Beautiful grounds, very peaceful Excellent staff, very friendly, so customer focused; they couldn't do enough to help, they went the extra mile and genuinely cared about the quality of your stay Exceptional choice for breakfast; eggs benedict spot on as was the full english Main meals very good, and not just the standard boring menus you see everywhere else Hotel was so good that I extended my visit by a day Room facilities excellent - for once enough milk to have more than 2 hot drinks - why can't other hotels do this it's simple I gave them a 10 and I'm not easy to please, the last place I reviewed got a 3 Would definitely stay again and recommend to others

Good location for us wedding at Moddershall Oakes and Trentham parkrun. Comfortable bed and quite at night

The only negative was breakfast, while the food which we had was excellent, we wanted oatcakes (well we were in Staffordshire) but the delivery hadn’t arrived, but instead of telling us as we sat down the waitress waited till we tried to order them. I also had to ask if we could order as time was limited for us, I found them chatting in the room next door, we had waited for over 10minutes. I then asked for some sugar for my coffee…. This never arrived.

The room was a beautiful combination of old world and period features but with all mod cons. I was expecting the decor to be tired from reading previous reviews but this was not the case at all, the bed linen, towels and toiletries were of a high standard and contributed to the lux feel.

a couple across the breakfast room was SO rude, why do other customers spoil the ambience for us all? He was complaining about the breakfast being cold - no need to speak so loudly at the waitress though is there? We found the breakfast beautiful and certainly hot enough. There was a shortage of butter but the staff soon amended it when it was bought to their attention in a polite quiet request.

The upper house hotel is absolutely fabulous,. Stayed for a wedding and before we checked in we were welcomed by several members of staff .

We were attending a friend's wedding so I had booked through a well known site and selected to pay on arrival. All off the hotel was booked full by the wedding guests. I spoke to my friend a week before and he informed me that there was a discount for people attending the wedding.so I contacted the hotel enquiring about the discount and the reply was no discount as I had booked through a website so I actually paid £65 more than anyone else staying there. Not very helpful. The staff are really friendly even though they never stop and are very busy during a large wedding. The food was fantastic and would definitely stay there again but I suggest that you book directly with the hotel

The setting was beautiful and peaceful. The room was very spacious (I said it was a celebration for our anniversary and a rare child free break, and they upgraded us!), clean and classic, with a very clean, large and modern bathroom with a good sized bath with jets (we didn't try them though). There were lovely touches like modern and classic Wedgwood crockery (throughout the hotel) and lovely large, thick, fluffy towels in the bathroom. We ate in the restaurant and the food was tasty and the wine was to our taste. The staff were very friendly and helpful and it was a really lovely place to stay, in a nice setting of the village, and a very good deal on the price!

The only mildly negative point is that the food didn't blow our socks off for the price. It was tasty and well presented, but was more of a homely feel to the food and restaurant.

The Upper House is a lovely old property. Our bedroom was modest but very comfortable. Having supper in the dining room was an unhurried, relaxed experience and the food was excellent. We would have loved to spend more time there as the grounds were also pretty but we didn’t have enough time to really explore them properly.

The room was quite warm at night and the size of the windows made it impossible to cool down. This is not usually a problem in the UK so providing you stay there in the other 11 months of the year you are unlikely to experience what we did.

Fabulous building. In the main areas of the hotel it is decorated really well Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We have stayed at this hotel before and stayed in the Maple Suite so we knew what to expect. Room is spacious and the bed is very comfortable.

There is no coffee machine in the suite. No conditioner in the shower and no soap bar in the bathroom. Bought my own soap in the end. There were two containers in the bathroom but there were no labels on either of them so didn't know what they contained. Also, in the little area off the main bedroom there was a broken pane of glass in the window.

Beautiful setting and gardens. Impressive historical house and features. Excellent food, sandwiches, dinner and breakfast. Room was lovely, in part of main house, newly decorated . Was well kitted out- fan much appreciated. Enjoyed our two night stay, were warned of events and noise during our stay so not worried by some noise during evening. Staff were very approachable and nothing was too much trouble for them.Would recommend for a tranquil get away.

Beautiful location, lovely house, our room was lovely and had a shared balcony, the breakfast was table service and cooked to order and was perfect! (No half cooked bacon kept warm under heat lamps here!) The dinner menu looked exceptional and I wish we could have stayed another night to try that! Room was clean, there was plenty of tea & coffee provision, The staff were very pleasant and helpful

Our only gripe was the mattress in our room was really firm. Personal choice really. I did ask at reception whether the other rooms/suites had softer mattresses and she advised me they were upgrading all rooms and next time we booked to mention it so we could be allocated a suite with a softer mattress.... And we will be booking again when the weather is better!

A very beautiful hotel in gorgeous grounds, very helpful friendly staff, excellent shower, good hospitality tray in the room. Good coffee at breakfast in a cafetiere.

No bike racks although we were allowed to put our bikes in a function room - but you do not asl if people arrive by bike and there are no racks for those simply coming to eat or drink. The breakfast was very poor compared to many hotels of similar type - awful child like cereals and no muesli, sliced bread which is poor quality and tasteless, packet jam and butter.
