthy. Do that if you don't want to have their lovely restaurant dinner. Loved the pastry choices and coffee/tea/beverage choices in the common room. That room was wonderfully equipped with board games and books. The staff was wonderful. Both reception and the restaurant staff. Housekeeping staff were so nice too and efficient bringing towels or whatever we required.

The onsen clothing was too small. The tops and bottoms. Perhaps a larger size for us larger guests. Hahaha. No big deal, we wore our own clothes to the onsen.

The Hakone Retreat Forë is an exceptional place to stay - wonderful staff, extra treats such as sake and marshmallows round a fire as a welcome moment, slippers, cosy jackets to wear around the property, a serene onsen which is open most of the day, absolutely delicious food and although it feels like a 'world apart' from the rest of Hakone, the Venetian glass museum is a few minutes walk, Hakone Open air museum and the ropeway, an easy bus ride away. I travelled with my adult children and we all wished we could have stayed longer.

The place is just a dream! a wooden and modern resort hidden in the nature. Breakfast was excellent! The best hotel breakfast I have had in a while. The staff was also super supportive and attentive. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. They have different areas to play games, read, bonfire with marshmallows, of course a fantastic onsen. They give you clothes and a jacket in case you want to use to walk around the resort.

absolutely nothing! I would just mention that preferably you have your own transportation to reach there (we had)

Everything was well kept, a very serene space for a getaway.

Since the property is located in a remote area, public transportation was limited. Upon checkout, I was not able to get on a bus to head to a nearby train station for over an hour due to overcrowding. For the price paid for the room and boarding, it would be appreciated if the hotel can provide courtesy shuttles for their guests to the nearby train station. Many less expensive ryokans I have stayed at in Hakone will provide this service. It would be feasible if this property did the same.

Above all we liked the architecture of te place and nature around . The room setting is just so smart. You have your own little living room in the room with amasing view to the wood around. The onsen is just beautiful. The breakfast amazing. Just see to get a reservation for a dinner on time. We were late. You can rent a high quality electric bikes for exploring the area. We took a ride to a Hakone open air museum. We loved the place and we will be back for sure. They have amasing cake offer, and just great and helpful stuff.

The location is spectacular with peaceful scenery and the forest smell is beautiful. In spring all the garden was blooming and coming back to life. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast the food was excellent and the rooms are spacious and really beautifully presented. The Onsen was a welcome end to each day. You need to get a taxi to and from Gora to access things if you don't have a car but easy to do with an app. Otherwise there is a bus out the front that goes to the station. Highly recommended if you want to get away and enjoy some down time
