We truly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We initially booked the upstairs room with a loft. We were planning to put kids on the loft. After we arrived, we realized that the loft has no build in stairs(it was not shown in the any of the pictures), it is a pull out very steep stairs, that is no suitable for anyone under age of 12 to go up and down. There was no AC on the loft either. Be aware. We talked to the owner and changed to the downstairs room. We had to put 3 kids on the couch, but it was a lovely stay. The view was incredible. We watched the sunset from the deck. You can also walk a short distance to the beach. Highly recommended the first floor unit if you are traveling with kids. Having a car is recommended for this area.

We did not like the loft at all.

The location is beautiful and the apartment is well equipped with the best and quality amenities.

Our host was quite welcoming and friendly. He even picked us up at the train station in Otaru when we arrived. Breakfast was fantastic. There were two radiators in our room to ensure that the room was warm. The beds were comfortable and the scenery beautiful. You can reach Otaru by bus. there is a stop nearby. We can recommend this place.

Wow. We were blown away by our stay at Otaru Geihinkan. This charming guesthouse is located literally steps from the ocean. Not only could we open our balcony door directly to the sound and view of the ocean waves, this room was the largest we’ve stayed at in Japan, equipped with the newest appliances and a full kitchen. It was perfectly clean and very modern. The heated floors next to the bed were a pleasant surprise in winter, and the loft was also a cute feature. I’d imagine the tatami beds in the loft would be a hit with kids- we actually wanted to use them ourselves, but forgot to tell the manager when we arrived late so they weren’t set up and we didn’t know if we could use them. They also have a restaurant on the first floor where each table has an ocean view. If we ever get the chance, we would come back in a heartbeat! I’ve never stayed at a more uniquely beautiful airbnb, and for such a reasonable price!

The distance from Otaru town was 15 minutes drive away. This property is literally located at the coastal line, a fascinating view from the room balcony and dining area. Breakfast was included, and it was surprisingly appetising as if served at a fine dining restaurant. The property operated since 2023, so everything is in a very good state. Everyone entering the place will need to take off their shoes at the reception, only allowed in their house slippers. There is individual r.emote to control the airon, heater (even for the bed). I liked the high ceiling in the room, that has a loft area to accommodate 2 more persons if needed. The service staff was wonderful and helpful extending help to us with our luggage. It was so relaxing watching the waves and seagulls busy at the shore.

There is no elevator in the property, so you may want to request for lower floor if you don't want to carry them upstairs or best is travell light.

the apartment was great, quiet, big, kitchen, comfortable beds.the view from the apartment was great, quiet , the staff was very helpful. and pleasant.

some said you could hear the sea. if you open the windows you just hear the hum of the air conditioners. also the breakfast was average to poor. that includes the western and Japanese ones. for the money paid , one would expect perhaps a coffee machine with coffee available 24/7, some basic kitchen supplies. for very little expense they could improve the experience.

We had an excellent stay at Otaru Geihinkan with our family. The room is very spacious and the staff is very helpful. The ocean facing view is breath-taking and each room has its own balcony where you can watch sun-raise and sunset with coffee! The hotel is about 15 mins drive from Otaru canal, so easy if you are looking for places to eat. Several rooms (we came with five other families) have a full kitchen setup where you can buy food from nearby supermarket and cook there, something that we wish we know earlier! Overall, we will certainly come back next time if we are visiting Otaru again!

The decoration is simple and comfortable, the room is clean and tidy, and the sunset is very beautiful. Friends who like the sea must go and experience it. Although the staff are Japanese, it is quite convenient to know some Japanese.

It would be better to have breakfast

My friend and I booked a room each for 4 nights at this establishment. We had no real expectations, we just knew it was on the beach North of Oturo Hokkaido 45 minutes from Sapporo. The staff were incredibly accommodating, the rooms were immaculate and well appointed. We ate breakfast, had an Hokkaido barbecue, and a Michelin standard dinner. I could not recommend this hotel highly enough. Extremely good value for the level of service and cuisine, absolutely fabulous!

It would have been better if we’d stayed longer!

The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff are super friendly. Our room has a sea view balcony and a loft bed, which is the perfect size for a family of three. It's right next to the quite beautiful beach and about 20-minute drive to downtown Otaru (but I believe you would need a car to get here). The Japanese-French fusion breakfast is really delicious and the chef prepares each serve when you are at the table. Highly recommend for a family trip.
