The communal area and kitchen are huge and well equipped. The staff were friendly and helpful and recommended me a lovely restaurant. The location literally couldn't be better, down a side street close to the beach and a couple of minutes walk from a metro stop. The privacy curtains on the beds were good.

The four bedded rooms are literally off the large common room/kitchen, so when people get up early/go to bed late, you can hear them in the kitchen and just outside the room. Of course, they have no idea that there are rooms there and they are disturbing people, which is a shame. Also, the toilet paper ran out and the staff aren't there all the time so there was noone to ask about this.

Beautiful Albergue located central to the town and very short walking distance to the beach. On entering the decor was simply fantastic throughout. Very relaxing and welcoming. The beds in the dorms were spacious and comfy with own electrical points for charging phones, light. They also had private curtains on the beds. Private rooms were also available. Kitchen facilities and common room available with tv. The host was a nice guy speaking excellent english. There were plenty of places to eat nearby and a local supermarket also nearby. Even Lidl and McDonalds were a stones-throw away.

My only criticism is that the room seemed just ever so slightly stuffy and needed either a window or airconditioning. I could see neither. There was a large upright floor fan on in the bedroom all night to keep the air circulating. It was about 22 degrees centrigade daytime out so in hotter temps i'd say it might prove challenging to settle there.

Wow - What a hostel this is! Lovely and friendly owners and guests. The shared space is open, social and calm. Beds were comfy and curtains allowed privacy, plenty of space for luggage. I met amazing and kind people over my few days here. Other guests were respectful within the room. Kitchen facilities are great. The decor is super cool and dog mascot loves to say hello. Decent surfing conditions for me as a beginner and beach is walking distance. They run surf safaris across different beaches. I was recommended this hostel by another traveller and after staying I know why, it’s amazing!

Loved everything about this place in particular the people. So kind and welcoming. They were amazing. The deco and art work was eclectic. The communal areas very comfortable with sofas, chairs and tables from different periods all in good condition for their age. The open plan kitchen was well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Lots of games, books, magazines as well as a TV to entertain you in the evening. The room was set out in a way that it could accommodate groups of people sitting round to chat and with areas for people who just wanted to sit and read in a quiet corner. It was so homely and everyone speaking English even though they were all different nationalities around the table. Very friendly atmosphere.

There was nothing I didn’t like about this place. I would recommend it to anyone and would love to go back again.

The location is exceptional and has comfy 4 bed dorm rooms separated by male and female usually. Two Rest rooms and two showers are available for the dorm rooms. In the backside of the hostel are private rooms with private showers. The Cleaning happens daily once or twice and is friendly. Reception is super and instructs you with touristic information and offers help, if needed. Absolute place for Surfers! Surfschool

The building is currently under construction after 11 AM. It is not loud, but the light in the dorm rooms only works by lamps. It is like 5% discomfort, which is ok for the price. Towels were given for free, BUT only if you ask. Next year, they ll gonna change the policies, due to washing costs of the towels.

Luis (the owner) is a great host, charming and a good sense of humour. Nothing is to much trouble. He is always available to offer help and deal with any issues you have. The location is amazing. Close to everything you need. I recommend the coffee shop two blocks down called The Coffee. Amazing!!!! I was actually surprised with the area. It was much nicer than I expected. The hostel itself is cosy and the group of people who were staying here were a good bunch. Polite and engaged in conversation. I would come back!

The water pressure from the sink in my room was very low. It wasn't a major issue and I didn't raise it, but probably worth fixing. The lights are activated by sensor so when in the shower the light goes off. You have to get out of the shower to reactivate the light.

These people went out of their way to help me figure out a booking done wrong by me to continue my Camino de Santiago. Everything was very clean and there were definitely enough bathrooms and showers to handle rush-hour. It is a very nice, quiet, and cozy atmosphere. Very relaxed. It was cold when I was there and they had a fire burning in this woodburning stove. The whole experience was very relaxed and wonderful.

I found the staff very friendly and helpful, met all my needs and answered my questions satisfactorily. I got to meet great people and it was a great experience visiting Matosinhos beach such that I was tempted to take up surfing. The area was safe and quiet for rest. The wifi was great too.

I liked the beds very much! So soft and always clean. Very good noise isolation. It is not a hostel, but a masterpiece of art! so cool! Perfect location - couple mins to the ocean to walk! + lidl and mcdonals. Very friendly hosts. It's like living in a big Portuguese family. We watched euro 2024 together. Chats, chess - so calm and peaceful. Best vacation ever!

A bit squeaky floors upstairs))

From beginning to end, my time at Caruma Hostel Surf has been amazing. What was supposed to be a one-week stay turned into one month of great people and incredible surfing. Luis (the owner) and Joao (his son) are extremely friendly and accommodating. Within five minutes of arriving, Luis was teaching me how to surf using a skateboard like Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid. No matter the time of day, Luis was always happy and friendly, which made the hostel's vibe great. Furthermore, because of the surf nature, the type of people staying here was great. Not once did I have a bad experience with any of the guests. Everyone was mature, friendly, and most importantly, respectful.| The hostel is about a 2-minute walk from Matosinhos beach as well. So for those looking to surf, you can't find much better than this. All in all, after staying in plenty of hostels over the past five years, I can honestly say that my experience with Caruma Hostel has been one of the best. And you can bet that it won't be my last time staying either.
