The. History, with old photos on walls, ambience,location of hotel and character it had. The meals were lovely and the continental breakfasts were great….loved that butter and marmalade came on a wee plate. Not those silly little packs that chain hotel use. Very happy with that.. generous portions also. perfect ! Hotel has been refurbished in nice colours, decor is wonderful. And the place is very clean ,tidy .. Beds were great, and quiet.. slept well Every staff member were so efficient,warm and friendly. A pleasure to stay there. Will/ Would stay there again..

Nothing not to like..

Great central location in Oamaru town centre. Close to cafes, bars and the historic precinct. A lovely surprise was the sea view from the junior heritage suite we had booked. Easy parking out back. Beautiful decor in our room featuring William Morris designs in a modernised setting. Coffee machine & pods supplied. Lovely bedding.

There is a small elevator but there were still a few stairs to trudge up/down with luggage. We wanted to watch a movie after dinner but sadly the Netflix/Apple TV/Neon options that appeared on the home screen were not available - just Sky, which wasn’t showing a movie that appealed to us.

Roomy Bathroom however the painters missed the back of the bathroom door when you did the redecorating, its cracked, dirty and marked. Needs to be removed to the workshop and given a makeover by one of the handymen you have on staff.

Carpark is a bit exposed and needs to be secured. The after hours door does not close its self and lock and was ajar when we re-entered late, any strangers could have accessed all the floors ? The blank screen behind reception looks ugly and needs a big poster picture of the hotel or a lovely room shot that the arriving guests will be enjoying or even a pic of the dining room to encourage dining enquiries, that valuable space is entirely wasted and is the first thing that took my attention when I arrived. Room was very light on decent shower gel etc paper packs not very nice , perhaps wall mounted dispensers in the shower recess would be more presentable and more economical for the hotel.

I had the fortune of staying here. I stayed in a room (Standard King/Queen) with an excellent sea view. The staff members who checked me out and in were very kind and polite. I was given great service. While the bed in the room does not have an electric blanket, like most hotels these days, the bedding provided was more than ample enough. The room had great amenities - TV with remote, high speed free wifi, a hot drinks making station, two desks/tables, and more electric sockets that one knows what to do with - great to charge your personal devices. The room decor was beautiful and modern. The ensuite bathroom is quite large, and again, very modern. Toiletries are provided and are of excellent quality. The elevator in the hotel is great - especially for those with mobility issues. I also recommend taking advantage of the room service breakfast. The food was high quality, as was the tea. The lass who delivered the breakfast was very polite and humorous. You can greatly customize the breakfast and chose a time the prior night to have it delivered. The hotel is very centrally located - which makes it great for those who want to have everything in walking distance. As for the restaurant itself, the food is top quality. Definitely great having a restaurant attached to the hotel - hunger need not be thwarted by inclement weather.

It was well located for the Steam Punk Festival a short walk away from the Victorian area. The room was in the annex round the back overlooking the park park, but we could see the sea from our window which was nice. The staff were helpful and chatty. Really liked the old world feel of the front part of the building, grand staircase, and chandeliers etc. Bed was comfy, so were the pillows.

The room didn't really feel like a 'Superior Queen' to be honest, we had to request a table as we had two small chairs but no table to sit at, 1 shelf next to the bed, would have liked 2 one each side. The bathroom was on the small side the door opened into the room, the hair dryer died after 10 seconds but they did supply a replacement.

The Brydone had a lovely beachtown hotel vibe, quite retro but with spacious rooms, lovely bathrooms and walk in showers, plenty of complimentary toiletries, mini fridge, teas and coffees etc, and it was always a warm cosy respite after a chilly day by the sea watching penguins :) The staff were lovely and welcoming, and the hotel offered free wifi and a good selection of TV channels. Although we didn't go the adjoined bar and restaurant it also seemed really nice. I really liked the location of Brydone Hotel as it's near all the conveniences you might need with plenty of cafes/pubs on the doorstep, but also just a pleasant walk away from the seafront and the blue penguin colony.

The walls are very thin and floors very creaky so you can really hear people and maid carts in the halls as if they're in the same room, and next door had their TV at full blast during evenings and on one day from 7:30am which didn't help with sleep. Not the hotels fault though, just a bit of a nuisance if you want a bit more of a lay in or relaxing evening. Also door locking was a little dodgy, we struggled to get our room secured at first, but found there was just a knack to it.

Central hotel with old world charm with clean, updated rooms, some of which have been newly renovated to the Victorian style. Huge outdoor car park centrally located opposite the seaside. Excellent food available early until late at cafe and restaurant.

We love everything and try to spend a week there every year.

My room was in the historic part of the hotel and was very comfortable and warm. The bathroom was large and modern with plenty of counter space. The hotel is a lovely old historic building on the Main Street close to shops and the wonderful Victorian Precinct. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

There was nothing I didn't like. The window was quite small but there was a small glimpse of the ocean!

The architecture of the building was so historically beautiful and the little restaurant was cute and cozy. Good food too! Our first night was a room in the original hotel and was spacious and nicely appointed and the bed so soft!

they needed to move us the second night to the newer section which was much smaller and the bed was not comfortable.

Comfortable modern room, all OK but nothing to write home about. This is an attractive historic hotel, with a large extension added on much later.

After a long day, I was hoping that the restaurant and bar would be open but no luck, the place was dead. Fortunately there was a good place to eat across the road (Fat Sallys).
