It’s exactly as portrayed, you get one of the four houses in the photo. It’s small and the hallways are narrow, but it’s stunningly finished. The bathroom is a dream, the steam shower and bathtub is fantastic, and the tatami room is nice to experience. It’s within walking distance of pretty much everything in Kanazawa.
The beds as well as the tatami floor are rock hard, making sleep super uncomfortable. It’s a house I’d recommend for maybe 2 people, not more, because it’s tight and will get very crowded real quick. It’s also not for the mobility challenged as that staircase is steep, and narrow. There’s no kitchen but you can boil water and have a mini fridge.

The bathroom was very nice, we used the tub and the shower and it felt like our own private onsen. The upstairs/bedroom was very spacious and modern, with lights/usb ports built into the bed. The tv room was very comfy and had tea and coffee ready to make in a little teapot with some snacks. The washing machine/dryer worked well and helped us pack light on our trip. The host showed up to collect our info and fees, and he also recommended a sushi restaurant next door called EBISU Zushi. It was the best sushi experience I’ve ever had and I am so glad he recommended it to us. For around $25 total, my wife and I ate a multiple-course meal (including drinks and dessert). Also, the location is very close to Omicho market and the Higashiyama Chaya district (10min walk/5min bus ride) which are very popular tourist destinations.
The washing machine wash cycle goes really fast and it shakes the whole kitchen, so the toaster oven actually fell off of the microwave and made a loud noise. Just be aware before you start doing laundry. Besides that, we had no complaints!

The space really gave you a taste of the traditional with a modern twist. The Tatami room was a great place to relax and read in. The bathroom was exceptional and the bath was a great way to unwind after travelling for the day.
The amount of light switches for areas could get confusing on which did what light for a short stay. The kitchenette area was a bit cramped with no real place to put the rubbish bags.

Beautiful home with both a Japanese room and a Western Style room. Very comfortable, quiet and well equipped. Plus underfloor heating which is nice on colder mornings. FamilyMart just 1 min away plus a range of food options nearby.
Small thing, but would be nice to have a small dining table. Japanese room only has a small table, otherwise you have to eat on the sofa. But wasn't a big deal.

I mean, what not to like? I felt Japanese staying here 😂, the shower was AMAZING.
Unsure of why the check in time is strictly 3pm. We got there at 2pm and dropped off our luggage. The place was clean, and everything was ready yet we weren't allowed to stay.

A traditional machiya house in Kanazawa, within walking distance from Higashi district. I absolutely enjoyed my stay there and wish I had decided to stay longer.
