Very conveniently situated close to the town, shops and venue for the Chesterfield Studios that I was going to. Hotel rooms were spacious, good facilities and lovely bathroom. Food from the Spoons below was good pub grub. Staff on reception were helpful.

Shame that the hotel reception staff were rarely there. The shutters were down a lot of the time. The lift was out of action, and 3 flights of stairs , 22 steps in total wasn't great when you have a dodgy knee. I had an issue with the bed moving whenever you sat on it. No brakes or way of stopping it going sidewards.

Located centre of Chesterfield, close to shops, restaurants and entertainment. Hotel was very clean, stairs, corridors and the rooms. Nice lively pub downstairs. Food was lovely, service when ordering on the app was quick. Prices very good. Room was comfy, nice shower. Staff in the hotel and pub were really helpful and friendly. Considering we are in the town and lively pub there was no noise at all once we were in hotel room.

Only has 7 car park spaces, need to reserve £10 a night. We parked in a multi storey car park 5 mins walk £8.40 for 24 hours. Window in the room was high up so although good light I could not see out of it

Not a lot of wardrobe space - we lived partly out of our suitcases. Noise levels. The pub opposite played loud music into the night at weekends. TIP No 1 take ear plugs. On two nights the people in the adjoining room watched tv. all night, TIP No 2 Do not accept an adjoining room Our room was on the top floor and accessed only by a steep flight of stairs. TIP No 3 Insist on a room at reception level.

Great value for money, a fairly big room, quiet and very soundproof considering the pub downstairs on a weekend. Easy and nice access to the pub downstairs, the staff was fantastic and helped with all of our requests. The room was clean and we had all that we needed (kettle, hot chocolate, water).

The bed was sadly not comfortable, it was on wheels and would move at the slightest touch. We were supplied with one pillow per person on the bed + two extra ones, however these other ones were dirty and with holes on the fabric, so they could not be comfortably used either. The parking situation was odd, with it being possible to park in the hotel spaces on one day and not on the next- we would have preferred to be able to pre-book for this (maybe there was a way to and we just did not know). It also would have been nice to have some facial tissue in the room.

Great location in town centre with limited onsite parking . Wonderfully appointed room , comfy beds and arm chairs , spacious with modern bathroom /shower plus kettle , bottled water and refreshments , ironing board , iron and hairdryer . Even had air co as well as central heating .Fantastic value for money . We were on top floor which was fine but no lift to that floor . Breakfast was not included but Weatherspoons offer amazing selection of excellent value breakfasts most under £5.00 and unlimited teas and coffees once a £1.50 cup is purchased . Couldn’t fault it .

when booking i was hoping to get a first floor room but sadly there was none left it was a bit difficult to get up to floor 2 as I've got a walking stick and getting up and down stairs is a big problem for me as my knees are not the best in the world any more on the Saturday night coming back to the hotel i used the lift to get to the first floor that was great then had to tackle the stairs to floor 2 there was a lady watching me go up them and my wife was waiting at the top she followed us up i did ask her how does getting breakfast in the morning and she explained it well then she said i seen you struggling up the stairs i will see if there's a lower floor room for you. got back in our room 2 mins later she rang the room and said in the morning go to room 105 which was fantastic she must of been head house staff for the rooms i did not ask her name sorry as would of put it here but tell her thank you very much. the room was a copy of the 1 we swapped . i did a review 2 years ago about the shower as the glass panel was not very long for stopping the water, and soon as you start showering it gos all over the floor like a river lol also as I'm tall i could see on the top rim of the lamp shade there was a lot of dust collecting on the top may be coming from the aircon as it blows on to it but everything else was fantastic the staff were fantastic food was great we will be going back to this hotel the perfect spot to stay looking forward to visiting you again thank you.

We LOVE this hotel!!! ( and pub below) I think this might have been our 6th stay at the Portland in Chesterfield. The location is amazing. Literally at the edge of town. Breakfast starts at 7am - which is great for us early risers who like to eat before adventuring. The prices in the pub are cheaper than anywhere else we’ve dined in England and the staff are attentive and amazing. Normally service gets compromised when the prices drop.. but at this Weatherspoons it’s not the case. They provide the best service!! We spent 5 nights then came back for 1 more night. Our room 108 had an amazing long bath in a big bathroom with an oversized frosted window. Our 2nd room 103 had a king sized bed but no bath. Both rooms had lovely rain showers with hot water and good pressure.

Unfortunately Chesterfield charges for parking in 95% of the areas in town these days.. which has resulted in the open air market not being as amazing as it once was. So you can pay £10 per night to park at the Portland and have your vehicle be on site or have your car parked in one of the lots in town ( a short walk away) instead.

The staff were very pleasant and polite and looked after us well. Our room was well equipped and had everything we needed..including complimentary bottles of water.

We were in a room located close to the hotels large and noisy extractor fan which was on until late into the evening,..which was a bit of a shock on our first night..however we were offered a change of room plus a complimentary free breafast on our first morning...which was a nice gesture.and much appreciated.

I arrived before check in time, staff were happy to check if my room was ready (which it was) and left me check in 1 hour early, which was greatly appreciated after a long travel. Room was small but perfectly clean, iron and hairdryer provided was a bonus. Bathroom very modern and clean too. Staff very friendly and in a good central location of chesterfield town.

The only downside was there was no lift to the upper area of the hotel, which I struggled to lift my case up and down.

Clean and comfortable, good quality towels and appliances, decorated to a high standard, complementary tray beverages snacks excellent! Friendly staff Michelle checked me in, very polite, efficient, a credit to her employer. A+

Breakfast was disappointing 😞 stone cold except the fried egg. I had to request the beverages milk be changed as was off. This side of the service needs to be redressed as in ensure food is kept hot if pre cooking before service ie bacon beans hash browns. Sausage, ect. Morning staff lethargic, not customer focused. Or service oriented.
