Pleasant receptionist met us on arrival. although I understand the desk is not manned all the time. Comfortable bed with crisp, clean bed linen. Towels neatly folded at the end of the bed, with shampoo and soap. The room was also very clean and obviously repainted. Whilst small and extremely dated, the en suite was tidy and functional. Excellent shower pressure. An electric jug, drink options and mugs were provided in the room. We overlooked a parking area at the back of the hotel so it was very quiet. A small kitchen was located nearby: very humble and battered, but there was a fridge stove crockery, cutlery and glassware.

Nothing. OK, the carpet edge on the stairs is threadbare, generally very faded and tired, and the back areas need their new paint - but it is a work in progress. Excellent value.for a modest price We would stay there again.

Wow! What a surprise! Walked in the front door into an original 1950's hotel foyer. What a great place! Yes its a little tired and is in need of some work, but the building is fantastic and its great to see that they are really trying to bring it back to its glory day feel. I really appreciate that they are keeping it as close to original as possible. If you are after a 4 star + stay.... at this stage, this isnt going to be your place. Its a big rough around the edges but its a step back into the 50's and I really hope that they get this place looking amazing.

Some milk in the fridge or UHT milk would be a great addition to the room.

I slept well because I was tired. The manager took my bags up to my room. The shower was magnificent - great pressure and hot. Sufficient large towels provided. The room was clean and tidy and the window could open for fresh air. The traffic was heavy due to the main road being closed for repairs but became quiet after dark. The chair in the room - beautiful

The door handle is loose and needs tightening. It needs a locking device in the interior of the door. A higher desk / table for the coffee and a longer extension cord is needed

The hotel has an interesting history. Its owner bought it 10 years ago and is trying to renovate quite an old fashioned establishment. The result is small but immaculately clean, comfortable rooms at, the best thing, 50% of the cost of any other accomodation in the area. Price wise, this is an absolute bargain for an overnight stop.

The TV didn't work in my room and although the owner quickly organised for me to change room I later discovered that the fan cooler didn't work in my new room. I feel that while we exoect some quirks in older hotels being renovated, simple modern conveniences like the portable fan cooler and the television should be working. I would have reduced the overall rating from 8 except that the cheap cost of only $70 for the night means I would still recommend it.

All amenities in the room were great for the price. We've stayed last year too. The bed felt new and very comfortable if you like firm beds.

The communal kitchen was shocking. No pots, bowls, minimum utensils. The fridge has been off for a few months with lots of spoiled food and mold which takes more than a few weeks to grow. In-room amenities to make drinks were perfect though.

The manager at the Putaruru Hotel is an excellent host. He is very helpful, he bent over backwards to be helpful and went above and beyond in everything. The property is being renovated currently so he is very busy but he never once did not give his full attention to anything he could do to help if you asked.

Interesting art deco hotel that must have fallen through in times and they're now trying to get it back and running. The building has a lot of potential. Although currently it is in a state of repair. It is nice to see the old rooms and interior. For the price we paid, not bad. Once renovated, this hotel will have a bright future.

Definitely needs some cleanlines

The new management sure has made a great impression! The state of the place used to be disgusting and felt unsafe, but now, with new management, you can see and certainly smell a difference. I feel good that the Putaruru Hotel is in good hands moving forward 😊 we were welcomed with a smile, a small tour, and a friendly head of housekeeping who was super helpful. Keep up the great work, team. It is noticed by the public. Well done for having foresight into what this place can look like in the future with a bit of TLC.

Just that our room door didn't feel secure while locked.

The manager was friendly and helpful. The room was excellent

The two pillows were both thick and hard. Excellent for people who like that. I would recommend they place two thinner, pillows as well for people who like softer pillows The Wifi code given on the key holder was spelled wrongly, with some capital letters instead of lower case.
