The owner, Kenji was very helpful from the booking to the end of my stay. His written English is excellent. His speaking is good. He ran after me to the train station to help me purchasing tickets and help me fixed my shoes. I left a plug for my phone charger there. He mailed it to my next hotel promptly without charging me. This is the extra efforts, I heard some Japanese do. Thank you very much. You are a great host. Hope you and your family will visit America soon. The location is very close to JR train station.

I had a wonderful stay at this guest house in Arashiyama! Kenji, the host, was incredibly kind and helpful, making the experience even more special. The location is perfect — just a short walk to the beautiful Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and the Hozugawa River. The atmosphere was peaceful, and everything was clean and comfortable. I would definitely love to come back again. Highly recommend.

We really weren’t here for long, so, I can’t say too much. We arrived late at night and left early in the morning. Staff were very nice and kind enough to store our luggage while we explored the area the next day. Excellently placed for the train station (jr line for rail pass holders), which also happens to be next door to the Sagano railway hall. Very easy to get there in time for on the day tickets even at a peak time. Also very well placed for an early pleasant walk to Bamboo forest. Although, my I recommend continuing through to the pathway and viewpoint (it’s very crowded, even in the early am). Corner shop is also minutes away with pretty late opening hours.

The staircase was incredibly steep. I was a bit worried about my daughter in the night.

The host was so thoughtful and hospitable, sent iMessage prior to arrival with some excellent recommendations. We had everything we needed at the property, and were able to beat the crowds to the bamboo forest before breakfast! Thank you Guest House Atagoya for a memorable stay.

We had a great stay at Guest House Atagoya. The atmosphere was friendly, and everything was well-organised. The owner was super welcoming and gave great tips on local spots. The room and bathroom were clean. We definitely stay here again next time we are in town.

Amazing location, great value

The common areas (kitchen and bathroom) were not very clean, but that may have more to do with the other guests that were staying on the property at the same time as us, and not the host. Hard to say.

very close to the JR station and main street the host is extremely friendly and provided helpful information though we can only use the shared toilet and shower, there are not many guests per night, it's not inconvinient .

Extremely friendly host who gave us some recommendations for local restaurants and things to do. The guesthouse's in a walking distance to Arashiyama main area and it's also surrounded by decent food places.

It’s near the train station and easy to find. The room is clean and big, but its need to heat it in winter.

Best part were recommendations for dinner from the host and his quick responses. Also supper close to train station. Clean and warm (I was there in winter). Enjoyed the Japanese style bedding!
