Char's Landing feels like a little home-away from home. The kitchen and dorm room were equipped with everything you could need. There's also a washer, dryer and powder available if you need to get any of that done while you're there. It's a short walk to town and Char's happy to provide recommendations on things to see and do locally depending on your means of transport. Everything was kept beautifully clean. You would be hard-pressed fo find a more affordable option in such a good part of town, I wish I'd been able to stay for one of the events that Char hosts!

Nothing to fault

We arrived at Char's Landing Hostel slightly later than we'd intended but that was perfectly alright because we had instructions to get in. Wifi code even written on the outside of the door in case we had no data! Hostel is beautifully presented - looks like someone's home. Lovely conversation with other guests inside the hostel. Good kitchen facilities. Washer/dryer available. Bunk beds in private room but that was fine, and they were comfortable. Quiet area. Would I recommend? Yes. Would we stay again? Definitely!

I got an upgrade (though I paid more for it, as expected), which I'm glad I did. I was very satisfied with the upgrade to a private room which had a private bathroom. The overall facilities in this hostel were very good. There was a well-stocked kitchen with a good range of plates, bowls, etc. as well as good fridge and stove, plus electric kettle, microwave and toaster. The dining area was not large but comfortable as was the general seating area. There was a great pub area upstairs where local musicians often perform.

Security could be an issue here due to the local homeless population. The lock system was a little confusing, but there's no doubt having these locks is necessary. When you check in, make sure to ask about how they work.

I had a truly lovely experience staying here. Char is a warm and thoughtful host who made me feel completely at home. The space was cozy, clean, and peaceful — perfect for a restful stop during my travels. One of the highlights was getting to see the stunning upstairs hall; it's full of character and history. I really appreciated the personal touches and genuine hospitality. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable and memorable stay!

We spent two nights at this small hostel. We had the whole common area for ourselves as it was a weekday during low season. The host is very friendly and quick to check with us if everything was fine. The room was comfortable and everything was clean. The wifi works really well and it has a cozy reading/tv room. The location was good to move around with the car. Easy, large and free parking facilities on-site. Kitchen utensils were enough and in good working condition.

I have been Hank Snowing around this grand country for more than 30 years and have stayed in hostels, hotels, motels, b&bs, campsites and every type of lodging out there. Places like this are getting harder to come by. I would have never thought Port Alberni would have such great accommodations on a budget but this is one of the dopest places I've ever stayed. Met some cool people and Char is one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Love it 108 stars

Absolutely nothing

Char's landing hostel is the best place to stay in Port Alberni !! Room is very clean and cozy !! The owner Char is a very friendly and kind ! She helped me a lot when I was in trouble. Thanks to her, I could make a wonderful memories in Port Alberni. While I was staying, there was the music concert in the 2nd floor hall. I enjoyed it with local people. Easy to access the main street !! High-speed wifi !! Big space shower/bath rooms !! Everything is perfect !!

There is plenty of room for everyone. Family of 5, all boys.... this was perfect. Good location, just up the hill from the Keys. Cute little shops like Blue Fish Gallery and the Donut Shop. Char, the owner, is very lovely and would definitely recommend Char's Landing.

Got warm in the suite in the morning, only fans to circulate the air.

I traveled alone and really just needed to sleep before the morning departure by boat to Bamfield, so for the first time in my life, I stayed in a dormitory. For 43 dollars, it more than served its purpose. But I chose this hostel mainly because it is also a cultural facility that was converted from a church. Its location near the harbor and its place in the local Art District make this place also unique. But its biggest charm is added by the owners who decided that the house they live in will also be a place of meeting and culture. I attended one concert and it was a really pleasant experience. Not only because of the music but also from meeting the owners, really kind and inspirative people. Otherwise, the hostel is well equipped, clean, and comfortable. Parking right in front of the building. I liked Port Alberni, so I will return here with my family. We will definitely be happy to stay at Chars Landing.

Such a great find! Perfect balance of location, price, and amenities everything just clicks. The hostel is cozy and convenient, making it super easy to explore the area. We found it perfect for an overnight stop between Tofino and Nanaimo. Best of all, the host is warm and welcoming, instantly making you feel at home.
