The hotel has an excellent location, very close to the station and bus hub, and 10-15 mins walk from town centre. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent, cooked fresh for you. There is a lovely little garden by the river, and sitting there was the perfect place to relax in the heat we’ve been experiencing. There was unfortunately a power cut for most of our first night, due to nearby workers severing the cable and then having to switch off the substation until it was fixed, but the owner/manager coped well with what must have been a very stressful situation. Having a free car park was very useful, and we were given clear instructions on how to access it, as the roadworks etc nearby have affected this. We would definitely stay here again, for the location and breakfasts.

The decode is a bit dated in the room/bathroom, but it didn’t really bother us.

I stayed at the River Hotel in Oxford and the experience was truly exceptional. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the city centre and well connected, ideal for sightseeing. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful from the very first moment: always smiling, attentive and ready to give great advice both on Oxford and the surrounding area. This made the stay even more pleasant and welcoming. The room was clean, comfortable and well-maintained, with all the necessary facilities for a relaxing stay. The breakfast was also very good, with fresh produce and a good variety. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a homely, quiet environment with impeccable service. I would definitely stay there again!

Unhygienic floor carpeting

The staff was really friendly and caring. From checking in and having a talk with the receptionist about my plans in Oxford, to the staff who served breakfast and even opened up the restaurant earlier, because I had business appointments already in the morning, to the staff taking care of the room. It was a great experience. Further experiences I liked: - surroundings of the hotel, the garden - authentic rooms (a bit old fashioned but this made it so authentic and ovely!) - lovely decorations in the hotel

This hotel is very close to railway station, ideal for people relying on public transport including bus. It’s also within walking distance to major attractions in the Oxford centre. The decor is lovely and traditionally British. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great and with a wide range of choices. Room is clean and big enough to accommodate two people. I did enjoy my stay in this hotel.

If I really need to pick up one, I would say the furniture in the room is a bit old, but honestly this doesn’t affect me much.

The location couldn't be better, 2 minutes walk from the station and overlooking the river. The breakfast was excellent, served in a room with bay windows overlooking the garden and the river, including poached eggs with nice soft yolks, with sausage, beans, toast, cereal and fruit. The room had a full private bathroom, and the hotel had an iron which was useful.

The decor was very dated, especially in the bedrooms. The standard of cleanliness in the corridors and bathrooms could have been a little higher. The check-in could have been friendlier, although the staff were friendly at other times.

I liked everything about it...location, location, location. I stayed for 2 nights. Walking distance to GWR, which was great as I am a solo traveller with 2x suitcases. Hop On Hop Off 5min walk. Great local pubs and grocery shops. Oxford centre at your fingertips...really you were in it. The beautiful river next to it. The breakfast was fantastic. The staff wow. Loved everything and definitely will be staying there again if ever back in Oxford. Will highly recommend it :) Thank you

Excellent location close to rail station, and to taxi rank to get around Oxford, especially useful in light of the current closure of Botley Bridge. Able to still drive to hotel, and park at rear of hotel. Lovely location next to the canal, view from the dining room at breakfast, and from garden weather permitting. Host and staff very friendly and extremely helpful and attentive to guests’ needs. Nice light airy dining room, tables well-spaced, clean and bright, fresh flowers, big windows. Breakfast was excellent, selection of cereals, fresh fruits, juices, tea/coffee, choice from menu, very tasty cooked breakfast, toast and preserves, all with excellent service. Quiet location. Highly recommended.

The staff were extremely friendly. The people seemed to have attended to my every need practically immediately. Though I did not ask for it, my room was cleaned every day. Complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies added to the hospitality. The location is extremely convenient, short and pleasant picturesque walk to downtown and all the major attractions, colleges, museums, churches, and chapels, restaurants, shopping mall, etc. The railway station and the bus station are in a short walking distance. City bus tour starts in less than a minute walk. I could not have asked for more in these terms. Also, it is a very quiet and safe area with lots of nice and friendly people around.

Talking about improvements, some percentage of the room rates needs to be allotted towards more substantial renovations and repairs. As for the breakfast buffet, I could not figure out what they meant under this word: some slices of strawberries and diced into molecules pears, some yogurt and some condiments?.. Yet, the breakfast to order was very feeling.

Stayed 3 nights with friends .. on arrival the person on reception (who’s name we unfortunately didn’t catch )was pleasant and helpful . Room was good , plenty of extra pillows available. Bit of a smallish bathroom for a family room . Complementary water was a nice touch . Great breakfasts each morning. Nice cosy bar area with an honesty bar and a good selection of drinks . Phil the hotel manager was helpful , friendly and informative about things to do in the area and made us feel very welcome in this family run hotel .. excellent customer service from everyone we met , lovely ladies serving breakfast . Recommend this small family run hotel , with free parking a real bonus too .

Nothing , maybe a larger bathroom

We enjoyed our stay at the River Hotel. It is in a convenient location next to the River Thames, with about a 10 minute walk to central Oxford. There is a nice pub only one block away. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. There was ample space to park our car. Overall, pretty good value for money.

We initially had an issue with the radiator not working in our room, but the staff were able to fix the problem. We had to leave the water running for some time before the water got hot in the bathroom sink and shower. Apparently there is not much that can be done about this because of the way the pipes are configured. There is some construction going on around the railway bridge near the hotel, but it did not bother us.
