When I arrived at this hotel, I'd been on upwards of 10 different trains. I was *exhausted*, thoroughly and totally knackered in fact. I saw a lovely armchair in reception. Do you mind if I sit down please. Not at all says the lovely woman in reception. Thank you and I collapse my tired heap of a body. Eventually, I summon up what energy I have left to sign my registration paperwork. Is it upstairs, I ask in hope and despair. Yes, but it's just one flight of stairs. So, summoning up my remaining bit of energy, I drag my tired body up the 12 stairs to bed. I get in my room, it's clean, there's a nice packet of hot chocolate waiting for me and a decent single bed. OK, great. I put my suitcase up on a generous table. The sink is in my room... but I can't find my phone charger. It's OK and I borrow one from reception. Can you wake me up at 0830. Breakfast is open until 9.30. OK 9am then. Best cooked breakfast I've had in any hotel, warmest personal service and much needed coffee and fresh apple juice. The perfect 2 star hotel just fantastic and the best way to set me up for my next day of travelling. They even give me the perfect blister plaster to ensure my day in London isn't a painful one. A++++++++

Nothing at all. It was all marvellous.

We stayed in two rooms during our stay which were both clean, comfortable and warm. ( we only changed rooms from a top floor to the ground floor as my wife had injured her ankle ). The staff couldn’t have been nicer , were always extremely helpful and to Karen in particular a big thank you for all your assistance. The location is also perfect being close and comfortable walking distance to shopping and restaurants etc.

Nothing really but maybe a slightly wider range of options at breakfast would have been good.

Excellent location for town and common, super price, friendly and really accommodating staff and great full English breakfast included . Has its own car park and the staff allowed us to park there early in the morning on arrival and leave the car for as long as we liked on the day of departure, fantastic. They even checked us in super early on arrival (10am!) which was completely unexpected and an amazing bonus.

It was all good but just as a heads up to others, we stayed on the top floor which was 4 flights of stairs (as it’s a period hotel there’s no lift) 😅

You dont have to expect a 5 star hotel breakfst but what you get in Russel is much more than what you can expect for an hotel of this category. So I will rate it as excellent. I really like this hotel, its not the first time I stay here. I heard , the hotel might close, maybe to be change in appartments, or new hotel. I hope the hotel will remain because I plan to come back. I hope also the friendly staff will keep their job.

Location was great. Breakfast was definitely a 'full' breakfast with several options and nothing too much trouble for the kitchen and waiting staff.

The room was very hot and the beds were uncomfortable and lumpy and the mattresses have had their day. On arrival there was a very drunken guest who was disorientated and swearing which the hotel cannot mitigate against. the hotel is a bit tired but for a bed for the night it served its purpose and the free parking as a good vfm extra

It was a pleasure to stay in this hotel because of the amiable people at reception who often assisted me, the beautiful and quiet dining room and its views of trees, the excellent well-cooked and served breakfasts, and the warm and tasteful look of the hotel. I was able to sleep well because it was quiet and the mattress and pillows were good. The large bathroom had a lovely bathtub and a stained glass window. The bedroom also had stained glass windows, comfortable furniture and a large desk.

I missed there being a good reading lamp.

Staff were very helpful - with difficult lock, lifting luggage, enquiries, ordering taxi, looking for lost/dropped small package ( which was my fault for putting it in wrong place). Very friendly.

Breakfast problem. Some breakfast options were seemingly cooked and then kept warm long before being served. Beans were overcooked, bacon hard and black pudding was inedible - could not even be cut as it was as hard as a piece of brick. Toast was fine as done by order. Perhaps they were preparing for more guests than were available for breakfast.

I stayed in the Annexe which had a kitchenette with microwave oven and fridge - very useful as my stay was longer than expected. The bathroom had a bath and separate shower, all recently renovated and also such a bonus! Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff, from the receptionists to the cleaners... everybody. I wouldn't stay anywhere else when I next visit TW. Huge thank you for making a difficult visit slightly less traumatic.

Parking area a little limited so some evenings I couldn't find a spot. But there was always parking on the street nearby.

Nice hot breakfast plus cereal and Juices. Really good size rooms much larger and more spacious than most hotels Very central so perfect for town access All amenities in the room, tea coffee etc, mine had a kitchen area with fridge and essentials in it that would be needed, glasses, plates cutlery etc. Separate shower and freestanding bath and spacious bathroom Compared to photos on booking.com room was more modern and has clearly had parts/decor updating

It had everything we needed, very good shower. The staff were very nice and helpful. All amenities were in walking distance! Breakfast was just right and the cooked breakfast was lovely.

Our room was very hot (although heat wave!) So we asked for a fan the next day. The decor was tired but didn’t hate it as the building had a lot of age/character.
