The Ryokan is beautiful. We were a little apprehensive about sharing facilities but it is all so well organised (there little magnetic board where one picks a bathroom slot. So effective). We followed the hosts’ dinner recommendation and it was a superb but reasonable meal. There is also a little pub (Three Pints) next to the Ryokan which is welcoming and brilliant for a final stop before bed.

The man who greeted us was wonderful. He explained things clearly and in a relaxed way so it was easy to take in. The room was large and very pleasant.

I say this with a bit of apology - it is an American complaint... For me, it would be nice if the whole building were kept slightly cooler. I'm fine that the main AC is in our room, and it was very nice to be able to make it as cool as we liked. It's just a little jarring when we go out of our room to have it be really hot. It would be nice if the temperature in the halls was maybe halfway between our room temp and the outside temp. We come from a cooler climate (Seattle), so the heat here is an adjustment for us.

We stayed in a Japanese style room, which was a lovely experience. The bedding was comfortable, big room for 2 people, and a table and two chairs also in the room. Shower/toilets were shared, but there was never an issue getting access to the facilities. There's also a shared kitchen. Central location with lots of eating options nearby. Train station 6 minute walk away. Staff very friendly and speak English.

Not much! The hot water unit in the kitchen was not hot enough to make cups of tea, but this is such a minor issue and didn't negatively impact our stay.

My family (kids are 7 and 9) had a great stay here. Our room was Ume and it was very large, with 3 double beds and 2 single beds over. We also had a private shower, large sitting area with dining table, which was separated from the sleeping area. The staff person spoke English and was very welcoming. We accidentally left our suitcase on the bus, and the staff helped us recover it. Room was clean, beds and blankets were very comfortable. Ryokan Plum is on a quiet street so we slept well. The whole place was decorated well. We walked to the park and visited the castle and shrine. Walked to the train station from there. It was a bit far from Hakone, but we knew this ahead of time.

I absolutely loved this place! The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. One of the things I really appreciated was the bathroom schedule during peak hours—it made everything so much more organized. There were multiple toilets on different floors, which was very convenient. The room was huge, like a palace! The shared bathroom was also very spacious and comfortable. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need—every type of dishware you could think of! Everything was so well thought out. The location is fantastic—just 10 minutes to the ocean (bay) and 10 minutes to the train station. On top of that, they even provide free Japanese-style pajamas! The room had all the necessary toiletries, and you could even take a **face towel as a souvenir** from them. I’m absolutely thrilled with this accommodation!!! Highly recommend!

Very traditional house with lots of wooden details that I‘ve loved! The staff is very very friendly and tries to help you if you’ve got any questions or concerns. There’s a whole kitchen with free coffee and tea available for all guests as well. Everything is very clean and you can tell that it’s well looked after. 10/10 for sure, we had an amazing time in Odawara and the surrounding areas (it’s very close to the station which makes it very convenient for daytrips to Hakone or Kamakura) It’s definitely one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to so far!! Worth every penny!

Such an amazing stay, definitely our favorite of the trip. Highly recommend staying in a traditional ryokan for the experience when in Japan. Design enthusiasts will love the aesthetics of this place, and the owner greets you and checks you in (he's a New York City fashion school graduate!). They give complimentary souvenir hand towels as well as traditional robes - so cool. And a friendly house cat on premises too.

Only complaint I could think of was the communal shower head stung my skin for some reason, I think the water pressure was just really strong and the water jets were very thin. Maybe just a me thing!

Absolutely fabulous staff! We felt so so welcome, the check in process was perfect! Our room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. The location is fab too, close to the station & bus stops needed for Hakone (with free pass). We really enjoyed it here. Also, the shared toilets are really well managed.

Very warm everywhere but aircon in our room was brilliant so it was okay. Stairs also very steep (to and from the lobby/bathroom) which might be tricky for some.

Staff were very welcoming and we experienced most genuine Japanese hospitality. Our room was spacious, very tastefully decorated, and with mood-setting lights. We were given a choice of different size and colour yukata or samue, and were given lovely branded hand towels as a gift. The place has a small kitchen with tea/coffee making facilities and crockery. It is in close proximity to the station, the Castle Park and the beach.

There was not a thing we didn’t like!

We loved the location. We wanted a place that was within walking distance to the train station but was also quiet. The traditional features of the house was preserved, but the room was updated with all the modern features needed for comfort. The result was like visiting a family member with really great taste. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming.

No specific dislikes, but it would be great a great addition if there was beach items (towels & chairs) for borrow. Those items are difficult to pack/bring.
