It was nice and warm when we arrived, the bed was comfortable and they had a hairdryer. The person checking us in was able to seat us for a quick dinner immediately, which was excellent on a cold, wet winters night. The property is nicely situated in amongst trees and very private.

There was some confusing communication about which chalet we were in and where to park; it was dark and the signage outside wasn't great. The chalet didn't have a toaster/plates etc, which would have been great for guests arriving at night in Winter like us. Also the towel holder and rail above the toilet was quite high, and I'm short.

We were really happy with Tongariro Lodge. The staff were friendly, informative and personable. We had reserved a villa and were blown away to discover it had two bedrooms (queen beds), each with its own bathroom, a big living/dining/kitchen space, lots of closets and our own carport -- it was really a separate small house. I can see that this would be a great place for angling enthusiasts (Tongariro is very much fishing-themed)! The breakfast is ordered the day before using a form and is served in the Angler's Den, while you can reserve a table for dinner in the Lodge dining room. We dined in the dining room on our first night and were very pleased. The second night, we had made reservations in advance at the Hare and Copper, only 3 minutes' drive away, and that was exceptionally good, one of our best meals in New Zealand. Breakfast was served by a cheerful young woman who offered good touring advice (as did the check-in staff). The Lodge is in an ideal location for anglers (the Tongariro River runs through the property) and anyone else drawn to the Tongariro National Park. Despite not so clement weather, we managed 2 good walks (not hikes, we're older, but there are plenty of those available) and visits to the Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre (very much worthwhile) and the Tongariro National Trout Centre (highly recommended, particularly good for families, you can feed the trout in the outdoor stream and there's even a kids' fishing pool!). All in all, a great stay.

The cleanliness of our rooms and the bathrooms could have been better (dirt in the corners, etc.), but hey, I'm of German origin so I'm critical and have an eagle eye for things like that.

My Husband and I had a lovely stay for our 2nd wedding anniversary. The ladies who both checked us in/out were so lovely and made the experience that much better from start to finish. The food exceeded my expectations (we had both breakfast and dinner) and the grounds are absolutely beautiful and well-kept.

The ONLY thing I didn't like was the soundproofing of the chalets - I do think we were staying next to a couple who constantly went in and out through the sliding door but we could constantly hear doors slamming and muffled voices which wasn't exactly ideal.

We got the chalet furthest from the lodge; very clean; hot water in shower; good water pressure in shower; wooden walls - we can see how the wood pieces are connected with no nails; furniture and art that match where we are; soft towels; parking space near our chalet; away from road and people - SO quiet; breakfast was tasty and we got to observe a rabbit and birds out the dining room window; outside wooden porch (shared with neighboring chalet) with one small table and 2 chairs; beautiful view of the mountains; sounds of nature all around

No screen on window - can only open after we turn off lights since bugs come in when lights are on; one wall light had been broken and not repaired; mattress caused us to roll to the middle; no table inside to sit at and play games; only one inside chair

We only stayed here for one night but we wish we stayed for longer! The villa we stayed in was perfect! Very warm, tidy clean and cosy. The staff were absolutely amazing. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and It was the best service we’d had in a long time. Staff were very accommodating and really made our stay a 10/10. Food was also fantastic, very delicious and only wished we had more time to dine there another night! We will definitely be back, we can’t thank the staff enough for making our stay absolutely perfect ❤️

Spacious facility with large deck perfect for a big group, Tennis Court at the Lodge which was great, we had travelled with our own racquets.

The Deluxe Villa we stayed in did not have a Microwave which was a bit tricky as we had assumed there would be one. Most facilities do. Upon enquiry we were advised that not all villas have a microwave and if we wanted anything heated we could use their kitchen one which was unrealistic being about 200m away! We gathered it was intended so that guests would dine at their restaurant, however it was $185 pp for the Christmas lunch again not realistic for our big crowd especially with a high accommodation rate. At a reasonable rate we would have dined at the restaurant. A great facility that could do more if accommodating as felt more like a take it or leave it.

Beautiful place to stay - we were in a Chalet and it was cozy, comfortable and warm. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the colourful trees in Autumn are stunning! The river is right in front of the property and you can do the Tongariro River track straight from the lodge (although a little signposting would be helpful as we got a bit confused trying to find it). The staff were so sunny and helpful - a real pleasure to deal with. They cooked us a wonderful breakfast which we ate in front of the fireplace :) Would come back to stay here in a heartbeat!

The location was great, very close to an excellent restaurant called the Hare and Copper, the grounds were beautiful and we really enjoyed the tennis court. The location was convenient, quiet; it is a really lovely property. The heating system in the lodge was excellent, and it warmed up the place quickly on frisky mornings. The staff was very helpful with activities and only recommended great ones.

the towel rack of the master bedroom didn't work and the sliding door of the bathroom didn't slide very well. those are easy fixes.

I really like Tongariro Lodge and was sorry I could only spend one night there. As I drove down the track and spotted my lodge I knew I'd picked the right place! Walking past the lemon tree and through the front door I was greeted by a spotless lounge with two good size bedrooms with en suites, and a nice kitchen space. The bathroom was equally clean, modern, and the shower a decent size. Accommodation: perfect! I dined in the restaurant and was very impressed! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about both their restaurant and the area. I had a perfectly prepared meal and some great local beers, plus some ideas for the next day's adventure. Breakfast was equally great and made to order. I was pretty sad to leave!

The villas were so comfortable and was awesome to have a fireplace which we used. We were on holiday from Australia and loved being able to spark up the fire. We also arrived at Tongariro 3 hours before check in and we we able to check-in earlier with our family. The hosts were very accommodating.

Wish we had stayed a little longer.
