It’s very hard to be unhappy when you’ve been to Hakone. Hotel Okada is beautifully positioned, the facilities, the food and the staff are great. The onsen facilities are great and very therapeutic and the rooms are a great living space with such a calming atmosphere. We truly enjoyed our stay.

I’m not a fan of sleeping in separate beds and we didn’t have the option of a double bed. The air conditioner wasn’t working and it wasn’t just our room, because our family were in another room and had the same problem. It would only warm the room and it was quite stuffy.

Great location and friendly staff!

There should be a little more information about the rules around using the onsens before making a booking. We were very much looking forward to the onsens but were unable to use them with swimwear.

we enjoyed the Onsen that was adjacent to the hotel. Very cool to experience. Also the dinner and breakfast buffets provide a wide choice of selections. Again allowed us to sample various Japanese dishes. The room was charming and the yukatas added to the Japanese experience. the staff were friendly and very helpful.

The hotel is a bit of a hike out of town. On the time/day of our departure the shuttle bus that serves the hotel was full so we had to use a taxi to return to the train station (860 yen). Minor problem.

- Both the private onsen and public onsen facilities are great and convenient especially in cold weather. - Buffet meals had a good variety. - Complimentary extra bathrobes for guests to choose near the reception area was a nice touch. - Staff were helpful despite the language barrier. - Short distance from Hakone-Yumoto Station by shuttle bus or cab.

- Design of the private onsen and room's shower area could be improved. The shower facilities and open air private onsen bath could be separated with a door to prevent insects from disrupting guests while showering. - Intervals for the shuttle bus are too long during certain times of the day.

The suite was a great size and had a great view (with large balcony) through the hills and valley. The hot bath was fantastic. Service was excellent.

The food was underwhelming. We bought the expensive meals option and while the food was good, it was more like a good quality bistro, not high quality dining that we expected for the price. The only other criticism is that the hotel is hard to get to with very limited taxis and a bus service that gets packed like a sardine can. It is challenging to get to and from with luggage and I'm surprised the hotel does not make better use of their own shuttle bus for getting patrons to and from the train station with luggage.

Plenty of amenities. I loved the skincare options provided in the room and the coffee station. The buffet was good and had plenty of options. We hadn’t tried the public bath and massage service but it’s nice that it’s there. Also the shuttle service was great to the station.

The air conditioner in our room kept turning off and we woke up hot in the night. It could have malfunctioned but we did not want to bother anyone so we just left the winder open. This could be a problem for hot summer nights. Also, we wish the shuttle had service from the station to the hotel as well, not just one way from hotel to station.

We booked a western room with two beds and two futons, without a private olsen. We just used the public olsens in Hotel Okada. We had two main surprises during our stay. One was that we had breakfast included without realising. The breakfast buffet variety was great and grand, catering for all cuisine types. We didn't get to experience the dinner buffet as it was not included in our rate, but if its anything like breakfast then you'd be in for a feast. For dinner we went to the restaurant out and next to Hotel Okada which had quality Japanese food and menu. The other surprise is that you don't were swimmers in the Olsen, you must go naked. At the start my 12 year old son was a bit embarrassed but when we went both days in the late afternoon 3pm and it was really only my son and i there in the public male olsen. Similarly my wife and daughter said it was the same for them around that time also. Rooms were great and the staff and facilities went above and beyond. For example in cases when they noticed a queue of people waiting for the public bus/van service to and from hotel to Hakone Yumoto station they had their own hotel van that would step in and take some of the excess people in the queue to ensure that people aren't inconvenienced.

Other people talk about the location and walk required to get the hotel being uphill. We had no issues as we always took notice of the bus shuttle service times and used it.

excellent place, nice staff, everything clear

the location was kinda hard to reach if you are going using public transportation, you need to walk a lot after the bus stop. And be aware most of the clients are group of people so at night you can hear sometime others people be loud. And remember if you want to dinner you need to ask in the check-in process.

- Beautiful scenery - Really helpful staff, and some reception staff had really good English - luggage storage pre-check in - had yukatas + pajamas + in-house bag + slippers Major highlight 1: Private onsen option was spacious enough for 2 and easy to use. Especially great option for my husband and myself who are only there for a night to maximise onsen time and use at our own pace Major highlight 2: We got dinner included, so we ate at the Sky Lounge. It was a buffet style and all you can eat for 90 mins. The food was varied and absolutely delicious. We ate till we were almost bursting because there was so much to try and it was just that good. Major highlight 3: the room was spacious! We really enjoyed the living room area. **note for travellers: We took a taxi to the hotel from Hakone-Yumoto station - cost about 900 yen. Worth it because there’s quite a hill to walk to the hotel (and we had heavy luggage). On the way back, we took the shuttle bus, which costs 200 yen per person. Very cheap and handy, but it can be quite squishy if you have big luggage (it comes up with you to the seats) and make sure you have the exact amount (hotel staff helped us with change - thank you!).

The beds were 2 singles which is not ideal (would have liked a double)

Rooms were very fancy & sleek, clean and tidy and the onsen with a view out the window was so surreal! The location is amazing, just far enough away from the town that you feel like you’re super secluded in your own little oasis but just a taxi ride away from the main station as a base to explore the hakone area, staff were super friendly and helpful and we loved all the options for breakfast and dinner.

They didn’t allow an early check in which was tricky with our travel plans but we’re happy to store our luggage, the food in the buffet dinner wasn’t particularly hot but to have that much option to choose from we didn’t mind! There were also lots of loud families and children running around so if you’re a solo traveller or couple be aware of that, but for big groups and families this is the perfect place!
