The staff were very friendly and the food and atmosphere in the pub was lovely.

No breakfast! You can’t just be a ‘B’ - that’s ridiculous - add the other ‘B’. Come on, with clearly a great reputation for excellent food surely you could provide some sort of breakfast?! I know it would be the best for miles around with people stampeding to stay the night, just for the breakfast. It would turn a 3 star into a 5 star experience. Not having a lovely breakfast to look forward to really took the edge off our experience.

Staff were really friendly, the food was superb, the chef came out to ask us if we enjoyed our food which was lovely, very dog friendly without being penalised in the price, room smelled lovely and clean as you opened the door, room individually furnished - felt much nicer than a generic hotel chain, good shower, area is nice and quiet - no banging doors all night, scenic area to take the dog for a walk, large carpark, easy check in and out, it was a very hot weekend and they'd made every effort to try and keep the room cool for our arrival.

There was no fan in the room - I think this would be a welcome addition for a lot of people. (And probably a heater in the winter months) No breakfast option. These are both very minor things for me though.

Staff were really really lovely and made us feel really welcome. The pub itself had a great atmosphere and super food. The room itself (the family room) was warm and comfortable, and the en suite bathroom, TV, kettle and fridge suited our needs perfectly. There wasn't a breakfast option, but that didn't affect us. Our only small suggestion would be some better pillows and maybe add some mattress toppers (maybe we are just used to softer beds!) but the value for money, and the warm welcome meant that this is a super place to stay and we will be back for sure!

See above...minor point about pillows and firmness of mattress, but nothing a mattress topper and some different pillows couldn't sort. The rest was a super stay.

Location was great for what we needed. The room was a great size, particularly with a kid and dog in tow. The pub itself is a lively locals pub with great food and a nice atmosphere. Gabbi checked in with us each day to make sure that the room was alright, and if there was anything else that we needed.

The only thing that could make this better would be to serve breakfast. There are local businesses a short drive away to get breakfast at, but even a continental buffet would have been ideal. There is tea and coffee in the room though so we were able to make a drink on a morning before going out.

This place has got to be the best doggy friendly pub for an overnight stay we have ever used. The owners and staff are lovely people very welcoming and friendly to us and our labradoodle. Our room was lovely and clean and cosy. We were staying as visiting in the area. The bar had a fab roaring fire and had a lovely atmosphere. We sat in the library room for our meal and the food and service was top notch. We stayed on a Wednesday and they have a quiz on which we really enjoyed the place was packed! Brilliant evening. Thank you all for making our stay so lovely. We will be back hopefully soon. Don't hesitate to book here with your pooch it's brilliant 😀

V comfortable room with great facilities. Loved having Netflix available, plus the ability to stream from our own tech made watching things easier. We ate in the restaurant which was quiet early on. Food was amazing, lamb shank which melted off the bone. Both starters (soups of the day and garlic mushrooms) were amongst the best we've ever had. There was a comedy night on which we were worried would disturb our evening but this wasn't the case and noise levels died down at a reasonable time. We would definitely stay here again.

Not a negative, but it would be useful if breakfast was an option. We were only staying for one night, so had breakfast at Matlock Garden Centre around 30 mins away - this was lovely, but in site breakfast would have been easier.

Well we stayed early in October for one night and loved it, the staff were very welcoming, and the food looked great, as we was out drinking that night we didn't eat,.we decided to book again but for two nights later in October, and again it was absolutely lovely, warm welcome, lovely clean rooms, clean throughout, and we ate this time, I was looking forward to trying there steak and trust me when I say, it's the best steak for miles.. if your looking for top quality and a really reasonable price then the shoulder is a must try. We will definitely be staying again.

Great location to access out of town yet close enough to find shopping, petrol etc. 10min away. Having their own free parking on site is a huge plus! Great charm and history of the building paired with the pub downstairs. Friendly staff, great welcoming first stay on our trip!

Facilities are limited due to the building's age, with low shower and toilet pressure needing pull-chord electricity to run. The rooms were a decent size for 2 but wouldn't say 'tastefully' decorated. The stairs up to the rooms are tricky to navigate any suitcases with but the host kindly offered to help still.

Love the location and ease of free parking. The staff (the manager in particular) was extremely polite, professional, and helpful. We booked a table for dinner and we all ordered something different with each meal as tasty as the next - we really enjoyed our dinner which arrived in good time, hot and amazing quality presentation. The atmosphere was pleasant and we could have our dog with us in the pub for dinner. Enjoyed a stroll around the area after dinner. The room is lovely. Spacious and comfortable for my husband, teenage daughter and myself. If we are in the area again we will definitely come back even if it's just for a meal. Thank You for such a pleasant stay.

The bed was a little hard but that's down to personal preference, but for me ai just prefer a softer mattress

Even though our room was small it was very nicely decorated and the view from our bed was amazing. We were overlooking fields and saw some horses. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We were even taken to our room and asked if we needed help with our luggage - can't remember the last time that happened. the staff were very friendly.

We could hear a little bit of music but nothing major really - the rooms are above a pub/restaurant.
