There isn't a loyalty scheme of computer-ised pre-check in in sight here. But if you are looking for a welcome by the fantastic staff just the way hotels used to be, look no further! I would say the friendliness, hospitality and helpfulness of the staff was the stand-out feature, but the public areas of the hotel were also great, as was the food in the restaurant, which was also quite reasonably priced. I arrived by train, and the location was unbeatable - right next to the station, but only a short walk to the town centre.

Very little. My budget single room on the top floor was quite comfortable; the bathroom was so tiny that the hand basin was combined with the toilet. Not a problem to me however. It's also worth being aware that there are a lot of stairs.

Breakfast was amazing and if you like a big breakfast you will not be disappointed. Need to select breakfast options on the formal the night before. Good selection to choose from which led me to choose too much my first breakfast. That said it was well presented and quality ingredients. Piping hot which was a nice change as so many other hotels present a tepid breakfast. Another bonus were the options to have breakfast as room service, takeaway or restaurant.

Only a single room was available for my stay. The room was quiet and well laid out with a lovely large on suite bathroom with shower over bath. As it was a single there was no bedside lamp. So options were the single ceiling LED above bed or other ceiling lights.

Staff were lovely, all pkeasant and helpful. Food is very good & locals come for evening meals. Restaurant more expensive than bar menu. Breakfast is included & was excellent - they also do room service or packed breakfast if you want.The single room had a very comfortable double bed and en suite bath & shower (with good power), both nice & hot. Radiators in room or bathroom both fast and efficient - I visited in March & just toasty warm. 5 minute walk from train station & 15 walk from 800 year old cathedral & the more recent elgin parkrun.

The hotel is right on a busy crossing but traffic noise was non existant. There was a bit of paint peeling high up on bathroom window but that's not to take away from quality of my accommodation. I'll be back.

A very warm welcome awaited us when we arrived off the train. The hotel is a very short walk from the railway station. Our room was huge and spotlessly clean with a large ensuite bathroom with both a bath and a walk-in shower. Breakfast (pre-ordered the night before) was tasty, and a special request was accommodated. Thank you. We didn't eat any other meals here but the food looked lovely and there was an extensive drinks menu available in the bar. Overall, it was an excellent one night stay, and all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

Not a problem for us, but the hotel has no lift so if you have mobility problems, make sure you aren't allocated a room on the 4th floor. Would have preferred to see more fruit/granola/yoghurt options available for breakfast and to decide on hot options on the day, not in advance.

Lovely staff, helpful and friendly. Ate in the restaurant one night and good choice of food. Also delicious. Good choice at breakfast too. A busy place, used by locals for meals and celebrations so that's a good sign. We had a good size of room - king size. Shower cubicle and a bath, both good sizes. We'd definitely stay again if we were in the area.

It was a bit hot in the room although the radiator was off but we just opened the window! The shower cubicle could do with a hand bar to hold on to, but that's all. Otherwise, perfect.

Very convenient to the train station and some buses, a 10-15 minute walk to the main shops in Elgin and the central bus station. Also there is a Lidl and a huge ASDA very close. The restaurant is good and the staff very helpful. The included breakfast is generous and very good.

There were two things that made me give a less than perfect score, but neither is a deal-breaker. First, the ensuite shower/toilet room is very narrow. It was a squeeze for me to get in the shower, but I am large. A thin person would have no problem. The sink is also very small. Second, I had room 16 which is off a passageway that connects two parts of the hotel. There is a door at each end of the passageway and they banged shut every time someone walked through. Fortunately this was not an issue after about 10:00pm but during the day it was annoying. If staying here ask not to be put in room 16 or 17. Other than that I had no complaints.

we had both dinner and breakfast dinner was excellent and had a great choice. Very well cooked very tasty and served by lovely staff , for whom nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent too with plenty of choice and pre ordering the night before meant everything was ready for us and no waste.! My husband enjoys his whisky and was impressed by the large collection of whiskies on offer.

For me personally, a lift would have made life a lot easier as I have mobility issues but we were allocated a room on the first floor so that helped. Stairs were not too steep either. Similarly a walk in shower would have been good as climbing into the bath, to get a shower was difficult, but this was only for me .......I still enjoyed my stay and would be happy to recommend the hotel My husband had no problems and really enjoyed his stay.

Pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room which was at the side of the hotel overlooking the garden are was nice and quiet. It was beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable. We did not have dinner at the hotel but the breakfast was excellent. Great location for accessing all the main routes out of town.

The drinks in the bar were a bit pricey but, that was more than compensated for by the pleasant and comfortable surroundings.

All the staff members we encountered were friendly, pleased to chat where time permitted and responsive to requests. Breakfast was excellent, pre-ordered the night before but freshly cooked quality ingredients with the all important hot plates. Our room was towards the rear of the hotel and was very quiet. The bathroom looked like it had been recently renewed such was the spotless condition. Plenty of tea and coffee with biscuits in room and replenished daily. The hotel is very handy for Elgin railway station and 10-15 minutes walk from the centre. It has a decent sized car park which was busy at times with people attending events or eating at the hotel.

Steps to higher floors might be a problem for some but I am sure help would be offered.

Attentive staff. Breakfast pre ordered and served just after I arrived or on time in my room. Dinner on time in my room or at a well appointed table in the restaurant. Really liked having a table I could work at. The bed was really comfy.

Not suitable for people with mobility issues. Particularly if they require wheelchair access. It's an older building and retro fitting with facilities for disabled people would be difficult if not impossible.
