The architecture of the hotel alone is worth a visit, as it is an old convent. The rooms are cozy and quiet, the location is great for exploring the city (cathedral and shopping close by), we had a very nice dinner and the breakfast was really good. This was the first time in my whole life that reception rang me, 10 mins after checking in, to ask if the room was to my liking - and they have nice old-style phones which ring with a bell (completely irrelevant, but I loved that). We were also allowed to use the car park on the day of our departure for as long as we liked.
We got somewhat unlucky as the hotel had two large groups (events/meetings) at the same time, which slowed down the restaurant service somewhat - but to name that as a real problem would be an exaggeration - this is just to let the avid reader know, that this could be something to check for with the restaurant in advance as I don´t believe this can be rectified (it´s a kitchen, not a service problem)

The pet friendly room was very nice and a lovely bathroom. Some treats etc. for our small dog was a nice touch.
We had to sit in the bar for breakfast on our own due to having a dog fair enough. We had to ask to be served and we were a bit forgotten. The breakfast took a long time to come we had to remind them, when it arrived it was cold and dried up where it had been sitting at the kitchen waiting to be served I guess the coffees were also cold when we finally got them shame so we left most of it. I was in a rush to go to a work call so had to leave promptly so did not have time to say anything.

The hotel itself it in a beautiful old building but they've updated the interiors so they are modern but still in keeping with the buildings age. The shortbread in the room was a nice touch and the breakfast was really good. It was a treat to stay here for work!
The food in the restaurant at dinner wasn't great and pretty expensive. I had a really small portion of tagliatelle with clams and muscles. The shellfish tasted good quality but there was too much turmeric in the dish and I had to order some extra chips as I wasn't full. The bedroom was initially very hot but it cooled down with the fan by the window.

The hotel is stunning and in a really lovely location. The rooms are of good size and with great facilities We found all of the staff to be really friendly and accomodating The food was excellent (lunch and breakfast)
Sadly, although the first room we were allocated was lovely (as far as size/size of bed/decor); we had to ask to be moved as there is a door below the room which kitchen staff frequently use which squeaks then bangs every time they go in and out. The bang is so loud it made the bedrooom walls vibrate. It is very unfortunate that the hotel have not rectified a problem I think they were aware of. We'd hope the introduction of a soft closure or something around the door frame to prevent this from happening would make the room a quiet one again. Fortunately the receptionist facilitated a move - the room was still lovely but with a smaller bed.

The comfortable, spacious bedroom, with armchairs, as well as hot chocolate and biscuits. The hotel as a whole, which was relaxed, with sofas and magazines on landings.
I was a bit disappointed that I didn't have a view - all i could see was greenery. At breakfast, as I was just asked whether I wanted tea or coffee and then not asked what I wanted to eat, I wasn't sure whether I was to go up to the counter with my order, or whether somebody else would be taking my food order, as nobody explained. When I did get my breakfast, the toast was a bit burnt, and the egg seemed to have been poached, rather than fried, which was what I had requested.

Everything was truly exceptional. The Sun was out, the gardens in bloom and the Sun rays coming through the woods was stunning. All the staff were fantastic and attentive. We had an upgrade to a junior suite with double bath was brilliant. The Food was outstanding, we had a Champagne afternoon tea and dinner. Thrown in was a complimentary beer on arrival and a glass of bubbly at the table. We also had a bottle of fizz waiting for us in the room. The room was fantastic, very large and very comfortable. Thank you to the Team at The Alverton to making our special day so Special.

the hotel as always was excellent, the staff are very helpful and friendly. made sure i had everything i needed and helped me with my luggage. the rooms were lovely and very clean. having a small fridge is a good addition.
the door to my room faced the landing/walkway and although it was unavoidable that I could hear other guests as they walked by (room2), I'm glad to say it was much quieter after 10:00pm. I did not get my breakfast - I arrived in the restaurant at the time i had reserved, i received my tea and toast but the scrambled eggs and bacon did not not turn up, even after asking. I had to leave to reach my meeting on time, but reception were helpful and reduced my overall bill to recompense me.

We booked a garden view room near the main staircase which is a category we have stayed in previously. It was a spacious, comfortable room with 2 bathrooms, which was a nice surprise! One had a compact shower, loo, hand basin and heated towel rail and one had a bath, loo, bidet, hand basin and heated towel rail. Towels were large bath sheets and hand towels. There were towelling dressing gowns, slippers, a good hospitality tray including hot chocolate and shortbread. We have stayed here several times and its proximity to The Hall for Cornwall makes it very convenient when seeing a show, as well as shopping in the city. Staff are always very polite and friendly and both our evening meals and breakfast are always very good.
The shower in one of our en-suite bathrooms was rather compact and it would have been nice to have a rainfall shower head, although this is being a bit picky.

Very handy location when exploring Cornwall. The building is beautiful as were the staff. Our room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the shower fantastic. And all for a very sensible price. Also I highly appreciate the 11am departure time. Far too many places are getting earlier and earlier. Theirs nothing better than leaving your stay in a leisurely manner, makes you feel welcomed for your custom instead of being kicked out abruptly like your in a conveyor belt.
I think if you spent a little money on some decent carpet throughout it would transform the property. Also the breakfast was far too small. However these are only constructive criticisms and didn't deflect from the lovely time we had here.

As soon as I began to drive up the winding drive, I knew I was in for a treat. Easy to park, and a short cut path to reception. Very helpful and friendly receptionist, and a kind young man to show me to my room - and carry my bag. Fabulous room with double bed and ensuite bathroom. Gorgeous views from mullioned window. Nice temperature. Easy to get a sandwich. Inclusive breakfast delicious. But for me, this is the amazing bit: I have fibromyalgia and crave a decent night's sleep, but at the Alverton I slept like a log for 8.5 hours!! I woke up really refreshed! Everyone was so lovely and spoke to me as if I was the only person in the hotel. I didn't want to leave, and I definitely want to go back again!
Well, it has to be the stairs. A bit steep. But authentic in the lovely old building. And a good way to walk off the lovely food!
