Location is excellent in the small town of Egilstadir. Nearby the stunning Vok baths. It is a 2 minute walk from the (very small) town centre with restaurant/cafe type of thing as the cheapest option. It is also next to a supermarket. The accom itself has a cafe inside which unfortunately doesn't open until 10am, but the person thankfully made us some coffees around 9am. Rooms were big enough and comfortable beds and pretty good sound proofing. We didn't use the kitchen facilities but bathrooms were also good.
Earlier opening time of the cafe would have been nice. Most people get on the road early but the cafe doesn't open until 10am.

+ The common rooms are large, except for the kitchen. There are several showers and toilets. + There's a very large lounge with plenty of things to pass the time, including books, board games, chess and even colouring books for adults and children, as well as a few toys for the little ones. - There's a fully-equipped kitchen and they've added a sort of small kitchen in a corridor, but without a fridge. So there's just one fridge for all the visitors. When we arrived there were a lot of young people and so the fridge was completely full so we had to leave our groceries in the car.

This place was amazing, the family running the guest house were lovely and informative. We stayed in a lovely spacious room with a double bed and a window I was able to see the Aurora out of in late April. The kitchen and dining facilities were comfortable with large windows utilising the amazing location of the guesthouse. There was a fantastic 45min walk around volcanoes/frozen lakes with an amazing sunset. I was also able to see the aurora in late April which was impressive. The breakfast was fantastic with lots of local foods on display.
Nothing, it was perfect.

Beds were really comfy and the kitchen had sufficient facilities for cooking a basic meal. Check in and check out were really straightforward. The café/bar attached to the hostel was nice to have, especially with the happy hour and the ability to order food if you don't want to cook. Everything was really clean and the place was really easy to find. Made for a good one night stopover on our way north.
It's a hostel, you're not expecting miracles. The kitchen was a bit of an assortment of cutlery and crockery, but it was all perfectly usable.

Bathrooms and showers were very clean and exceeded expectations. The place felt very homely with ample entertainment like board games and guitar. Beds were good and comfortable, blankets were nice and warm. Grocery store is a short walk away.
May be a little short-handed in staff as there was no one around when we wanted to check in. Soundproofing in the rooms can be improved as we could hear noise in the neighbouring rooms and common area. Kitchen is quite small for the number of guests staying at the hostel.

Great hostel bar and cafe with a small soup and dessert menu. The hostel had ample bathrooms and showers and was in a great location for exploring the surrounding area! We wish we would have booked a second night on our ring road trip to see more of East Iceland! Kitchen was a little small for the capacity of the dorms, but we still didn’t have any problems making dinner or breakfast. There is an open space living room and big back porch to socialize!
The rooms are no frills and a little difficult storage wise, especially for the top bunk. The bottom bunks had a nice curtain for privacy and darkness but the top didn’t.

Bedding and mattresses were VERY comfortable! Great night's sleep. Funky, kitschy, retro look and feel to the place. There are also 4 private lavatories which is preferable to a communal arrangement. The bar had decent prices on tap beer and wine during happy hours. Staff were great too. Relatively close to grocery stores, town and airport.
Very limited 3-4 item food menu (veg only). They have bed capacity for more people than the facilities can handle comfortably. I discovered this when a large group of students checked in later that day, after I arrived. They commandeered the lounge, kitchen and showers so essentially, I became an uninvited 'guest' in their midst. Just had to plan meals, showers and hanging out around their schedule. Also, showers are individual unisex with doors, but in a communal room. No privacy at the basins and mirrors.

We had the entire room to ourselves (a group of 5) so it was spacious! The place was very neat and tidy. There were many toilet and shower cubicles and they were spacious and clean as well. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. There was space for cooking, unwinding over a drink or snack, chatting and playing card games. It gave off a homely feeling. Petrol stations and grocery store nearby!
Was alright with the music playing from the bar but for those who cannot fall asleep easily please take note that the music runs till about 12 midnight on a friday night.

One of our favourite accommodations on this trip. The beds are new and sturdy, so you don't get disturbed by your neighbours turning. The shared space is lovely with couches and board games. You can also pop-in next door for drinks at the bar. The reception staff were both friendly and helpful. There's a laundromat next door with washers and dryers.
There were not enough mugs in the kitchen.

The hostel has a cosy atmosphere, with quirky decor. There is a nice bar/cafe open to the public, and a residents lounge area with comfy sofas, big table, games, books etc. There's a garden with tables and benches out the back too. We stayed in a 10 bed dorm, and the beds were very comfortable, really thick mattresses. The staff were friendly, and incredibly helpful.
The self catering kitchen area was a bit small for the potential number of people using it.
