The Birchwood Manor Motel is the best motel we have stayed at in New Zealand. Starting with a friendly and helpful welcome on reception we found our upstairs room to be outstanding. It had a large lounge with two couches a dining table, three sit up chairs, a flat screen TV, reasonable free wi-fi, a coffee table, a kitchen area equipped with a double hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, ample supplies of coffee, tea and milk. The bedroom had a comfy double bed and a single. The lounge also had a single bed at one end. The bathroom and shower were excellent and there was a separate en suite toilet. Everything about the place was first class – new, fresh, clean and serviced. We paid £173 for two nights. We used the laundry as well – free detergent and only $4 in total to wash and dry a full load of clothes. Invercargill surprised us – a modern city with a historic centre and some genuine old buildings. Also an amazing park with fabulous flowers, a small walk through aviary and an animal enclosure with some Tuataras. We also spent a carefree afternoon on Oreti beach – with its wide sands and rough but shallow surf. A good place to nestle in the sand dunes and get an all over tan. Altogether a fabulous place to visit.

The location was very ideal; we had a function at the Civic Centre which was easy walking distance from the motel. the supermarket was across the road and the Accomodation was located within easy distance of a variety of meal options.

The negatives were minor. The 2 bedroom unit was upstairs which was not as easy for my 84year old mum.... but there possibly was a similar unit downstairs as well. (I didn't check that out) The doors, particularly the front door needed a good oiling ...it had a horrific squeak every time it was opened and moved.... I kept thinking that I was annoying the people in the adjoining unit.

Location was good, as across the road was a Woolworths supermarket, however in Invercargill you cannot purchase alcohol from supermarkets. The bottle shop is only a 5-minute walk away though. Accommodation was lovely and spacious and a very warm welcome at reception and on leaving. Great TV amenities.

The pillows were slightly spongy and thin, so not comfortable for a good night's sleep, although the mattress itself was comfortable.

We were greeted very warmly by the owner when we arrived. The unit was super clean, the beds comfy and the in-unit cooking facilities are great. The location is handy - across the road from major supermarket and coffee shop. Town and activities for children are within walking distance. Great value for money.

Honestly there was nothing more we needed or wanted that wasn't already provided by the motel.

Lovely room, good location, good choice of teas and coffees in the room, including fresh milk. We loved the leather reclining chairs and the bed was really comfortable. The kitchen included a microwave, fridge and hob and was supplied with plenty of utensils, china, glasses etc.

My only negative was I asked for twin beds, as I was staying with my daughter, which they couldn't give us - the room I booked only had a king sized bed! It was however extremely comfortable.

Convenient location on main road into Invercargill, despite this there was no road noise. Large woolworths store just opposite which is very convenient. Large newly refurbished room, very well appointed with large queen size bed, separate lounge and dining/kitchenette. The room was spotlessly clean. Free on site parking. Would hughly recommend.

Comfortable large room and spacious bathroom. Dining table and chairs and two large and surprisingly comfortable armchairs. Well appointed kitchenette with microwave, toaster, electric kettle and small refrigerator. Right across the road from a large Woolworths supermarket. Parking onsite.

Great location close to town, extremely clean and daily housekeeping was a bonus. Super comfy lounge suite and the apartment had everything we needed for a long weekend in Invercargill.

The pillows were in need of replacement. Very soft and lumpy.

Room - 2 bedroom unit - number 9, was very comfortable. Recliner chairs, sofa all very comfortable. Clean unit, lady on reception allowed us in a little early. Motel has large supermarket across the street, plus some lovely parks to walk. Good location. Even though motel is on main road we heard no road noise.

If you are older or have any mobility issues then this motel could be a problem. No elevator so we had to carry our heavy luggage up a flight of stairs which was a little difficult. I would contact motel to know exactly how many steps you have to manage, as even downstairs units have a small number of steps down to them. Also the shower is located in the bathtub - so again not good for older persons to have to climb into.

A large comfortable room with equally large bathroom. Parking close to the Room. Quiet location despite being on a main road into the City.

Wifi was poor. It kept disconnecting and struggle to reconnect. Ended up using my mobile data. 15 - 20 minute walk into the centre.
