Have stayed here before , (and had led a number of training sessions here on behalf of Oxfordshire LA in the past) , and enjoyed the ambience / grounds etc... A very good breakfast with plenty of choices , and a clean and well furnished room .

Would really like to stay in somewhere other than the garden wing - whilst the rooms are fine from the interior , it was a trek to get to it from reception after a very long drive down from the north , and the building looks very 'down at heal ' from the exterior.

We were warmly greeted at reception on our arrival. Due to building works on site, we were provided with a map which was helpful and very clear. While there was a wedding taking place the sound was entirely contained within that area of the hotel. We met with family in the foyer and reception staff were happy to allow us to move the furniture around! The staff at breakfast were very friendly and helpful.

We had some difficulty finding the venue and the telephone was not answered when we called for directions.

I love the location and the grounds. The rooms are good and beds are comfy. My favourite space is the Italian Garden.

There was an issue with breakfasts this time, which was a shame. We stayed before the dining room refurbishment (April 2025). Everyone was complaining about the issues with the cooked breakfasts not being available as a while. You’d be waiting with your plate of bacon and beans…. Which was going cold, while waiting for eggs. I felt sorry for the staff who were running backwards and forwards to the kitchen… getting lots of people asking them for different items. The new trays are very small and only hold a few eggs, for example. There were a couple of weddings in and it seemed the kitchen hadn’t taken that into consideration. Real shame! Otherwise a lovely mini break. Just spoilt by poor planning for the hotel being very full.

Room was lovely - although it was a personal trip I did have to do some work to do and the desk area was very useful. Comfy bed. Pool was nice - quiet early morning swim. However, website said towels were available at the gym reception and there wasn't a reception, just a door swipe card to access, so no towels. Receptionist on booking in/checking out was very pleasant & helpful - also found us wandering round lost later and took us the right way! Nice grounds, enjoyed a pleasant walk around.

Breakfast was poor in that there were enough staff around but they didn't really do anything useful. I waited 20 minutes for bacon and a further 5 minutes for tomatoes, even though I had advised there were no tomatoes at the same time as the bacon. Yogurt and museli were empty too and were not replenished at all. Limited fruit on offer. No one was checked in for breakfast, so there was no monitoring of how many people were left to come in - a useful guide to work out how much to top up. Plates weren't cleared from tables either. I've done this role in the past, it's not difficult, but there is more to it than just wandering round smiling vacantly, guys!

The hotel is set in large grounds and provide a nice walk or run. The house is quite grand, and has an Italianate Garden to enjoy. The breakfast, was self service and all the food was good. Coffee/Tea is available during the day. Standard Double was an ok size of room. Bath room nice, with walk in shower. Staff very nice and helpful. Though work was going on in the hotel to improve guest areas it did not feel like a building site, and apart from some parking space lost for construction materials you would not have noticed the work going on.

Not major issues: 1) did not get told that work at hotel was going on until just before stay. 2) Though room booked, and the booking did say which wing the room was in, it was not clear until we got there that the wing was of a 1970's/80's build so hundreds of years younger than the main house, and the concrete walls looked tired. There was no photos of the external building shown on the Booking.Com website. Having said that, I would consider going here again, but may choose my room more wisely.

Parking was easy and close by. Every single member of staff we met in our stay was welcoming and happy to help. There was a wedding during our stay but we don’t think this affected our stay negatively at all. Our favourite part of our stay was sitting in the shaded chairs in the garden with a drink from the make-shift bar and we watched the bunny’s in the grass. The spa facilities were great. For a weekend, the pool was never overly busy and neither was the sauna/steam room. The pool was a perfect temperature. The general appearance of the hotel was impressive and exceptionally clean. The garden with the water feature was wonderful to sit in and have a coffee in the morning.

The only couple of small negatives I can think of were that there was no water fountain for drinks by the pool/steam room/ sauna. I’m aware there was one outside the pool room however I think there should be one inside as it didn’t feel right leaving the pool area in a bikini to get water in the leisure lobby. The other thing was that the room very warm, however the addition of the fan really helped.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They are an asset to the hotel. Lily our waitress at dinner was very friendly and helpful. She was very attentive without being intrusive. We engaged her in a conversation and have to say she was very interesting,we enjoyed our conversation with her. Food was great as was the wine Lily recommended. The room was spotlessly clean and the leisure facilities that we used after breakfast were really good. The room was warm but having windows open and throwing off duvet sorted that so enjoyed a good night's sleep! All in all an excellent stay. Just wished the weather hadn't prevented us from enjoying the beautiful grounds.

Nothing to not like!

Lovely old house. The staff were exceptional. They went out of their way to help and provide a lovely welcome for the bride and groom. I would particularly like to mention Anna who was brilliant and made sure our large party of guests were all sorted. The main house and bedrooms are like staying in a traditional mansion with large rooms. Beds were very comfy and rooms were clean and comfortable. The grounds are fabulous for a stroll with local wildlife of rabbits and deer to spot. The restaurant and breakfast were great.

The main house is looking a little tired in places but this did not spoil our enjoyment.

Lovely helpful staff, great pool facilities, th jacuzzi and steam and sauna a great bonus, really goo value for money and great location, the main building was beautiful and so were the grounds, the rooms were clean and cosy.

The car park at the back was full so had to park my car at the front of the building, which was a long walk to the room. Also would be nice to have had a bath in the room, not just a shower. Our rooms were in a brutalist building at the back, the middle garden square was in need of of some updating. And breakfast was in the bar while the restaurant was being developed, only one coffee machine and a big queue.

Serene location Rooms generally very comfortable Breakfast was excellent, good variety of hot and continental. Staff and service exceptional Access to leisure centre and pool well worth it

This is my 3rd visit. Slight disappointment as the room had items missing which were present on other 2 visits such as no door signs for "Do not Disturb" and whilst not relevant for me, there were no sanitary bags. I still have not figured out where the heating controls are. Can see a radiator in the room and a towel radiator in the bathroom but no controls It would be good if there was a fridge in the room
