Check-in was good and fast, room (on ground floor) was large and generally clean (a little dust on higher areas but not really a problem) The bed was 6ft wide and comfortable with soft white bedding, large tv, fan, T&C, good bathroom, lovely breakfast and free parking. Very close to pubs (no noise heard), eateries, supermarket, train station and Southend Airport. Ideal. Far better rates with Booking.com than calling the hotel direct.

Although we did manage to park, the hotel has many contractors during the week who have large vans and dont always seem to park thoughtfully. As we have a tiny car this was not too much of a problem but the hotel should consider marking parking spaces to maximise them.

Overall we had a lovely stay as wedding guests that we felt was good value for money. The rooms were large, quiet and clean, although the decor was a little tired in places. The function rooms where the wedding was held were tastefully decorated and spacious. There seemed to be plenty of staff on hand who were helpful and polite and the buffet food they served was delicious and well presented. The Breakfast was nothing amazing but good, with cooked and vegetarian options on offer. I would stay again.

The bedrooms could do with some redecoration, the mattress was soft and the pillows were quite thin.

Comfortable and clean room

Bizarre shower - the shower head needed turning to different angles to get the bath to work. Instructions in the room would have been useful. Electrical chord for kettle couldn’t reach the plug and sit on the desk/table so we had to boil the kettle on the floor. An extension lead would have worked. Real coffee at breakfast please! Instant is fine for the room but if you’ve paid for breakfast I think a pot of hot water for your tea or a made coffee could be brought to your table.

Very nice small hotel. Reception Staff could not do enough for us. They absolutely went that extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed to make our stay really welcoming. Having lost a small item of sentimental value, again the Reception staff looked everywhere with us. Once we had left the hotel we received a message to say the item had been found and was on its way back by post to reunite us!!!

Breakfast and service at breakfast was very nice. Good quality bacon, sausage and eggs, etc. Room was spacious and generally clean and the drink making facilities was good. The shower was nice and warm and high pressure.

The shower head connection to the shower hose was leaking and probably had an issue with the rubber seal. The carpet was stained and showed more because the carpet was a light tan colour. The room was a little dark from natural light so the main lights need to be kept on even during the day.

The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Good breakfast.

Just simple things to enhance the experience. Breakfast - put milk for tea and coffee and milk for cereal separate, as the milk was used mainly for cereal. Also, access to ice as it was very hot during our stay, although a member of staff kindly supplied ice on request.

Lovely room, nice and warm when I got in. Bed very comfortable and there was a complimentary bottle of water which was appreciated because I forgot to get some. Breakfast was really nice too. Lovely staff. It’s a nice place, I didn’t even know it was there.

I wish there was a hair dryer in the room, I probably could have got one from reception but it was too late to ask by the time I found out.

Rooms tidy and clean.

I didn't like that there was not enough hand ,shower gel and shampoo. Just 2 5ml tiny containers just enough for 1 wash. I had to wait almost 20 min to be checked in. The lady was on the phone all this time even if 2 other people were around the desk. No greeting no sorry to keep you waiting no nothing. The breakfast was lovely but no beans which was annoying. Other then that everything was ok.

Comfy big bed with quality linen. Enough towels for both of us plus toiletries. Breakfast was good.

Pillows were quite hard. Parts of the carpet in the room hadn't been cleaned. When others left their rooms the doors were very noisy. The plug in our bath didn't work well and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work.

Room has everything you want and location. Breakfast was of a good quality

The hotel does focus on being a wedding venue which I only realised on arrival. As a result any dining or bar facilities are removed to non-attendees. Room service only. Fortunately I was meeting friends elsewhere for food and on return The Marlborough Head pub is next door with a pleasant atmosphere which made up for any disappointment The only concern would be the pressure required to work the toilet button, you may need a work out before hand.
