The building is very new, the rooms are big and spacious, full of comforts. The private onsen is an incredible experience, definitely worth it. The staff was so kind and helpful, especially the one in the restaurant. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic, the food was prepared methodically and it tasted amazing. The best hotel experience in Japan we’ve had.

Not a big deal at all, but some pictures indicate a public onsen or a hot bath. It is not there, as the hotel was renewed 3 years ago. We didn’t care, but it would be better if the hotel made it clear in case some customers wanted to access it.

We had the annex room with the en-suite Onsen and private garden which was a delightful experience. We booked this room specifically due to the separate-sex nature at most public Onsens. When booking we also expected there will be French cuisine for dinner, but this has now changed after the closure earlier this year and instead we were served a sukiyaki. A traditional Japanese special occasion dish that consists of a broth which you boil vegetable, mushrooms and slices of beef in. During this time there is a small open bar with various soft and alcoholic drinks. Breakfast was a traditional asagohan teishoku with fish custard, a grilled fish and a small candle heated broth to boil the various bits in. The room was extremely large and spacious and contained a TV-sofa area, a teppanyaki seating / bedding area and two comfortable king beds with Japanese style pillows. The staff were also friendly and helpful

It's quite a challenge to get to/from using the local bus, next time we would opt for a 10 minute taxi ride from the Hakone Ropeway. The garden could use some maintenance / deweeding. We were a little disappointed in the change of menu.

We had a room with separate onsen and it was very nice, we had dipped ourselves into the hot water several times during the day and were happy! :D We expected there will be french cuisine for dinner as we read in other reviews, but we were served a sukiyaki. I was a bit terrified as I did not know how to cook it, but the lady who served us explained everything with patience. Btw. there is no dresscode, but most people were wearing yukata which you can get in the main lobby based on your height. The room was spacious and luxurious. There was no mold in the room and it was not humid. We arrived early and wanted just to drop the luggage, but the room was already ready and we were offered to check in early as well, which was super good as the weather was cold and dump. Sitting in private onsen is better than freezing outside! :D And yes, in the room with private onsen there is no separate shower room, so if you want to simply shower, you need to go to the onsen room which can be quite cold.

Light turns on automatic in the hallway and in the toilet by movement sensots, you cannot turn it off, so if you want to visit the bathroom at night, you may experience a burst of light and energy right in your sleepy eyes :)

Staff was excellent and very friendly. Some of them spoke basic to moderate english and it was more than enough to get by. When we arrived we were offered welcome drinks to choose from, some of which included alcohol. We stayed in a separate Annex from the main building. It had pretty much all you need from in floor heating to our own private onsen and a mini garden out the back. It was a mix of traditional and modern interior. Size of the Annex was very big, great for a small family as it had two double beds along with two extra futons in the tatami area. The most notable part of our stay was the included dinner. Chef Saito is a master at his work on French cuisine. Each dish presented and executed almost perfectly with techniques I didn't know was possible. Breakfast was also included which is also worth it to partake in. Unfortunately, on the day of our checkout we missed out on the last bus going back to odawara station due to heavy snow. The manager and the staff were so kind to try help us find a way back for us. Though it was to no avail, as all buses and taxis were suspended. The manager ended up going out of his way to drive us back to the nearest available bus stop that was still in service. We ended up trying twice as the first time had heavy congested traffic. We returned back to the ryokan and departed again later in the afternoon.

The food is like heaven. We are fortunate to have tried all sorts of delicacies from all over the world, but what came out of Chef Saito’s mind and craft was a real standout!

We got the family room and it came with our own private onsen. The pictures that they put up doesn’t do any justice to the room. It was a really large room! Great space for a family of 4 and the private onsen was a great experience for our kids! Rooms were clean and warm. Beds were also comfortable! Food was great too!

Maybe more explanation could be given in English on wearing the yukata around the place and for the food they served.

I booked one night here because I really wanted to try the French cuisine, but our actual room looks even better in person than photos and were so satisfied with our stay here. Chef Saito is a master in his craft, the dinner was Michelin star quality and the breakfast was equally delicious! There isn’t much of a reception area as this resort is very small, only a few rooms. But the hospitality was great and the staff really tried to speak in English which we really appreciated.

Not the property’s fault but the two female guests sitting behind us during dinner were extremely disruptive to our dining experience. One of them kept leaving and entering the restaurant multiple times, we were sitting close to the door so it was really annoying, and they kept complaining about everything, and how she wouldn’t eat this and that. I think that staff should consider next time how to handle the situation better, as the hostess was not able to communicate with them well, since the guests didn’t speak English well either. We could not really concentrate on eating the delicious food when guests were hampering the experience.

We didn't experience meals at the resort, but my husband and I loved our room with private onsen and outdoor shower. The atmosphere was so soothing and peaceful. The room itself was also very large and included a couch which gave us a lot of comfort while we were there. The hotel was quiet and relaxing and the staff were all very kind.

Nothing! We loved everything about it.

The private onsen was great, even though the room was expensive. The breakfast and dinner were very good.

The staff was friendly but some of them seemed to be inexperienced, which was reflected in some issues. The private onsen space itself could have been a bit more tidy, in terms of removal of spider webs from some parts of the ceiling etc.

The whole experience: the very friendly and welcoming staff, the comfortable beds and spacious rooms, starting and finishing the day at our private onsen, the recommended Mount Ashigara hike passing through the Kintoki shrine, and last but not least the phenomenal(!) food. We absolutely recommend Hakone Kuoritei for your next Hakone visit!
