Check-in was very smooth, even though we arrived late it was no problem at all. The location is excellent, just a short walk to the helicopter tour, which was super convenient for us. My mom especially loved the kitchen; it’s well-equipped with everything we needed. The living room was a perfect place to relax, with movies and games available, and everything looked great. The bedrooms were also very nice and comfortable.

The carpet had a slight musty smell, but overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

I had a very pleasant stay at Haka House Franz Josef. The location is excellent, with a nearby supermarket and a beautiful lake where you can see the reflection of the mountains on the opposite side of Mount Cook. After a tiring drive over the mountains from Queenstown, this accommodation provided a perfect place to rest and rejuvenate. I especially appreciated the convenience of mobile payment options for laundry, eliminating the need for New Zealand coins. The room was clean and comfortable, and the shared kitchen was spacious and well-equipped. Although I experienced a brief power outage upon arrival, it was resolved within an hour, and my stay was otherwise smooth and trouble-free. Overall, I would recommend Haka House Franz Josef for its convenient location, comfortable facilities, and modern amenities.

Staying in a hostel, sharing a room with your adult son, could be a recipe for disaster. But the room at Haka was fabulous - clean, comfortable, quiet. The kitchen and dining facilities looked top notch, although we walked everywhere and ate in town (can recommend the Blue Ice cafe and bar). (If you're looking for free glow worms, do the walk at the south entrance to Fox Glacier rather than the one at Franz ... it's a bit naff)

Well maintained & well run. (Saw the ataff do the hardwork of cleaning the kitchen/dining, Clearing toilet bowl choke) Some guests dont clean up aft using toilet basins or kitchen area. Organised - fridge, layout of kitchen well laid out. Guests bring their bedsheet, pillowcase etc out to basket upon checkout. Individual bunk is private & has light & charging phone/powerbank with good blackout curtain & storage locker but u need to bring yr own lock. Ckaerb 1

Stayed in a private room. Worth the extra money. Had a tv in the room that you can also cast to from your phone. Kitchen had loads of cookers and sinks. So much fridge space, and food storage space. Vending machine and a coffee machine were well priced. Space to hang your laundry up inside, or outside which is handy (or can pay for the drier). Very clean

The facilities are new and my room was extremely tidy and clean. Bed comfy and fridge and kattle provided. Shower had a good pressure and great water temperature. Franz Josef is a small town and all the accomodation are pretty close to each other. Pool table in the common area and WiFi strong and stable.

Not really effecting my stay but water came up from the hallway floor during heavy showers. Like many of the hostels I've slept so far guest are really unable and unwilling to keep common areas clean so kitchen was a mess most of the time. Not Haka staff fault of course. Rooms overpriced but again, that seems the standard in NZ.

Haka House Franz Josef was a cozy and welcoming place to stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the shared kitchen was well-equipped and convenient for cooking. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect—close to the glacier and local trails. A great stopover for exploring the area.

Upgraded youth hostel in Franz Josef. Very good value for money. We were travelling as a family of 4 and the beds were very comfortable with curtains around the bunks so individuals can close themselves off from lights etc. Reasonably quiet considering the amount of people here. Towels and sheets were provided. Staff were very informative.

No mirror in the bathroom but there was a large mirror in the bedroom. Our room overlooked the bins and it must have been bin day. Windows open for fresh air but lets all the bugs in.

Friendly and super helpful staff! I had a problem with my network service, and the staff helped me a lot with that. Thank you so much. Also, the kitchen is very big. The bathroom is super clean and has a hair dryer (don’t have to request one at reception.)

I would love to stay in a room where all roommates aren’t friends or travel together. They left their stuff everywhere. (even their panties on my bed 😟)

The receptionist was very helpful. When i asked about elevator and lower bunk, She put me in a room on the main floor in a bottom bunk and close to a restroom. As a senior, I really appreciate that she was so considerate.

That you have to request a bathtowel. I don't mind paying a couple bucks extra, but by the time i went to take a shower, the reception was closed and i had NO towel.
