the hotel a fantastic position with great views of the sea. the rooms were comfortable and clean

We chose not to eat in the hotel, we may have decided otherwise if there was a menu available in our room to tempt us, and from other guest comments understood it was pricey. We did have breakfast which was a bit disorganised with some little but essential things missing - we had to ask for napkins, butter knife, serving spoons for the cold buffet - so did not live up to the price tag of the hotel. Service charge is added to every item even just a pot of tea - I just wish hotels could be honest with their pricing rather than hide the true cost by adding service charge to everything

The room was lovely with plenty of space and a really good shower. The hotel is in a stunning location looking out to sea. The food was very good although there are a couple of suggestions for improvement below.

Being railroaded into additional cost for the Christmas package. The food needed the option of side dishes so that having a particular vegetable didn't preclude one from ordering that dish. One of the waiting staff couldn't speak English.

Lovely friendly staff. Good breakfast and dinner choices. We enjoyed our stay and the weather was kind enough to allow us to sit outside on the terrace for a drink. Gorgeous waterside spot even when it's wild and windy. We've stayed before and will come back. Might choose different room though.

Room was fairly small but had everything you needed. Bathroom had shower over the bath which could be a problem for those less mobile. Car parking is an issue here so be warned. Tight entrance and nowhere to turn if full. Don't think they have enough spaces for guest numbers.

The staff really made it. Many thanks for a very relaxing time. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and if you wanted a chat they always made time (Charlie). They also gave good advice on places to visit especially Lucy who recommended visiting St Just in Roseland church and the foot ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth and her son for the coastal walk and all the other staff in the restaurant. The rooms are very clean, tidy and relaxing.

Nonething at all.

We had a great little double room with sea views in the annex. The location is fabulous, and we absolutely loved watching our beautiful dogs playing on the beach. The staff are lovely and very helpful, our favourite hailed from Athens and worked really hard. Thank goodness there’s a car park though as parking is at a premium in Portloe.

The noise. We could hear almost everything from the next room and even the sound of people in the room opposite. The breakfast was included, but the daily menu was so expensive that we decided not to eat there for any other meals after a pretty basic cheese plate on our first night that cost £16! Watch out for the 12.5% service added to the bill. It’s very naughty and should be at the guests’ discretion rather than being added automatically.

The staff are wonderful, very helpful and friendly. The room was fabulous with a great en suite and the best shower ever. Breakfast was superb with a large menu (the eggs royale are superb). There’s also a choice of cereals, pastries and yoghurts. The location is also superb being right on the cove with a small fishing harbour. It’s ideal for cliff walks along the south west coast path.

My only issue (and I’m nit-picking) is the restaurant is a little on the pricy side. I’m not saying the food isn’t good because it is, but I couldn’t afford to eat there every night if my holiday. A starter, main and dessert for two people with a couple of drinks or bottle of wine would easily cost £150.

All of the staff were welcoming and friendly. I mentioned that it was my birthday and I had "Happy Birthday" sang to me by the manager, a birthday card, and a plate of assorted chocolates with a "Happy Birthday" message after dinner, all of which were really lovely and unexpected. Our room, which was in a separate building just across the slipway, was quaint and well-furnished. Dinner and breakfast both have good menus and both meals were delicious, although my Eggs Benedict breakfast (see photo) was, sadly, too much for me to finish. We arrived at tea-time and left after breakfast, so I cannot comment much on the location, except to say that it is what you would expect from a traditional Cornish inn that is, literally, next to the sea on the beautiful Cornish coastline. Overall, it was a very pleasant one-night stay, and we plan to return.

Upgraded to Cobb Cottage. Couldn't fault this accommodation in any way. Breakfast as expected with European and Full English. Very accommodating for changes to menu.. All pastries were fresh. Good mixed fruit, Greek style yoghurt, cereal and so on. What made breakfast though, was the wonderful Head Waitress who constantly smiled, had the most beautiful laugh and took interest... in everything we had planned, with some useful local knowledge. Mornings were a real treat with her presence. We had dinner on the first night. Prices were very high, but the food good. Had dinner out through the week to save money. The pub just up the road, The Old Ship, proved to have good food, good service, lovely atmosphere and a tame Robin which made itself at home amongst the customers waiting for spilled tidbits. Always best to book.

Sunday breakfast was a complete disaster. Ordered were poached eggs on toast and eggs Benedict. The eggs on both plates were hard and very overcooked. They were inedible and sent back. Filled in the time for preparation with pastries and fruit. When the next set of poached eggs on toast and eggs Benedict were equally overcooked, hard and inedible. The waitress suggested I might like to change to scrambled eggs on toast. My wife did not want to risk it. Predictably, the scrambled eggs were dry and inedible. Like my wife, I had pastries, fruit, yoghurt, and other fare from the cold table. There was very little concern shown by the waitresses who were weekend staff. I would suggest not choosing anything cooked on a Sunday and plan a brunch elsewhere.

Excellent chef and range of menu for dinners. Stunning view. A very quiet cove but could watch the fishermen launch their boats- an authentic old fashioned Cornwall experience in luxury. The costal path takes off from the hotel so you can get in some good walks with beautiful cliff views.

This is for a quiet rest- you can swim in the cove and there are some kayaks and paddle boards but if you want a lot of activities it requires you to drive to other locations. We had no problem with this but others might. The food was outstanding but if you want to eat at a different place every night you will be driving/taxi. We had no need to go anyplace else to eat because the menu varied and the food perfect for us.

Location was superb, certainly worth paying for a partial sea view. Excellent that the dinner and breakfast menus are changed daily, this was above and beyond and welcomed as we stayed for 2 nights. I must say having been to Northcote and The Black Swan both Michelin starred establishments, who did not change their menus and unfortunately we had to have a ‘fixed’ menu. Evening meals served on warmed plates. We believe our feedback will taken onboard by the owner, who we saw at the hotel, who also seems so passionate about his business, as he clearly has a hands on approach, in fact there was a delivery of logs for the fire, which was dumped by the delivery driver at the entrance to the hotel, within minutes the owner changed his smart business jacket to a jacket and started to move (probably a tonne of fire wood), with a wheelbarrow. Superb! All of the staff were friendly and appeared to enjoy working at The Luggers! This clearly comes from the top.

My breakfast was cold, in the fact that the sausage cold, clearly pre cooked but not warmed up completely, black and white pudding were not completely cooked, therefore, unable to eat as well as being served on a cold plate. Second breakfast ordered was Eggs Benedict stated it would be delivered with ham, unfortunately it was delivered with bacon, hollandaise sauce tasteless, muffin soggy, (from poached eggs that had not had the water drained off before putting on the muffin), also served on a cold plate.
