The Vicarage is a lovely B&B. The period details in the common room and guest rooms are just gorgeous. It was raining while we were there so we weren't able to see the gardens which also looked wonderful. The location is great - a short walk to the main commercial street, the Steampunk Museum and restaurants. Our room was very large and beautifully appointed, from the soaring ceilings and old wooden floors to the gorgeous fireplace. Breakfast was delicious with a huge continental spread of toast, croissants, cereals, jams, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, etc. We felt very well cared for. But the best part of the experience was Jacqui. She is an outstanding host and was so kind and friendly. We felt so welcome there. She provided excellent recommendations from things to do in Oamaru to what to do/see on our drive to the next day. We really enjoyed our interactions with her.
The room was a bit cold (probably our fault for not being able to figure out the heater) but the bed was very comfy with lots of warm blankets.

Beautiful old house, full of history. New plumbing, cozy atmosphere, vintage linen. Great attention to detail. Good coffee. Great location. The hostess is very friendly and gives a lot of advice on cafes and attractions. A very nice place with its own character.
The breakfast is very nicely served, but it is different from the European one - it is limited to cereals with milk and yogurt with fruit. When my husband and I came for breakfast, the table was set for 4 people, but there were 2 plates of fruit and 2 bowls of yogurt. We started eating, thinking that it was for us. When Jacqui saw that we were eating from both plates, she said that one plate was for us and the other one was for another couple of guests who would be coming soon. We felt very awkward that we had misunderstood this. Jacqui was upset and quickly began to remove all the tableware from us to another table, as if we could not restrain ourselves and eat something that was not intended for us. It was unpleasant.

The Vicarage Boutique Bed and Breakfast Oamaru is an absolute GEM! We loved the house, it was a lovingly restored villa and very comfortable. The host made us feel very special and she was kind, considerate and was very helpful especially recommending places to go. Breakfast was a lovely quaint affair, and the croissants perfect! I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting somewhere special to stay in Oamaru!
Nothing, everything was great.

We haven't stayed in a B&B for some time and didn't know what to expect but the location was really central. The house is only one block from the main street of Oamaru with its famous Gold Rush heritage buildings. The Vicarage turned out to be a brilliant choice...perfect in every respect. It exudes a satisfying sense of "being at home", and a very charming home at that...and with perfect hosts. Our room was quite grand with a large bay window overlooking the garden. The sitting-breakfast room is spacious and gracious with high ceilings and comfortable furniture. A great place to read and relax in a garden setting. Breakfast choices range from ultra-healthy to uber-indulgent. We had forgotten about the subtle difference of staying at a B&B in that there is an opportunity to speak to your host, who is of course a local, and is a potential source of information. Our host was exceptionally knowledgeable about local history, must-sees, walks, restaurants, gardens, seals, and real gems like Steampunk, Robot Man and Riverstone Kitchen.
We should have stayed a week. Three days was not enough. When you plan a 3-week vacation Oamaru would be a good place to spend a week at The Vicarage including two days staying put...a weekend off in fact.

The property was spotlessly clean and Jacqui is the most lovely hostess. The room was luxurious with high ceilings and large windows. The property is close to the blue penguin colony and the Victorian area of town. Breakfast was superb. I highly recommend this property for anyone traveling to Oamaru. In fact, this is a destination for a romantic getaway even if you weren’t planning on traveling to Oamaru!

Have just finished my 2 nights here, and I found it hard to leave. Jacqui is such a kind and warm host, and the place is absolutely stunning. Jacqui went out of her way for me over the last few days, picking me up from the bus stop on arrival, making machine coffee to have with my breakfast, giving recommendations of activities to do within Oamaru, etc. The bedroom I stayed in was beautiful and spacious. The whole building has been decorated with a vintage, warm, inviting feel to it. The little ornaments and the pieces of art all tie in together so well. The breakfast I had in the morning was so well done, Jacqui puts a lot of effort into this whole place. The back garden is absolutely stunning and tranquil, and well looked after, it's a perfect place for a coffee and magazine. Jacqui gave fresh baking to the guests each day, and it was so yummy, she also gave me some to take for my bus ride home. The building and all the rooms are kept so beautiful and tidy. I absolutely loved my stay here and am already planning to return. So much love and effort has been put into this place🥰 Thank you Jacqui for making my stay so special and memorable💗💗💗
Absolutely nothing but good words to say about this place 💜🌷

The Victorian building of The Vicarage fit in perfectly with the vibe in this beautiful old town. The location was convenient to the historic center, the botanical garden and also the bus stop although the owner graciously picked us up because it was raining.
the sink in the bathroom was too tiny although the water pressure in the shower was excellent

The Vicarage is a perfect spot to stay in Oamaru. The room & bed was super comfortable and the common area is warm & inviting. The breakfast is perfect. Jacqui has fabulous ideas and ready to give you directions or places to spot little blue penguins on your way back from dinner (and absolute highlight!)

We were welcomed on arrival by Jacqui and shown to our beautiful room which overlooked the back garden. Before strolling into Oamaru for dinner we relaxed with a very nice glass of wine. Although only a 5-10 minute stroll from the Victorian quarter via the main street, it is a very quiet location. The en-suite bedroom was beautifully decorated and had everything you could want. The continental breakfast was more than sufficient and very nice. Communication with Jacqui was easy and very helpful.

A wonderful stay! The décor and appointment of the bedroom (ensuite) and private parlour are absolutely beautiful, with so many extra special touches that made our stay (home baking on arrival, a selection of drinks, chocolate fish, and the heater on in our room so it was cozy). Breakfast was a real treat. Great location, and our host Jacqui pointed us in the direction of dinner options, must-dos for our short stay, and where to see the penguins. Cannot recommend the Vicarage enough!
