Gorgeous 200+ year chateaux feeling property in the heart of Sintra. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Lots of gorgeous sitting areas to enjoy the views on the property.

I had booked 2 rooms back in January. One room was gorgeous on the 2 nd floor. The other was in the basement and smelled musty. This was disappointing. If booking make sure you ask for an upper floor. Also very difficult property to find the first time.

We loved the charm of this hotel! It felt like we were guests at an old guest house in the 1800s. The grounds are amazing and there's a lot of cool photo opps. The free breakfast was very good and we looked forward to it each morning! We also liked that the hotel was near the train station so we could easily walk there instead of arranging a taxi. It was also easy to walk to the old town area from the hotel.

The room was a bit dark and it did not have a private patio area as described. The room also utilizes physical keys instead of key cards. The pool area was quite far from our room and it was not too clean. Also, the gate system into the hotel is a bit awkward - we ended up having to call someone to let us in which took a bit of time.

This place is a gem! Sintra is quite busy during the day and Casa Holstein is right in the center but tucked down among beautiful old grounds with lovely stonework and gardens. Our room was very private and quite large with a very comfortable bed. We had our own porch that looked over the garden and views of the palace and Moorish castle above. It felt like an oasis. We did not get a chance to try the pool but it looked very tranquil. I wasn't prepared to have to walk up and down 103 steps to get to our room from the main reception area, though! So it was quite a workout every day just getting around. (But that is all of Sintra to be honest) However - they were gorgeous stone steps with beautiful flowers growing over them in an arbor the entire way. I must have missed that in the description so be forewarned! They did help us with our bags when we checked in.

Other than the bed, most of the furnishings are quite tired and could use an update. The chairs on our porch were all broken on the seat and a railing was missing (but that didn't bother us much as it is not up high). Our toilet seat was also unattached and kept falling off. The chairs in the breakfast room are also a bit rickety. But it is an old establishment and the good outweighed the not-as-good.

Location is great. The property is pretty and very private. Would imagine it is lovely when flowers are blooming. The entire property appeared to be walled with parking inside the wall. The reception area and dining room appeared to have been updated. Breakfast was good and they were kind to have coffee early one morning for us. I seldom mention food in a hotel review but we had one of our best meals at Cajo. It is walking distance from the hotel. I highly recommend it and the staff is great. Don’t miss it. Google them, you won’t believe all the rave reviews.

It is a big facility and spread out over several buildings. I’m guessing that all the rooms are not the same as in a standard hotel. So, I can only speak for our room. It was clean but tired and needs some maintenance.

We loved the location - in close proximity to bars, shops and restaurants. The building itself and surrounding gardens were beautiful with lot's of history. The breakfast selection was small but tasty. Parking on site was free and easy. Good communication from all staff. The room was clean and spacious and the beds comfortable.

The only small thing to raise was that the air-conditioning unit was a bit temperamental, but I think it was because the batteries in the remote might have been low. With the building being old there was some moisture on the windows which is why we needed the AC unit turned on (stayed in Feb); in summer in might not be necessary.

The property is beautiful and located right in Sintra with secure parking. The room was large and very clean. The breakfast was good and the dining room very nice with white table clothes and buffet style. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Finding the entrance to the property was a challenge and the way finding signage not very good and google also had a difficult time leading us to the property. We met two other couples who also had the exact same problem we did trying to find the entrance - a good map with detailed instructions sent out by the property before the visit would have been very helpful.

Beautiful Main property , great location Lovely breakfast Very helpful and friendly staff Magdalena looked after us and was very helpful and friendly We rented the entire villa situated at the bottom of the stunning grounds (many steep steps but we knew that when booking) The villa inside is split into two apartments which was perfect as my father stayed in one apartment and myself in the other. Apartment 12 is stunning with a beautiful outside seated area with access from the bedroom door

Apartment 13 smells damp and the lounge area is very dark (has a tiny window to the back of property) and is dingey, you wouldnt want to sit in it which is very disappointing as apartment 12 is bright and beautiful but as my father was staying in Apartment 12 next door we spent any spare time relaxing in his apartment. The breakfast room was lovely but they only serve breakfast. Would be so lovely if they were able to offer coffee and cake or something small during the day , so we could sit and enjoy the beautiful grounds

The place is exquisite. It captures the spirit and taste of the old tines and shows you their beauty in many small details. From the building itself and to the drawings on the walls, the taste is superb. I liked how it smelled, what music played at the reception, the view from the Moorish Gothic styled windows. If you want to indulge yourself in the splendor of the times long gone by, do come and visit Casa Holstein. From there, you can explore the other wonders Sintra has to offer, like Pena Gardens or Monserrate.

The location was great, walkable to many restaurants, historic sites and the train station. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room size was very good and provided a lot of space to relax in. We even had a beautiful courtyard right outside of our door! The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was quite nice with a wonderful selection of fresh fruit, meats, cheeses and breads. We would definitely recommend this property!

Grounds & pool area were beautiful. Location great once you found it. Very close to walk to Sintra old town & National Palace and also many restaurants even closer near railway station. But needs better instructions to find it and allowance for guests without access to phone or wifi on arrival as gate is locked. Ie provide code before arrival.

Steps when lugging suitcases. There are several individual rooms on lower levels in the grounds requiring many steps and little paths to get to. Our room was the last. Bonus was it was private and its terrace looked over garden. Staffing was either new or distracted with other issues during our stay.
