The hotel was warm and dry and comfortable. For a structure that was built way back in 1829 it is not too bad. Bed was comfy. Huge. Air con in the room. Shower large enough for 2. There is a small kitchenette with a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge. That way you can take your own breakfast supplies. If you don't want to do that then there is a great café 50 meters from the hotel door that does breakfast. They open early. For lunch and dinner the on site restaurant does a lunch and dinner menu all at reasonable prices. Menu was simple and not too busy. (Can recommend the lamb shanks for dinner). All in all a good experience.

The staff and facilities were good. The disappointing thing that I noticed is that the Historic places trust is letting the hotel go to rack and ruin. It is now starting to show its age and in need of some basic repairs. Other than that it is a grand old hotel. Parking is not that great.

We loved everything.. if ur a soldier its smaller than ur barracks and has more toilets and showers then I've ever seen in a place.. its nice and old and you can tell theirs history their that not many would know about. For those who always expect 5 star ur dreaming mate lol appreciate the effort and mahi the staff and owners already put into the place. The struggle is real; so if ur living paycheck to paycheck like the rest of us and ur only in dargaville for a few days, go there. Have a shot at the pokies down stairs or the TAB, get yourself a munch as well or a beer. Just be realistic in ur choice of accomodation and dont hate on a place thats just playing their own role in the game of thrones - IYKYK

If you want to stay in a piece of NZ history and don’t need a 4 star hotel, this is a great option - bonus for the friendly locals and kareoke singalong in the pub downstairs!

The bathrooms

This place was amazing! I booked abit late, but they were able to cater to my needs as I booked this place for work and due to the flooding I wasnt able to go further up because the roads were closed so I came here they even let me come through with extra late check in which was amazing

The location worked out great for me, easy access and plenty of on street parking, over night, great bed to sleep on, good sized room, the shower was fantastic in the ensuite.

The Hotel is old, the room was comfy but very dated, creaky floor boards, not well sound proofed, didnt see anyone at reception, except when I checked in, it kinda felt like it was closed? I dont think it was value for money, but i would stay there again, not totally negative. Didnt quite meet my expectations.

Beautiful service, beautiful food, beautiful clean deluxe suite. We enjoyed everything about the Northern Wairoa Hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful, and hospitable.

Looking a bit run down in places. In need of a bit of a do-up. Not enough power outlets in the room.

Staff are wonderful. I needed a power point but there wasn't one. They were so helpful, changed my room no problem at all

i loved the old retro style of the hotel. the staff were nice and welcoming. the lady when i checked out was especially hospitable, keep her on.

Not that i didn't like but i thought it would be great if the rooms were in the same retro decor as the hallways. Also, maybe if the rubbish collection could be delayed till after 7am that would be more acceptable for your guests.

For a 120yo building, it is in remarkable condition. Rooms were very clean and tidy, lovely comfy beds, (the right height). Staff very welcoming, and helpful. A great stay. TV and Wi-fi in the room.

One or two scuff marks on the wall, and a drippy tap over the bath that dripped all night.
