We booked a last minute break to South Devon having never been there before and were so happy to have found Church House Inn. It’s a lovely traditional old pub with rooms. Our room looked out onto the thatched cottage opposite. It was beautifully and tastefully decorated, immaculately clean with a super king size very comfy bed. I particularly appreciated the cold water in the fridge on the landing as the weather was very hot while we were there. We ate in the pub the first night which was first class and the staff were fantastic, going the extra mile by making me a pavlova without cream as I’m lactose intolerant. I can’t recommend this pub and rooms highly enough.

Nothing

As I arrive early on the Tuesday, I sat in the garden, with several cups of tea, which was excellent. I noticed a note on the fridge on the landing, saying please help yourself to water and milk. There was lots of water, but alas no milk, other than what was in my room. While this was not the end of the world or a complaint, it would have been nice had there been milk available, as stated on the fridge, as I had consumed several cups of tea from Tuesday to Thursday. Also, more conventional, PG tips type tea bags, would have been welcome, rather than, night time tea, fruit tea’s etc.

Everything, there was nothing not to like! The room was lovely, clean and tastefully decorated. Beds comfy with the bedding smelling of fabric conditioner. Fresh milk and water in a fridge where guests could just help theirselves. Staff couldn’t be more helpful and accommodating. Beautiful accommodation which was accessible to Salcombe, Kingsbridge and the like. Food in the restaurant, predominantly seafood, was exceptional, huge portions so don’t have a starter if you’re not a big eater! I could go on but I think you get the picture……

13th Century Beautiful Traditional Pub. The inside was exactly how you would expect it comfy Cove seating twinkle lights with the Warm welcome from Bar Staff Sophie ☺️ The Food looked delicious but we didn't dine in, but a huge portion of Prawn cocktail passed me by 🤤 My two Children and Myself stayed overnight. We arrived early at 4pm, Greeted By the Beautiful Blond Suzy. We were warmly welcomed and taken up through the back gated entrance to Our huge room. The Double Bed Was enormous the décor was so perfectly comfy and the highest standards of Cleanliness. Suzy explained that no one would be able to hear us and to enjoy settling in. A Salcombe Magazine was presented on the window Bay with all information needed to cover the Area. There is nothing better Than fresh 10000million thread count Egyptian Cotton sheets to climb into. The Size of the room was amazing (you could easily swing two or three cats)! A huge shower and very Hot. Tea and Coffee choice Biscuits. TV with Music Channel. Beautiful nights sleep and the Curtains kept the room completely dark in the morning. We had Booked Breakfast for 9.30am with Glen Husband on Board at the Pub, lovely Man made me a Cappuccino, coffee was fantastic. I ordered smoked salmon and Eggs the boys had Cereal, with Waffles and Toast with Jam. Fresh Juice and lots of Fussing over from Glen. Which was so nice for the children. He explained we could have more if we wanted. Wonderful conversation about how long the Couple had been at the pub (8 years) and how, This mother's Day was always a hit for them. Glen comes from a Regal background in Catering and has Served The late Queen and Prince Charles. 👑 If you decide to Stay here I highly recommend and rate this Inn as a perfect stay Home from Home.

Vegetarian breakfast was good. Location was handy for driving out to visit other places. Vegetarian evening meals were very good. Room was clean and bed comfy. Friendly staff. Could come and go as we pleased during stay.

Room was rather small but that was reflected in the price. Pub was not always open therefore we were sometimes unable to book breakfast or evening meal as we booked in on a room only tariff. Outdoor stairs to room from car park which meant we had to go outside to get back into the pub. Very limited hanging and storage space in room.

Very nice, well presented room. Unfortunately we were only there for the night as en route from Cornwall to Sussex and had to be away early. We didn't have dinner as had already eaten. The menu and food that other customers were eating looked lovely. Maybe next time. The breakfast was very nice. Staff very pleasant. Will stay again when next in the area.

Not really anything to dislike. One very minor and it is a very minor negative there was no hair dryer. We had one in the car though.

Staff very friendly and welcoming. We arrived on a Sunday when we knew the pub would be closed in the evening, but even though the bar was about to close, we were offered drinks to have in the private garden area for guests, and the waitress came out to see if we wanted anything else before she finished for the day. Breakfast was excellent- a really good choice of dishes. The room was lovely- beautifully done out with good quality furnishings and toiletries. There were filter coffee bags, which was a nice touch. The other good point for us was the fact that the inn was on a bus route. We were on a walking holiday with no car, and were able to get a bus right outside to the start of the Avon estuary walk.

No complaints at all

A really good size room even though we were three adults. The room was nicely decorated and well maintained. We like that bottles of water were freely available. Breakfast was included and the menu offered a wide choice. All the staff were welcoming and friendly. Car parking available.

Nothing. It was perfect for our needs.

Quaint and quirky

Whilst I understand the possible reasons behind a couple of things, they were for me, annoying. After draping my husband’s underwear over the standby light on the tv,which annoys me wherever we stay and piling cushions at the window to try and block the light which is going to stream in at 4am, lights out and ready for sleep. No, extractor in the shower room won’t turn off and there is a green fire exit light above the door which lights the whole room even though it is around the corner! The bed/mattress in Bantham room is very squeaky even when you are only turning over. Mentioned this to the owner at breakfast, no one has mentioned it before and she’s going to investigate and hopefully rectify it.

Breakfast and service was excellent, couldn't do enough for us. Delicious scrambled eggs and bacon set us up for the day. Would highly recommend.

Maybe request time for breakfast as part of orginal booking process, rather than having to confirm the day before - only because I missed the text as I was travelling.
