If you’re looking for a peaceful escape with a laid-back surfer vibe, this hostel in Piha is an absolute gem. The place is spotless, and the communal area is incredibly cozy—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The garden is a dream, with chickens roaming freely and a breathtaking view of lush green hills. One of the highlights was the nearby waterfall hike, which was stunning and easy to access. The people here make the experience even better—the manager is incredibly kind and helpful, and the owner even took us to a local lawn bowls evening, which was a blast! The atmosphere is just perfect—super welcoming, friendly, and relaxed. If you’re looking for good vibes, great people, and a beautiful setting, this is the place to be. Would absolutely stay again!

Peaceful. You could hear a pin drop. The room itself had no facilities (except ensuite) but it opened to a communal large lounge , dining and kitchen area. The staff were lovely. Unfortunately it was raining during our stay so we didn't use the BBQ facilities our outdoor decks. We were the only people there except for an exchange couple who welcomed us. (Working there). There is a stream that runs behind the house, which was nice to cross to the hens who provide the home with fresh eggs. Close to the beach and restaurants but because of the rain we drove to all these places. We had a lovely lunch at the surf club and dinner at the RSA as everything else had closed because of the weather. Both meals were great. Would stay again.

Not a deal breaker but it is a Communal TV/lounge. . We felt a bit uncomfortable as an older couple when returning from dinner and the other couple were settled into a movie. Because of the weather it would have been nice to come back to our room and watch a movie( which we ended up doing on my phone🤣)

Such a beautiful property with a lovely big open lounge/kitchen area. Friendly hosts who had lots of recommendations for walks and things to do in the area. I was in the shared dorm which was fine for a dorm, toilet facilities were nice and clean. Loved the amount of books and games in the lounge. There is a friendly cat and dog and also some nice outdoor space you can use. Really well located for walking and for the beach.

I guess it was a little on the expensive side for a hostel dorm, but maybe this is just the prices in the area, I’d have liked to have stayed longer but this is the only thing that stopped me.

Nestled near a breathtaking beach, this hostel is a gem for travelers seeking both nature and sightseeing. With its pristine maintenance and attention to detail, guests are guaranteed a comfortable stay. The living room is pleasantly furnished with quiet music at a volume that's just right for you: it won't stop you from working or making a phone call. I love the idea of offering fresh free range eggs that are partly fed with the guests' scrap. There are 2 very nice walks within walking distance: there are waterfalls at the end of the road and a path that climbs up and gives a view of the whole of Piha on the other side.

Just be aware you can feel the cold during the night

Perfect location. Close to walking trails and the beach. walking distance to the pub too. Hosts are exceptional. Beautiful house with high ceiling and homey vibes. this gives you the well-deserved escape. They've also got books and board games. I think you'll enjoy this place whether you're a solo traveller (like me) or you come with pals. Oh hey they've also recommended Ange for airport transfers. I highly recommend her if you're not bringing a vehicle

The Pihs Beachstay is a lovely accomodation in Piha. The whole premise is beautiful and it's a little relaxing green oasis with wonderful mountain views. The dorm room had a lot of space and bathroom facilities have been clean and were well equipped. The kitchen/dining/lounge area is a nice open space with plenty of room and well equipped. The team was really lovely and it was a really relaxed stay with a beautiful vibe. Would have loved to stay longer.

Friendly staff in a beautiful house made it hostel! with outstanding surroundings. The bed was super comfortable, the kitchen was clean, tidy and with all the necessary implements to cook. Also, lots of space in fridge and shelves for your food. The bathroom was nice too, hot shower, towel, body wash and clean! And the common areas is just beautiful, with lots of gameboards and a fire pit that should be amazing for cold winters. If I have the opportunity to comeback to Piha, I'll choose Piha backpackers to stay no matter what! Good job Piha Backpackers, wish you the best. :)

Nothing at all! everything was better than expected.

This place is amazing. It’s so comfortable, cute and feels like home. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, especially Jeff! The kitchen & living room area is beautiful and super clean, you will meet other great travelers. The terrace and garden are absolutely beautiful and its a great place to calm down. You will meet lots of healthy and cute chickens on the property. We absolutely loved this place & will be back soon!

The property is beautiful, great location, great amenities, comfortable, clean. Organized like a hostel but with the vibe of a mid to upscale yoga retreat. The shared space and outdoor spaces are beautiful. The view from the bedroom is breathtaking.

It was hot inside the room (late summer) so slept with the window open, but then there were mosquitoes buzzing and biting. Noise between the bedroom and the common space was well managed but not much insulation between rooms. The people in the next room chatting and using a hair drying late at night as disruptive to sleep.

Located in a beautiful setting, lush and green, flowers, nice hikes right out the door. You can walk down to Piha beach from there, but there isn’t a pedestrian path, and roads are narrow. The roads are still being repaired from storm damage over the past year. The kitchen and eating areas are spacious and comfortable, making it easy to meet your fellow travelers; there is a lot of outside seating as well. Our room was very clean and comfortable; the shared bathrooms were also very nice. I’d go back there in a minute!
