It's the best boutique hotel on Copacabana Beach with balconies . The view from my balcony was fantastic. Going to the rooftop to enjoy the pool, bar, the relaxing lounge chairs and the view that included Christ the Redeemer. Portobay hotel did every right including free beach chairs, umbrellas towels, even attendance to get your drinks. This includes watching your personal items if you want to stroll along the beach or swim. The location was superb for hotel guests within walking distance to restaurants and live entertainment blocks away . If you prefer to stay in they have a restaurant to accommodate for dinner. I would definitely return to this hotel and also recommend to my friends and family in Canada and USA.

Everything was exceptional including the front desk at 4am assistance while I waited for my driver to catch my flight to see the Iguazu Falls

Staff were helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived. They helped us to organise a room for an early checking, help Book activities, advise on timings to and from destinations and went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The location is exceptional. You're right on Copacabana Beach. There is a taxi rank on the corner for days out. Excellent room service and rooftop bar. We used the spa and the gym too which were one of the best I've seen in a hotel. The views are incredible! I'd recommend having some cocktails on the roof and breakfast in the morning. We loved our stay so much we've booked to stay again.

There isn't anything I didn't like nor is there anything I'd change.

Very efficient staff, all friendly staff. The reception staff were very helpful and also gave good advice when we asked them questions. The room was comfortable and still had a good view of the beach. The hotel is central to a lot of great restaurants and 45 mins walking distance from Ipanema beach and restaurants. Would definitely be back, we visited in the winter season (August) so will be back before the summer heat begins. The restaurant staff were attentive, i regret I didn't ask the name of the staff who was very helpful and friendly.

The shower temperature was difficult to control and the Manuel shower head kept moving around when on.

The location of the restaurant is right by the beachfront so well connected and accessible for walks etc. There are plenty of restaurants nearby as well. The hotel has stunning service from staff with incredible attention to detail. They are also able to help you book activities, call taxis etc. English-speaking staff also a big plus! The rooftop has incredible sundowner views and pool. The hotel also has a designated area on the beach and you have a designated hotel employee who assists with food/drink orders and is incredibly friendly. Would highly recommend!

Room was small and fittings a bit tired. Our first room wasn’t very clean and on a low floor. We asked if we could have a higher room and were willing to pay for it. The receptionist was extremely rude and shouted at me which I told him was totally unacceptable. He said he had already given us an early check in and nothing was available . We got our room at 2.30pm check in was 3 pm. I refused to take the room and we were located to one floor above . Room was ok but windows didn’t shut properly so a bit noisy but manageable. As everything else was ok we just carried on. All other staff was lovely. So basically a good hotel but there’s no excuse for shouting at a customer.

A beautiful hotel where the staff are always smiling and willing to help. Centrally located, with stunning views from our balcony, the restaurant and rooftop pool of Copacabana beach. We were so grateful for the early check-in, especially after a 11-hour overnight flight – thank you Talis! The rooms were spacious, cleaned daily and the bathroom was of good size with a powerful shower. The swimming pool wasn’t heated, but in 34 degrees it was great to cool off in! We loved the rooftop bar and the private beach area, exclusive for PortoBay guests. Caio and Isais deserve a special mention for their hospitality at the beach. The breakfast was fantastic! So much choice…and prosecco! Special mention to Wellington and Carlinhos who looked after so well and kept us topped up with coffee and alcoholic drinks! Saying that, every staff member was fantastic, and we had no complaints with anyone. I also had a lovely full body massage at the hotel spa, which was very welcomed after a long day of travelling. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Rio de Janeiro. We had a wonderful holiday!

If I was to make one small criticism, is that I found my pillows to be far too soft. Saying that, other guests we spoke to said they loved them, so I guess it’s down to personal preference!

I had an incredible stay at PortoBay in Copacabana! This hotel is perfect for a visit to the area. The reception staff were consistently fantastic—friendly, helpful, and highly knowledgeable about local excursions. I highly recommend booking through the hotel, as they always go out of their way to accommodate and provide top-notch service. The porter was also very attentive and always ready to help, as others have mentioned. One of the best perks is that they offer free beach chairs, umbrellas, and towels for guests, which made our beach days so much easier. The two staff members stationed at the beach were wonderful—always happy to help and willing to go the extra mile to ensure guests have a great experience. The view from the hotel is another highlight (depending on the room); we could see Christ the Redeemer in the distance, with Copacabana Beach right across the road. The hotel felt surprisingly modern compared to others nearby, which made it an even better choice. They also have a rooftop pool and bar, which I didn’t visit often, but when I did, it was clean and lively. There was live music on some nights, adding to the great atmosphere and beautiful view, the staff up there were fantastic as well. I felt safe coming and going from the hotel thanks to their security presence, which is really reassuring.

The only downside to my stay (personal preference) was the limited options for vegetarian diets at breakfast. With so many diverse dietary needs these days, I felt there could be a bit more variety—adding items like vegetarian sausages or other plant-based alternatives would be a fantastic improvement. While some options were available, a few more choices would really elevate the breakfast experience for those with specific dietary preferences. That said, the view from the breakfast area is a beautiful way to start your day, overlooking the stunning Copacabana Beach.

Great location, the rooftop area has a pool and a great bar along with amazing views. Great welcoming by the staff and amazing service throughout. Special thanks to Thiago, Rafael, (all the staff at the lobby desk), José, Márcia and Wellington from the rooftop area. The staff really added to our stay, definitely a great team. Room service was great, amazing food. Amazing view from the balcony. Nice feeling of security everywhere in the hotel.

Room wasn’t dirty but it wasn’t up to standard either. Sink and tub were both clogged and the shower partition leaves the bathroom floor completely wet. The balcony door was really complicated to close.

Location is perfect right in the middle of Copacabana beach - we found the beach clean and full of families easy to rent an umbrella and chairs - although the hotel has free ones with towels, but we didn't find those until the 3rd day, also if you want to swim together they will look after valuables the beds were amazingly comfy - seemed like new mattresses with a deep integral topper it was lovely to have a balcony - to dry out swimming costume the breakfast was literally amazing - everything you could possibly want and the staff very friendly and efficient the reception staff were very friendly and helpful loved the rooftop bar and pool - live music one evening I saw a review that felt the streets behind the hotel didn't feel safe we didn't find that at all

The location of course is really good, right across the beach from Copacabana. There are many restaurants near by and the mall is walking distance(be careful walking through tunnel to the mall). The food at the hotel is pretty good. Not expensive. The rooftop pool is nice and sitting area is nice. The staff was super helpful, polite. The bed was comfortable and shower nice.

The room I stayed in (1108) was not in good conditions. They need to remodel some rooms. For the price I paid, I could have stayed at the Hilton or got an apartment. The elevators are small and sooooooo slow. I had to take the stairs many times. The massage therapist is on call only... there is not a therapist on staff during work hours.
