Very friendly and helpful staff, and a great traditional Japanese feel throughout the building. We stayed in a twin room which was much bigger than expected. The onsen and sauna on the top floor is fantastic. Great location, walking distance to Akihabara and Ueno. Fantastic value for money.

Cleanliness, whilst good enough to not be a major issue at all, could be improved a little. Wooden door on bathroom with the shower directly facing it is not great for mold/mildew build up.

Definitely the rooftop Onsen! Staffs are friendly and with breakfast supply adds the value to the stay. And I like the hotel interior display with the Showa vibes. Quiet at night too.

Although it is not too far from metros, you have do some hilly walks to reach hotel which is a bit challenging. Other than that it is totally fascinating.

The price is exceptional for location. It is a quieter neighborhood than other areas of Tokyo, which is nice to escape from how hectic it can be in the city. It is only a 10-15 minute walk from Akihabara. It takes about 10 minutes to get to one of the several subway stops around, and it takes about 20-25 minutes total to get to most areas downtown (including the walk). The room was spacious, and the futon was comfortable. I loved the opportunity to stay in this traditional/retro style hotel for an affordable price. The common bath area was enjoyable, I happened to go when no one else was there so it was all to myself, which removed the nerves of going to a public bath alone for the first time. The breakfast was good, it was traditional style and even though I am a picky eater I was able to find food to enjoy. The staff was very kind and welcoming.

The hotel is at the top of a hill as other reviews may say. The only time the hill was arduous was when lugging two pieces of luggage up, so if you can coordinate luggage shipping services this may be worth it. Without luggage I did not mind the hill.

The personnel were really really nice. The room and the futon were comfortable and the room service of the restaurant was excellent. The provide us with a futon for our baby.

The bathroom wasn't very clean.

I liked how nice the place was. The staff were plenty nice and the facilities are pretty modern for what I would expect from a hotel that was made in the 60s. The size of the room was also pretty large for a typical hotel and I really enjoyed my stay.

I didn't like that the location was on top of a hill. Although this can be mitigated by using a rental scooter or bike. It's pretty difficult to go up the hill specially when you're not fit and carrying a lot of luggage.

Although the hotel looks old, it enhances the overall experience with its traditional ryokan style. Close to train and metro stations. The surroundings are quiet, yet the hotel is close to Akihabara and Ueno, making it a great place to both relax and enjoy the city's vibrancy. I appreciated that the ofuro is open all night—it’s perfect for unwinding, whether due to jet lag or after a long day. The check-in and check-out times are more convenient compared to other hotels in Japan. The breakfast is Japanese-style and very good, though they also offer croissants for guests who prefer a more Western option.

If you're looking for a more traditional place to stay, this is a great hotel, especially when considering the low prices. The staff is kind and helpful. The rooms are spacious and clean. The futon bed was laid out by staff and I slept quite well on it. The location is good; the hotel is uphill, but central and it's easy to reach other parts of Tokyo. The breakfast is simple, but fine.

The hotel is a little bit outdated, which to me had its charm but visitors should not expect a modern 4-star hotel. The airconditioning unfortunately stopped working in the middle of the night. The toilet was very small. There can be some noise from outside (traffic, airconditioners, etc.) when opening the windows, although when keeping the windows close it was very quiet. There are smoking areas within the hotel and you can smell some smoke even if you have a smoke-free room. But to me these were mostly minor issues and I enjoyed my stay here.

Pros: - coffee and tea all day - Japanese breakfast with some Western options - the clean onsen and game room that was perfect at the end of a long day. - the very helpful and friendly staff - the location was great for longer stays, Summit Supermarket and a coin laundry just up the street. - Subway stations are all within walking distance. Akihabara is very close to walk to.

The traditional beds were good initially but after 3 days, my back and hips were achy. Definitely not great for bony people.

the staff was kind and helpful and all spoke English which we appreciated. Our room which was the deluxe twin for two people was spacious and it was nice to have the option to bathe/shower in the room or use the big bath. The futons were absurdly comfortable. It was nice to have breakfast included which was pretty high protein with fish and egg and meat options. If you are not a fan of Japanese breakfast style it may be a difficult adjustment but I loved it.

The hotel is a little older so there are some aspects of the room that show that for example the wooden door to the shower was black from water. Also there was some hair on the tatami that was there when we arrived but no big issue. There is also a long (but not steep) hill to walk up from Yushima station that was difficult some nights.

I was sick for the last part of my Japan trip, so I didn't really do anything in Tokyo other than rest on the futon in my room most of the time. So, it was nice that this was a comfortable room, the little leather couch was also comfortable. It was nice to have my own bathroom and shower in my room. The room was just right for one person not too big not too small. I never tried the public bath, so I don't know if it is nice or not. The staff was helpful. It was not too expensive and a decent price for Tokyo. It is not too far from Ochanomizu JR station unless you are sick, have to carry heavy bags and can't find a taxi then some of the hills up to the hotel can be kind of rough. The Kanda and Yushima shrines are very close to the hotel and make a nice little outing, this was all I did in Tokyo, for an hour or 2 one day when I felt well enough to get up. Other places like Akihabara seem close but was too far for me at the time. There were a lot of foreigners at this hotel, sports team, families, friends, solo etc. so I think it is probably a good hotel for foreigners. I had read some bad reviews on other travel sites, so I was a little worried about staying here but I had a good stay.

Being an old hotel (from late 60s?) it is a little worn, dinged, dented and scuffed but it is still nice and pleasant. Out of all the breakfasts I had at hotels in Japan this definitely wasn't the greatest. Sorry it would be at the bottom. Some food was cold, frozen when it wasn't supposed to be, and it could have been better. Breakfast was Ok (just Ok)/ decent enough but not great.
