Location excellent and grounds are beautiful and carefully tended. Staff great. Bed comfy. Loved friendliness of staff & other guests. Suite had plenty of space.

Only 4 nit picky things could use improvement : Noise from people talking in parking lot discernible late at night despite my window being closed. I had to turn on white noise on my phone. The coffee set up seemed good but the french press was weird. It was stainless carafe but had a plastic basket inside instead of a stainless press like all the other french presses. boiling water on plastic is toxic. Wished there was a mini fridge so I could have real half n half instead of fake shelf stable stuff that i would not use. Restaurant & general store was tasty but not sustainable nor grass fed/organic. I wished there was higher quality meat on the menu. There were 2 TVs in our room and neither were connected to the internet.

Beautiful location and the grounds were well kept.

Nice room with rustic charm, and a small porch. Clean and comfortable. Easy access to good hikes. Food was very good, and the restaurant staff very friendly and helpful, especially the lady responsible for the bar.

Expensive due to location. No guest laundry. Little store convenient for emergency shopping, but very overpriced.

Bed and pillows were comfortable. Provided lotion. Appreciated the card security gate to the room.

Very sterile. Too dark of a decor. Bedroom windows face the road so you hear every vehicle that passes or pulls into the parking lot.

The food and hospitality of the River Inn. Located just across the road from the rooms, the restaurant offers delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner at very reasonable prices. We ended up eating all of our breakfasts and dinners at the restaurant as the menu provided significant choice and the quality of food was very high. The staff were very friendly and amenable. The onsite general stores was also a bonus, which we used to purchase a picnic lunch for our hike. We really liked the bathroom products and the shower was also really good pressure and spacious.

The rooms themselves are relatively basic, although fixtures are modern. We experienced heavy rainfall during our stay, and the carpet around the door became damp from our coming and going - it would have been good to have an inside doormat to absorb the dampness. Pillows could also do with an upgrade, as they were extremely limp.

Everything the facility had to offer was closed or under construction. Maybe something that needs to be mentioned to guest before booking.

I loved that our view out of our window faced the creek, the room was clean and spacious! The shower was beautiful and I enjoyed being out on the patio in the morning. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. I was originally booked in a standard room, but a few days before my trip there was a scheduled closure of highway one until 10pm the night I was arriving. The owner reached out to let me know so I could make different accommodation/ rebook, but because we were coming in late anyway we were able to make it to our booking. They ended up upgrading our room for our stay because we were able to make it in late, and it was a beautiful stay.

I wish there was a fridge inside of the room.

We appreciated their accommodation of our late arrival, providing us with a key easily accessible despite the rainstorm. Exploring this new location was a delightful experience, as it felt like being in a welcoming community. The rooms and the rustic ambiance of the place, coupled with the sound of the river echoing through the darkness of the night, created a unique atmosphere. Sitting outside on our two lounge chairs by our room, listening to the river and the rain while the wind intermittently made the tree branches sway, was truly enjoyable. This secluded spot is perfect for peaceful getaways and special occasions, offering a cozy and intimate setting.

I was not a fan of the fact that the restaurant opens at 9 am. In a setting like this, where people enjoy waking up early to savor the sounds of nature, having a delightful cup of coffee and a light breakfast would be ideal before starting a day of exploring all that Big Sur has to offer. Fortunately, the store opens early and offers breakfast burritos and coffee, catering to early risers who can't wait until 9 am for the restaurant to open.

The location would be hard to beat.

It was the most we paid for a room on the Pacific Coast Highway, and boy do the take advantage of the near monopoly they have. Everything is very expensive,car drivers should fill their tanks before venturing into the Big Sur or find the selves paying €3 a gallon more than normal price.
