We had a pleasant stay at the King Charles Hotel and found it to be excellent value for money. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and we appreciated no noise from other rooms. The staff are friendly, patient, helpful, and full of good humour, which added a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast was included in the price and was simple but satisfying. The room also had thoughtful touches like a fan, plenty of tea and coffee, and all the basics needed for a short stay. All in all, while the hotel’s exterior may not impress at first glance, the clean rooms, quiet atmosphere, and outstanding staff more than make up for it.

The outside of the building and car park look rather tired and could use some freshening up. The hallways had a damp smell that often comes with carpets in hotel rooms (the room itself was fine). The overall style and furnishings are a bit dated, but lets call it retro. Nice outdoor seating area, but even nicer if part could be for non-smokers.

Our ground floor room was lovely with a 4 poster bed and the largest indoor spa bath we've ever encountered. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant staff coped very well with the busy breakfast period (breakfast to order) - unflustered. Despite being busy, a hot breakfast was served quite quickly.

Entry to ghe carpark was a little daunting prior to eventually seeing the hotel. Tha general decor in the room was tired and needed attention. Bathroom flooring was inappropriate/unsuitable and this was evident from its appearance. Attention needs to be paid to ceiling corners for spider webs etc.

The room was ok, clean and comfortable bed. The staff were really lovely, friendly, patient great sense of humour. From tge outside the venue looked shabby but inside was ok. Hallways we're a bit damp smelling but the rooms were ok and thats the main thing

Breakfast looked really undercooked. I even had to ask the staff is it cooked as the sausage was anemic, which meant I didn't eat it, so for me I should have gone for the continental. I dont mean to slate the hotel but im just being honest. If the sausage was cooked more it would have been edible. But hey its just a breakfast not the end of the world, at least we got a comfortable nights sleep. Just a heads up the tvs are tiny, again no biggy but if you like to unwind with a bit of tv watching in bed, its very hard to do. Apart from that it served the purpose for us to lay our heads after a family celebration in a clean safe environment

I went to bed at about 11.30pm, but I could hear the television and 2 ladies talking in the adjacent room. Although it wasn't all that late, I didn't want to risk this going late into the early hours, as I had to be up early in the morning. So I got dressed and went down to reception, the lady there was very helpful, and offered me a room in a different part of the hotel, which was perfect, and I had a good sleep.

I went down for breakfast, but I only had about 30 mins, so I asked one of the waitresses how long it would take for any hot food order, she said that they're very busy, but she could make me a cheese/ham baguette, which I could take away, this sounded perfect. So I sat there for about 30 mins without any food, I asked the waitress a few times during this period if it was nearly ready, but was just told that it was on its way. After 30 minutes, I asked someone else that I knew in the restaurant if they could bring me the baguette when it eventually came out, . When my friend brought it to me a few hours later, it wasn't even prepared, it was just bread, a piece of cheese and a slice of ham, the bread wasn't even cut.

The team was super friendly, and the check-in was simple. The room was dated but clean and comfortable and had all of the necessary amenities. The extra large bed was very comfortable, and the WiFi was fast and easy to connect to. We had a great night's sleep, and the breakfast was tasty with plenty of options to choose from. Continental, full English, and vegetarian breakfast options were available alongside fresh juices, fruits, coffee tea, and toast. Overall, I am very satisfied with our visit. it's definitely excellent value for money.

Thank you for asking! While the breakfast had some nice elements, I was a bit disappointed with the limited options. I was expecting a fuller spread, but I found myself with just one sausage and one hash brown, and I couldn't have a croissant alongside that. The takeaway breakfast the next day was also just a traditional croissant, which didn’t quite meet my expectations. As for the hotel location, it was convenient and had easy access to key attractions, which was definitely a plus!

In addition to the breakfast experience, I also encountered some challenges with the morning receptionist. I found them to be less than helpful when I needed assistance opening the door to the area where my car was parked. It was quite inconvenient for me, especially since I had multiple pieces of luggage to carry. I ended up having to go all the way around, which was frustrating. When I asked about the takeaway breakfast, I was disappointed again, as it didn’t meet my expectations. Overall, these aspects made my stay less enjoyable.

The Hotel is not luxurious but for the price is perfectly acceptable. I suspect that quite a few customers use it, as we did, as a stopover on the way to Le Shuttle (about 45 mins away). As somewhere conveniently located, with a large car park it serves that purpose extremely well. As a bonus, if you were to stay longer, it’s a few minutes walk to the town centre which has an extremely impressive collection of food shops/cafes representing food from all over the world.

Nothing, it was all you might expect as a budget hotel close to London.

Loved the decor, fish tanks were amazing. Pictures plants etc excellent. Gorilla 👍🏻👍🏻🤣. Reception area is second to none. Cleanliness was excellent. Will stay again in the summer and take advantage of the marvelous garden area's

The breakfast was OK but the cook needs to learn how to cook sausage, most days it barely saw the frying pan it was nearly raw. The lights above the mirror in the room didn't work. Parking was a problem at times. Large vans should use first car park and leave car park near reception for cars.

This was excellent value for money with breakfast included AND with plenty of free parking (which you never get in other city centre hotels these days); staff were courteous, friendly and helpful; breakfast and restaurant meals were perfectly acceptable, granted nothing fancy, but reasonably priced and impressive list of choices on the restaurnant menu, much longer than is usual, and again, staff very courteous. Location ideally placed for visiting the dockyard, museums and the university. Surprisingly large number of rooms, but didn't feel like it - and very pleasant internal courtyard, would have been worth using in warmer weather. Overall, you could tell how well maintained and managed the place was by how clean all the tropical fish tanks were.

Nothing - would use again if visiting this area.

Restrauent breakfast staff just felt little uncomfortable staff need their private chat in private and seem be put out each my son want back to get anything thought the breakfast was get as much you want we only had 3items cooked breakfast toast and natural yoghurt and fresh orange the looks two lady waitresses made us feel like d8d wrong.. they need too be conscious that some have special needs my son has asd. They need to welcome guest the same not who they choose be more welcoming too .. the two lady staff could learn from evening Restrauent and bar staff ... thankyou
