-This was my best stay in 10 different areas of the country and was the nicest private room I have had. It was more peaceful as there was only one adjoining room so there was not a common hall with others slamming doors and talking loudly. The area was quiet except for the music late on Sat night. Only place that had a decent frying pan in the kitchen. -Host gave me a free ride to the ferry terminal.

-The kitchen was dirty as has been the case in almost all hostels in NZ. But here there also was leftover food on the stove for hours and dirty dishes in the sink daily. Appeared dish towels were never changed during my 3-night stay. Couldn't find a plunger for my coffee. While the host provided breakfast, the milk appeared to be left on the counter for hours and likely was left out again the next day which presents risk of food poisoning. -Several times smokers sat outside at the tables with the wind blowing their toxic smoke into the kitchen and dining areas. -On Saturday night, music was played at a nearby location until around 1:30 AM preventing me from sleeping.

This was the best backpackers of the 5 we stayed at on our trip. Everything was very clean, kitchen well equipped, comfortable relaxed environment and the staff were really helpful. They also fixed a hazard within 15 minutes of us pointing it out. Other places had some nicer facilities but the overall package at Sequoia is really great.

Don't expect shiny and new - it looks a bit down market. But it's all clean and functional.

This is a long-established and comfortable backpackers. Every time we have stayed there we have received the same friendly greeting and helpful attitude.

While the premises are a little worn, if anything this adds to the sense of homelyness much better than everything being shiny and new! My only (small) criticism is that the outdoor areas, for example in front of the cabins, could have been a bit tidier.

For the price we paid it was great. It had more than we expected for a backpacker accommodation. The double bed was comfortable, and sheets and blankets were provided. Our room also had its own toilet and shower and hand basin. The communal kitchen was close by and contained surprisingly many useful items for the campers to use for food preparation and hot drinks. For budget accommodation, it is A+ from my point of view.

Parking was a bit limited, but street parking was ok, it wasn't far from where our cabin was located. We were able to park for a short time close to the cabin to unload in the evening, and reload in the morning. It wasn't a big deal really. It is hardly a negative for this place.

It is a welcoming place. Social area was comfy, warm with a fire box, fully equipped with all you need. Free breakfast, tea and coffee. All as it should be. Well done.

Unfortunately, no food or drinks in the room. This is an illogical rule that I was unhappy about. A cuppa before bed, water by bedside, a normal requirement for many. Wasn't pleasant to abide to this rule on our cold rainy stay there. This is the ONLY negative to our otherwise perfect accommodation

I stayed for luck in this hostel because I lost my bus to Nelson, everything was full and suddenly I found a free room so it was my only option. But it was a perfect experience. The room was spacious and very clean, beds are made of wood, the mattress is very comfortable. I did the check out at 10 but I stayed in the common areas until the departure of my bus. I liked this place so much.

It is a really nice and quiet hostel with a cosy community area. It's easy to meet new people The rooms are big and the beds are very comfortable Showers and toilets are clean The kitchen is well equipped, and the free breakfast is a very nice addition (thanks for that) A bit outside of the town centre. It's a 10-minute walk to the next supermarket and a 15-minute walk to the Interisland Ferry terminal. I didn't mind walking.

Excellent shower pressure, comfortable bed, cutlery and bowls etc were provided. Good bedroom and bathroom space.

No hand towel provided, the room was cold needed another blanket, bathroom had latches missing where the window was slightly open letting in cold air, and microwave worked briefly then cut out.

We stayed here twice this year and loved it both times. Really friendly atmosphere with large, comfy and well equipped kitchen, dining & seating areas . Free breakfast every day. Easy walk into Picton ( and we are 75 yrs and 67 yrs one of us with arthritis!) for shopping, coffee and fishing on the pier-or boat trips . Pick up and drop off , no charge, to ferry and train station. Rooms adequate size, clean and comfy.

Nothing. It is basic, comfy, clean backpackers with wonderful chances to meet and chat to all sorts of people. Excellent value for the price.

For the amount I paid it was perfect. $30 for a nice place to sleep with nice people in my dorm of 6 people. Beds were actually clean and decent.

The washing machine and dryer didn't work for me, it would've been nice. However, there are 2 laundromats nearby, so it's not a problem. Also, there wasn't much to do in terms of entertainment, unfortunately. 1 chess board and a life-sized chess board outside.
