We had an exceptional stay at HOTEL MASTAY Jingumichi. The apartment was incredibly spacious, with two bedrooms. One was fully separate with two large double beds, and another was semi connected to the large living area, also with two large double beds. It could easily sleep up to eight people, but was perfect for our group of five. The apartment was extremely well equipped, with a full size kitchen, oven, cooking ware, fridge, freezer, and a private washer and dryer. It was great to have the space and convenience of a real home during our time in Kyoto. We enjoyed having breakfast together around the large dining table each morning. The location is ideal. It is just outside the busy center, making it quiet and relaxing, but still close to a subway station for easy access. It is also within walking distance of the Gion district, which is a great area to explore with its traditional streets and atmosphere. We had planned our stay during the Gion Matsuri and were lucky to see the parade with the floats. We reserved seats online and had excellent views. It was a memorable experience and worth organizing in advance. The nearby museums are also worth a visit, especially the Kyocera Museum where we caught the Yayoi Kusama exhibition. Another bonus was the option to reserve a parking space just behind the property, which was very convenient. The apartment setup gave our stay a very different feeling compared to the hotels we stayed at elsewhere in Japan. The kids really welcomed the extra space, and it allowed us to spend more relaxed family time together. An excellent choice for anyone looking for comfort and flexibility in Kyoto.

The only thing to note is that the apartment faces a main street, which made it a bit noisy early morning.

The 2 bedroom suite was very roomy and comfortable for 4 adults. I wouldn't mind living there! Good location near some shrines. They provided some restaurant locations nearby which we used for breakfast. They provided umbrellas when it rained one day. Hotel provides water bottles and refills the refrigerator. Beds were comfortable and washer/ dryer was a plus since we stayed at the mid-point of our Japan trip.

Great that there was two toilets. Would have been nice to have two showers as well. Not that big of a deal as it only delayed us for maybe an hour or less to get out in the morning. However, might be an issue for some. Not a reason not to stay at this hotel though.

The apartment was spacious, well designed, comfortable and well decorated. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Free coffee is always a good thing! There are metros and busses close by as well as some nice cafes and restaurants

The English level of most of the staff was not that good - however we managed fine with google translate as backup. There was a crossroad outside the hotel which beeped when pedestrians can cross - disturbed my partner but I couldn't hear it - sometimes hearing loss is an advantage. It runs from 7am to 7pm and will only trouble someone with good hearing who is sensitive to that kind of thing. The location was ok but a bit far from downtown, there are no large supermarkets nearby.

Excellent location for easy walking to major sites. Excellent bus service just out the door....and train stop a short walk away. Felt very safe in this quiet area. Nice to actually have a reception desk. (which offered treats) Felt very spoilt by towel and cleaning services offered. Nice PJs too. Great little kitchen and easy to use Washing Machine. We had 4 beds and a nice table in the seating area. Yes, it was a bit of a squeeze when there are 4 beds...but we all had lovely comfortable double beds. ...and a big closet for suitcases and clothes. I would certainly stay here again. (Important)...read the "very clearly" written english signs regarding temperature control of water. In other words don't get creative pushing buttons. I am laughing....

Maybe mugs with handles.... otherwise the cups worked okay. Maybe a wall map in the Lobby area to help with quick City orientation.

The hotel is designed with the traveler’s comfort in mind, down to every last detail. Our studio apartment had everything we needed. The kitchenette is well-equipped, and the hotel even provided soy sauce, salt & pepper for light cooking, as well as kitchen towels for light cleaning. The bathroom is simply amazing - I had the best bath / shower ever, even more so than in fancy brand name hotels. The bed was firm and comfortable, we all slept very well. When it comes to location, we loved the quiet and picturesque neighborhood, 3 mins from the river. It’s within 15-20mins walk to the popular Gion area but away from the noise & crowd. Metro is 5 mins walk away, bus stop is 2 mins away and Lawson’s is next door. Couldn’t ask for more! Tip for parents with young children: there is a pretty fun playground just 5 mins away from the hotel, right before the entrance to Heian Shrine. You can even grab coffee & breakfast or ice-cream on the way!

We almost didn’t book this hotel initially because the room design looked rather soulless and uncharacteristic of Kyoto, but I am so glad we did.

Beautiful apartment that comfortable slept and catered for a family of 5 (4 of whom are 6 foot or taller!) Clean, modern, and the washer/dryer came In useful. Loved the amenities including pyjamas and toiletries. Great location - 300m to subway station And walking distance to Gion. Lots of eateries within walking distance. Staff communicated well in English and were a great help using the luggage forwarding service to send our bags ahead of us to Tokyo. Price was very reasonable for a spacious apartment that comfortably slept 5 (on 3 queen size beds)

Honestly, there was nothing I could fault and would definitely stay here again.

Very good location not far from subway station, quiet if you stay in rear facing apartment and within walking distance of many attractions in east Kyoto. Size was o.k. and most facilities look very modern and in excellent condition. Beds were comfortable. Staff always polite and helpful.

The kitchen doesn't really fit it's purpose to cook and prepare food on a daily basis. The refrigerator is small and placed on the floor, making it difficult to use. Very few utensils. The sofa was worn and outdated, in contrast to the other furniture. The windows were locked so no ventilation was possible

Hotel Mustay Jingumichi is an excellent choice for Kyoto being in an area with good close subway links and walking ability to tourist sites. The accommodation is large sized and for our 6N stay, we loved our room being a studio apartment with fully equipped kitchen, great bathroom area with washing machine & separate toilet. There was a very comfortable large bed, roomy wardrobe area, lounge & dining areas and we could spread out which was much appreciated during our 5 week trip to Japan. The accommodation was very clean with lovely staff on duty (not 24 hr) who were very helpful. There was double glazing which ensured the busy road noise was minimal.We found good restaurant & cafe options very close by as well as convenience stores. On a prior trip to Kyoto we had stayed in another area however we really preferred this location and room size, which was also a very good price. Would definitely stay again.

Our allocated apartment did not have much of a view/outlook due to the floor level.

There is no breakfast offered at this hotel. But there is a full kitchen, so we were able to prepare our own the room is spacious, and set up in such a way that it felt perfectly functional. bathroom was clean and modern. fantastic shower. toilet separate from the sink/ shower, so super convenient if not staying alone. the location was great. super convenient, with subway and buses half a block away. not too touristy even though it's close to the zoo and art museum. good restaurants, convenience stores, and grocery store close by.

It is not easy to find a room with basic kitchen facility in urban hotel. Those equipments gave us alternative on handling deep night meal from the convenience store. There are multiple ways to get to various part of the city, bus stop and metro station are nearby.

There is a tempura stop in the same building under our room. The oily smell filled up the room, have used the air refresher bought from the convenience store to neutralise it. The position of the TV is at the mid of the room between the table and beds, so you will have no chance to watch the TV directly from both chairs or beds straight away as the room is slender in size.
