Spacious and clean cottage close to Picton shops and wharf. Nicely decorated and very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Light breakfast in the dining room included, and delivered to our room when we needed to leave early. Parking available on site.

Would like more space for hanging clothes. No instructions for how to use TV and no movies available to stream. Would like hanging shower organiser instead of the bottles being on the floor.

This was located very conveniently near the ferry for the QCT. The decor was gorgeous, from the little outside courtyard, to the bedroom and the bathroom. Speaking of which, I enjoyed an amazing soak in the large bath with all the amenities provided. The little touches like wine on arrival and bathrobes were much appreciated. And we were glad of some helpful hints about the local wineries when we left.

The location was great if you are catching the ferry to the North Island the next day. We could easily walk to dinner. The cottage was very clean and we enjoyed the breakfast that was delivered to our room. Staff was very responsive and very helpful.

The furniture was low and not as comfortable as we would like.

Excellent location for catch the shuttles to Queen Charlotte track. Very hospitable and accommodating staff. Clean and well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Very quiet and peaceful.

The only thing really is the extremely soft mattress. We found it uncomfortable to sleep in and especially as a couple, every move is felt and it makes it impossible to have a good night rest. It was a shame as the bedroom is so beautifully decorated.

Well maintained 100 year old house oozing with charm. Beautifully made beds, comfortable lounge area where we were welcomed with delicious New Zealand wine. We had to leave before breakfast so we were kindly provided with pastries to take with us in the morning. The host was fun, energetic and call there was to know about the area and more and her staff member was lovely. I highly recommend this place.

If you are looking for more than run of the mill B & B then look no further. This beautiful home with many delightful features including art, furniture, objet d’art and glassware to admire, is a really treat. It is not glitzy and practical; it is creaky and indulgent and an absolute treat. From the warm welcome with a glass of Chardonnay to the huge, comfortable bed with quality linen, everything has been thought through to make sharing this family home easy for their guests. Breakfast was a feast on the dining table with croissants and pain-chocolat fresh from the oven. Excellent, thank you.

That we couldn’t stay longer.

Location is awesome walking distance to and from ferry station. The restaurants are also walking distance. Everything is walking distance. Such a quaint B&B place. In America, we would say this looks like a country house. It is well kept. We loved that it looked and feel so much like home and the owner is wonderful! He gave us two bottles of milk upon check in PLUS two glasses of white wine upon check in (yay!!!) There are ample breakfast supplies from cereals, to hot chocolate, coffee and tea. The breakfast was lovely. We don't eat much, but the food was plenty for two people. He was nice enough to chat with us upon check in and check out. He also let us store our luggage as we wait for the ferry's schedule.

Nothing to dislike. The owner is awesome, the place is clean and beautiful. The only thing was there was a cyclone in New Zealand at that time and our Ferry ride to Wellington was cancelled twice. We were displaced and we ended up in Marlborough. We did not go to Wellington, instead we decided to leave New Zealand before our schedule time of departure.

I went to Picton for a night to catch up with friends and do some running with my little dog . the Gables was a perfect spot within easy walking distance of the bars and restaurants and dog friendly which was perfect . the cottage was warm and cosy and well appointed. Elisabeth was lovely and everything was great! will come back.

A ten minute walk from the ferry. Although we didn’t arrive until 10.30pm we were greeted by a friendly staff member who showed us to our little cottage and offered us a glass of wine or juice. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast of fresh, warm croissants, yogurt and fresh fruit, orange juice and bread to toast. Place was basic and unpretentious but was perfect for our needs. Would stay there again. Great base from which to start our Queen Charlotte track journey.

Mattress wasn’t very comfortable. A bit too thin. Would have liked a ceiling fan as it was a warm night.

I forgot we had breakfast included, and due to leaving early in the morning we missed the main deal, but Juliearna was amazing and still prepared us a lovely meal to eat, great croissants!! Also loved having a nice clean and large bathroom:)

Hmm, unavoidable, in a beautiful old villa, but the creaky floors are hard to avoid when you are sneaking around so early!
