Simply everything: The wifi: excellent The showers and toilets: Immaculate The staff: are AMAZING 🤩 The entire place is immaculate Location: exceptional Humidifier in the room Aircon too Beds are amazingly comfortable One item I have to reward the guest house on is their total respect for the traveler/ backpacker. We experienced some issues with the toilets and instead of doing nothing we ALL received a note apologising for any inconvenience caused and a bill of ¥.1000 ($6.55) left on ALL our beds as a gesture of good will and appreciation for our understanding - One word for this WOW!.... Only in Japan; I have traveled to over 127 countries and stayed in thousands of hostels /hotels/ guest houses etc etc and I can tell you now I have never experienced such an amazing level of detail and generosity. 10/10 for this accommodation and their hard working staff...
Nothing to report....

Lovely hostel, very friendly and welcoming staff who are happy to help! Well located with subway stations a short walk away, making it very easy to explore Osaka. Many convenience stores and restaurants nearby. Easy check in and check out process. Clean rooms and facilities which match the description and photos. Futon beds were comfortable and overall a very pleasant experience! Nice coffee too in the cafe downstairs and some food options. Would recommend! ありがとうございます :)
It is an old japanese house so not the most soundproof but they provide earplugs. Didn't find it an issue and after a day of exploring Osaka, you will sleep absolutely fine! :)

I loved the history of the building and the street that it was located on (lots of small eateries nearby). The person who checked me in (Kato - sorry if spelling is incorrect) was really kind, and the hostel is SOO CLEAN. I felt very comfortable staying here because of how clean it was. People were also respectful of quiet hours which I appreciated. One stop from Osaka-Umeda station, so pretty convenient location.
I saw another guest wear her Tevas in the hostel, when everyone was asked to not wear shoes inside. I hope future guests who stay here will be more respectful.

As I arrived earlier than the check-in time I was able to leave my bags at the accommodation. Staff was very friendly and facilities were very clean. I really enjoyed the proper Japanese room with the floor mattress. The location was really good - lots of restaurants, pubs and bars nearby. Two main public transport stations are within 1-3 mins walking.
Some of the photos here on booking.com were taken when the guesthouse was "quite empty" and that gives a wrong impression. If you are noise-sensitive - as it is a old Japanese house the walls are not soundproof you might understand people in the room next to you chatting. But everyone was very quiet and the guesthouse provides earplugs.

I had one of the best stays of my Japan trip at U-en. The beds were spacious and the location was good, very close to the train station and some nice cafes. The cafe downstairs makes one of the best cappuccinos I've had here, it made me feel like I was back home (and they have soy milk!). Most importantly, the staff were all so great. It really feels like we've become good friends so even though I didn't meet many people at the guest house I didn't feel lonely because of the staff. I would love to come back and see them all again ☺️
Maybe I was unlucky but the other guests weren't super social, it seemed like most people were working

Lovely hostel just above a coffee shop. We stayed in a double room with very comfortable futon beds. Toilets and showers very clean with free amenities like shampoo and conditioner. Large communal space with 2 big tables and a seating area. Some free tea/coffee but no milk so you would need to get some! Kitchen facilities if you wanted to cook ramen ect. Little 7/11 down the street perfect for snacks and breakfast. Lots of great ramen places in walking distance (recommend the duck ramen at moe-men). Can store luggage after checkout for a small fee but we didn’t need to use that.
Not a huge amount of socialising but this probably depends on the day!

I really liked this place and even extended my stay. Female dorm was clean, wifi good throughout, hot showers. Place was kept clean throughout the day despite a lot of people being around. Lovely, friendly staff who really made the difference! I hope to return later in my trip. Recommended.
Small hostel so your experience will very much depend on the behaviour of other guests. Female dorm doesn’t have much room for bags but it worked ok when others were considerate. Same with room temp at night - like a sauna when one person decided to turn up the heat, fine other nights. Just manage your expectations. I still highly recommend staying here.

Staff was super friendly. They went out of their way to help me when I mentioned I was looking for glue to fix my luggage. They also gave me home cooked food when they held their own staff party for new years. Plenty of showers (3-4) and bathrooms although small were great. I like the traditional neighborhood and the fact that the guesthouse is a restored 1910 home!! Cafe downstairs also gave us a free drink because the staff was so nice and wanted to makeup for little mishaps like me missing my rooms lock.
Only thing that I didn't like was one other guest in my dormitory. Some rude lady woke me up at 2am to tell me I was snoring and thought my girlfriend was sleeping in the same bed as me. I was sleeping alone, and I feel she was just jealous something ???

One of my favorite places to stay in Japan. The staff are so nice and friendly. There’s a cafe downstairs and the area has so many restaurant options. And it’s just a walk away from the train station so it’s very convenient. The same station also has a direct line to KIX. I stayed in several different rooms, 2 single rooms and a 4 bedroom room. I’d recommend either the single room that’s a futon on tatami. Or the women’s 4-bed shared room (if you’re traveling with light luggage). Both were nice and quiet. I Like how there’s clear rules about keeping quiet after a certain time and the place feels clean. There’s a kitchen space where you can lounge around too.
There’s a room I think called momo with a round door and double bunk bed. The entrance is a bit awkward if you have luggage. And its not as spacious as other rooms. It’s also right next to the street so there will be noise from the street below.

Upon arrival, the staff were friendly and helpful with check-in. I enjoyed my stay here at Guest House U-En. I was recovering from food poison and the staff were kind in supporting me when I asked for an extra blanket for warmth. There was a train station accessible nearby for convenience. ありがとうございました!
It would be great if the bedroom curtains were more opaque. When I slept, I found that the sunlight seeped through the cracks and this slightly disrupted my sleep (particularly as I am a very light sleeper).
