Location is nice on beach,can walk to pier and restraunts.has frig and stove and there are some kitchen supplies..large enuff room for a small family and a few days at beach.

Our back door would not work with key manager said he would fix it,he did not.there was a major plumbing problem in whole place again manager did not keep us informed we had to keep calling to find out when fixed..needs some paint and updating..and fill the soap dispensers if you are going to have them.

Location, location, location! The rooms on the first floor have a front and backdoor. The backdoor is practically on the beach. So the kids could play in the sand while parents were inside getting things ready. The beach and water is just a stone’s throw away. There are showers to shower off as you come back from the beach. The property has two great pools- indoor and outdoor. This was really nice when the kids were tired of the beach. Many of the rooms have a kitchen. Our family had 5 rooms and some of the kitchens had been redone. The remodel is great. So the motel is working on updating! The views out to the beach from the back balcony on the third floors were great. And the balconies on the second and third floors were nice. Very comfortable just sitting and reading. The beach itself was nice. It wasn’t too crowded. The waves were just the right size for our 6-9 year olds to body surf.

It was a little challenging to find staff….sometimes. It is old, but it is nice to see that they are working on updating the place.

We had a nice pretty updated room with a great view on level two, but especially on level three. The staff at the front desk and in the kiosk were extremely nice! That was very much appreciated!

Not much, but maybe the cleaning staff not coming to ask us what we need or not providing us with a “do not disturb” sign to put on the handle would have been ideal, but at the same time it’s nice the the cleaning staff were extremely nice when you walked by them with a smile when I saw them and they weren’t constantly intrusive with coming to my door when I have had a “do not disturb” on the door and they proceeded to come once or twice early in the morning anyway, like I’ve experienced in some motels and hotels. It’s not really a bad thing, it just might be helpful to have a “do not disturb” sign to put on the handle and staff can come to ask us if need anything in case we don’t see them outside the room as they clean other rooms.

I loved the location. It was right at the beach, just steps away. It was great for children and dogs. The ground level rooms give you access to a sandy area in front of the back door for dogs or kids to play in, shaded by the building when it gets too hot at the beach. The pool was a nice addition as well. There were a couple of outdoor showers available to get the sand off before getting back into the building.

The back door doesnt lock from the outside so ypu had to lock it and go through the front and around, unless you wanted to keep it open and chance it. It was not a huge deal because we were around if we needed to leave it unlocked or went through the front.

Being right on the beach. We were able to sit on the beachside or the inner coastal side. This gave both privacy and the ability to mingle with the other guests. The staff were attentive and helpful. You can see the renovations they are accomplishing. The bathroom was newly renovated, bed was comfortable, nice counter for snacks and things by the microwave. would recommend this hotel and will keep it in mind for the future.

The fan in the bathroom was too loud and it should have been on a separate switch. This could be easily remedied. I didn't realize there was no elevator. It was hard to climb the three flights with our things.

The Blue Heron is a classic motel that has been recently remodeled and is under new management. We've been going there for years and really like the manager and staff. They go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. The location is fantastic and the view from the 3rd floor is as good as you can get at Nags Head. The three pools are great on rough surf days.

It is a 50 year old beach motel pounded by the elements on a regular basis. Obviously it isn't crisp and new, but that is part of its charm. The staff go out of their way to make it pleasant.

The motel is in a convenient location for the places we wanted to go/see during our stay. The kitchenette was a selling point when we were looking for a place to reserve. Bed was comfy. The larger refrigerator was a nice plus. Room had.nee floors, paint, bathroom was updated, and the walls were recently painted.. Outlets by bed have built-in USB ports.

The bathroom was small but adequate, and shower pressure was a little lacking. View from the balcony was blocked by dunes, but this is not a reflection on the motel. This is just a fact of nature. The exterior stairs could use some work, and the noise from the neighboring guests was a little much at times. The outside pool was either not opened up for the season or was in a state of disrepair.

The property is right on the ocean. You have your own private beach. The prices are reasonable & the rooms are clean. We love the two outdoor pools. There is also a great indoor pool with a large hot tub, that is very hot. We were on the second floor room 11 which does still afford a view of the ocean. All of the third floor rooms have great oceanfront views. You can hear the ocean when you open your door from every floor. Book a room at the blue Heron, pack your bags head on down to the Outer Banks and tell them Hula Hooper Suzie sent you.

The dunes are so high now that you can really only see the ocean from the third floor. There are no elevators at this three-story property. This is certainly not the fault of the motel owners lol

The outside of the motel is in need of repair but my room was well maintained, clean, well equipped with full size stove and refrigerator, microwave, dishes and utensils. Of course the best part of the motel is the view of the ocean from the third floor where my room was (the view from the ground and second floors is obstructed by high sand berms) and ease to walking to the beach. And the sun rise is awesome.

Stairs need looking after and the balcony has bird poop on it so be careful where you walk and lean. And it would be nice to shut the outside lights off when the outside pool is closed so you can see the stars at night over the ocean.

The view at this place is exceptional. The back balcony(which is private btw)overlooks the ocean & you can hear the waves from there. It's a bare bones, older hotel w/lots of charm but very little bells & whistles. The room was clean, good water pressure, very spacious w/a nice TV. The kitchen was older but usable. Appliances that I used worked well. The bathroom was clean.. For the price it was decent. The view from the balcony made it worthwhile to me. You can walk to the beach. They have 2 pools & an outdoor shower(not sure if the shower worked as it was March when I was there. Check in was easy & the guy in the office was pleasant. I didn't see much staff out & about but again it was the off-season.

There was no dish soap to wash your dishes anywhere that I could find. The bathroom vent fan was really loud, but it certainly did its job. The body wash dispenser was by the sink instead of closer to the shower or in the shower. No toiletries to use (shampoo etc). No elevators for this 3-story hotel so if u can't navigate steps, you need a 1st fl room for sure. They were renovating those it looked like. The indoor pool & hot tub were closed..ugh B/c it's an older hotel closer to the water, there was a lingering mildew smell. It was chilly when I was there so I could not leave the doors open to try to air it out. They should put some kind of cover over their heat/AC unit. They aren't very attractive, but they did work well.
