Our stay at Gateway Motel was excellent. It is located in the middle of town with all restaurants, bars, shops and even the ferry terminals a short walk away. Staff were very friendly and helpful - we used the barbecue, which was very clean and clean tools were provided. We also borrowed a large bowl in which to prepare rice in the microwave. The room was comfortable, and cleaned every day of our 4 day stay. Car parking needs booking and is tight, however, was very convenient. Although the room was a little tired (needed some paint on the wood surround to the shower, and some floor tiles were cracked, this did not detract from our excellent stay.

The closeness to the Harbour and train station were our main concerns since we were using public transport. Gateway was an easy walk backwards and forwards to everything. Picton is a tourism town and do having somewhere so close, at a budget rate, was great. There was a small fridge, microwave and basic meal making facilities which we appreciated. Our room was set back from the street, tucked away in a back corner and very quiet with little noise from other units. There were plenty of windows to open for ventilation on a hot night. With a bed, table and chairs and sofa there was heaps of places to relax without feeling cramped. The shower had great water pressure. A picnic table in the shared area outside our door was able to be used for dinner and breakfast without feeling like you were disturbing any other units. Unit was fresh and clean.

The room received no sun in the summer and was quite dark because if this, but totally OK for the budget price. We were able to walk down to the Harbour for a more open outlook and sunshine. The bathroom was in need of some cosmetic repairs and only had a louvre window for extraction of steam.

We had a very last minute change of plan with a toddler who had a meltdown while waiting for the water taxi out to the QCT so grabbed this as a last minute room off booking.com and arrived ten mins later. The room advertised on booking.com had been double booked however they quickly accommodated us as just needed a space for the toddler to chill out. They even let us check in early even though they had basically no notice we were coming. Super accommodating and very grateful they helped us out in a sticky situation. Great location for the water taxis and on the high street so close to the food shops. Everything we needed.

Basic but fine.

Our room was fine, but did feel it was a little inferior to others and I think that was probably because we booked thru Booking.com. For example, our room was right next to the laundry and we thought someone was running their car nearby till we realized it was washer or dryer on the other side of our wall. Plus, the door to our room was painted and flat while all others near us were paneled and natural. Still, room was clean and okay.

Great location, right in the town centre so we could walk everywhere we needed to go. Friendly staff. Room was very clean and equipped with simple but practical amenities. Excellent shower pressure!!

Room felt a bit tired and could do with some TLC in places. Bed is quite springy, would be perfect for one but as a couple you could feel every move. Being in the town centre it can be noisy at times with bar goers out late. We were grateful it rained one night so all was quiet. Walls are also a bit thin between rooms so if you’re a light sleeper take earplugs.

We are locals & needed somewhere to stay at short notice. Gateway Motel is very central, located on the High St. We booked the budget room that came without parking. The room was basic but had everything we needed & was clean.

The budget room is located next to the laundry, which is quite noisy throughout the day. It also backs onto the public town carpark, which again is quite noisy. Not a big problem, but it would have been good to understand this in advance.

Kent and Marie are great operators. Always friendly and accommodating. 3 minute stroll to the waterfront. Right in the middle of the main street for cafes and restaurants. 4 minutes walk to the supermarket. Comfy bed and good space and bathroom in this room. Microwave and toaster for doing simple food is handy. Always spotless

Summer is usually hot so could use air con. I am from the deep south so Picton is a bit warmer than I'm used to. Especially at night

This motel is right in town if you haven't got a car. The linen and bathroom etc. was extremely clean.

The exterior of the building and decor is outdated. A good paint in trendy colours and some new funky artwork, cushions would go a long way. Lighting a bit dim. Didn't like that if you used the cups and plates etc. that they charge you $50 extra for a cleaning fee. This was however displayed on a notice but this could have been easily missed.

We stayed for just one night, but it exceeded our expectations. The room was well-equipped, especially with all the kitchenware provided — a nice surprise that made our short stay even more comfortable. The location is excellent, just a few minutes’ drive to the port, which was perfect for us since we had to leave early in the morning for the ferry check-in. A very convenient and pleasant stay.

Location excellent close to harbour, shopping and eateries. Had great views of surrounding hills and houses. It was on main street didn't need car everything was in walking distance. Lots of walks around and along harbour. Boat tours, kayaks and wine tours when running.

The shower as I'm 70 I found it hard to climb up I to to shower. For anyone with climbing problems there is about 20 stairs to get to top floor. I thought it was all ground floor as the photos didn't show upper levels .
