The location of the hotel was excellent. Out in the countryside with fantastic views but easy to reach even by bus if necessary. It was busy but not noisy so sleeping with windows open wasn’t difficult. Breakfast was really good - all freshly cooked and not buffet style like a lot of places. So good in fact that that we were surprised to see how many non-residents were arriving to eat there at 9am. It was great to see how popular it was with families and couples alike. The room was modern and old at the same time with a couple of quirky fittings but beautifully fitted out (especially the bathroom) and immaculately clean. We will definitely be staying again when next in the area.

The car park was a little tight but given its popularity not surprising and the pillows were a little too hard for my liking but these were minor issues given the bigger picture.

veggie option was good. Able to accommodate allergies. all staff were really helpful with our mixed dietary requirements. The room was well thought out and the bathroom was clean and modern, with good pressure in the shower. fridge in the room was useful

the pillows were massive but there were options available for this. The toilet and shower made a loud noise when being used, felt like it was possibly a pump? inevitably with rooms over a pub there was quite a lot of evening and early morning noise. the EV charger is registered to another address so not usable during our stay.

A lively characterful pub with comfortable, contemporary-furnished rooms and outstanding, cheerful, friendly and helpful staff. A clear favourite with walkers and welcoming to dog owners. Dinner was excellent, everything freshly cooked and nicely judged with some fantastic specials, and breakfast was great too, hearty and tasty. Ideally we should have booked a slightly bigger room but that's on us - the one we had was nicely decorated, well appointed and spotlessly clean, as well as quiet for a restful night's stay. We really enjoyed a short walk on footpaths around the village, and also visiting remarkable Renishaw Hall and gardens very near by.

For even more comfort, 100% cotton rather than cotton-poly sheets would be appreciated.

The cleanliness of the room and very friendly staff is what stood out most for us, we had 3 meals at the restaurant 1 dinner 2 breakfast, very affordable and delicious.

During our stay they were having unusually high temps so cooling off the room was a challenge in the evening from the daytime temps, there is no a/c. Parking is very limited so might have to park on the street. Neither issue would keep me from staying there again, just 2 minor things

Beautifully renovated, the rooms were exceptionally clean with everything you could need. Very comfy bed, lovely charm and characterful rooms. Fresh milk in the fridge for morning coffee. The staff were lovely and responsive online when i contacted then about our check in time. The pub itself is lovely, we didn't eat but the restaurant was busy and lively at 9pm which was nice to see and the food smelt good. Lovely Atmosphere all round.

Although there was a fan in the room, i would have liked to be able to open the windows.

Room very nice and well equipped. Lots of plug sockets Loved real milk in the fridge. Service good (but you have to compete with people at the bar)and menu in restaurant pretty fair. Good cocktails!

Room was very warm. Even the fan didn't cool it down. Looked like the windows were locked shut, but turns out there was a key to loosen the bolt in the frame.Hadn't been told about it and discovered it by accident. That helped but had both found it hard to sleep before that.

Room was uniquely decorated, not corporate at all, some really nice touches. Bathroom lovely size, we have lots of channel choices on the TV, including you tube Coffee machine really good and plentiful supply of tea/coffee and we were also offered extra milk. Fridge was a lovely addition too

We could hear a lot of doors opening and closing so quite noisy but this stopped later in the evening. You were overlooked in the rooms through all windows, including the bathroom so had to keep the blinds closed

The atmosphere was great, with fantastic staff who were in turn very well organised. The food in the Stag restaurant was excellent with plenty of choice, I would definitely recommend this property for a stay.

The room we had was the Classic double, it was quite small but the en-suite was a good size our only complaint was it was so hot. They had window locks but couldn’t find the key to open them, we should have asked except by the morning the room had cooled down and wasn’t an issue. That said everything you need was in the room, even a small fridge.

It was very nice to be waited on, however they where very quick to ask you which items you would like. A little too quick, as they had a lot of staff waiting on staff, waiting to attend the tables. I thought that was lovely, we had nice quality items, However the bacon was very dry due to storing it for long? As it was so quite in the dining room, surely it should be as fresh as possible to your table? I still maintain the high quality of food items matched the 1st rate delivery and service given.

Nothing! what not to like as 10/10 for = Service , staff , Hosting skills, Accommodation, Bedding, room service, The list just goes on. Enough to say we LOVED it and will be back.

Very welcoming and friendly staff. Excellent service. Spotlessly clean throughout and very tastefully decorated rooms. Good choice of foods, drinks and cocktails.

Our only two negatives were that there is no public lounge area which if you had a smaller room with no sitting area meant you had to sit in the pub where most people are at tables eating. Secondly, our room had a very small sink with a glass shelf above it which made it really hard to clean teeth, shave or wash without hitting your head on the shelf or spilling water everywhere. Book a larger room if possible. That said we managed and would still recommend a stay here.
