Great location, a 20 minute walk into Newbury or literally a minute on the train which is right outside the hotel. Huge carpark. Bed is huge and really comfortable. Breakfast was very reasonable (£6.60 for continental Inc hot drinks and juices or a little more for a hot breakfast). Gluten free options at breakfast (ask for them) and on the general food menu. Staff were efficient and friendly.
Our room (30) was above the main door which is a smoking area. Was woken early on both mornings by cigarette smoke smell in our room which was horrible. The room was really hot and the window only opens a few inches so after a shower it was really sticky but there is a fan which helps.

Pleasant staff, nice bar with good bar food. Nice design of the room. Nice range of tea/coffee in the room. Nice and quiet room at the end of the corridor.
Quite hard to find the location of the hotel. The sat nav doesn't take you to the hotel car park. Had to drive around a while to work out how to get here even with some kind directions in a message from the hotel. In the room duvet under the duvet cover has a stain that could be seen through the white cover which was a bit off putting! The room was very hot, there was a fan but it was very noisy and didn't cool the room much. There were some hairs in the rim of the shower so could have done with a better clean.

Value for money. General cleanliness was great. Warm welcoming and friendly staff. Lovely quiet location which was great after a hectic few days of driving from the Lake District to the isle of Wight for job interviews and back again. Used the postcode as per the instructions on the website and it took us around the houses and we ended up being talked in by a really helpful bloke on reception. So I'd advise just to follow the brown road signs. Comfy bed. Plenty of tea and coffee.
Small bathroom.. Sit on the loo and you struggle to get the toilet roll off. Room was very stuffy even with the radiator off and window cracked. (good insulation I know) There was a mark on the throw on the bed which was clear to see and the hand-wash at the sink was empty so had to reach in to the shower to use the shampoo/body wash. Just little things missed by housekeeping. No real complaints just observations from a fellow hotel worker. It won't stop us using you again for a restful stay over to break up our journeys

Very nice and helpful staff. Room and bed and bedding comfortable, room small but usable. Good water pressure in shower. Nice breakfast options - continental and cooked breakfast available. Good hot and cold food items at other times of day. Full bar for drinks and soft drinks, lifts available on all floors. Room had nice towels, tea/coffee, kettle, hairdryer and fan. Window would open enough to get fresh air into the room.
Shampoo in room not refilled, fortunately I had my own. Doors on floor 1 are noisy to open/close, this could be heard from inside the room when adjacent doors were opening/closing late in the night/early in the AM. A small desk to work from would be a bonus.

The food at the premises was superb, breakfast, continental, full English, pastries, fruit, cereals, yogurts, juices, tea coffee and evening meals if you wished to purchased The bar was a great. So everything you need on the premises. Staff all very pleasant and happy to talk to and very helpful. The room was adequate, did have a fantastic king size bed, but the room was rather on the small size. No area to really move around in. The free parking was a brilliant feature. Hotel not far from the M4. So easy assess to the south and north of the country. If doing the Newbury races. Hotel is right next to the course. Near to the Nutfield Health Fitness Centre, which can use at an extra cost. (We never got the chance due to a busy few days)
Room 1. We asked for a quiet room, but I believe the room was situated over the kitchen, reception area. So all night you would hear a door shutting/banging below our room which disturbed our sleep. The room was adequate, a little on the small size. No wardrobes, just a few hangers on a open rail in the corner of the room. We placed a sign on the door to not be disturbed or the room made up, but came back from a day out to find this request had been ignored.

I always stay here when on business in Newbury. I like that it is so quiet so I can go to bed and wake up fresh for the next day. Breakfast is wonderful and the staff are lovely. Nice mattress in a well equipped room for a short stay. Kettle and tea/coffee in the room, and a fan, hairdryer and multiple charging points. I also a appreciate the thick heavy curtains and parking out front/ taxi service on auto-dial in reception. The bar is also open til late downstairs in the restaurant.

A no nonsense hotel, run as a tight ship, clean, tidy, friendly staff. They had a room when my previous room fell through. It was comfortable and clean. They even sorted me out a taxis to my workplace. Happy days.
Food offering could have been better. It's not terrible but for the price of the food, it could have been better too. Door to room was very tight and had issues with closing it; missing shower gel on first night, but that was fixed when I mentioned it to reception.

I arrived and had a lovely greeting, very nice and polite by Edna and then Will, exactly what i needed after arriving from Bristol on my bike, aching and in need of shower, food and a beer. Thank you Edna for sorting out my then, non charging phone. Day 2 would have been very difficult without it. 😃 The price for b&b was the best in the area, the rooms were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful, and the cooked was very enjoyable. All in all, I had a great time at this facility for my 1 night stay with the spectacular racecourse as a backdrop on the way in. Perfect place for my needs, all the staff I met evening and morning made me happy I'd chosen The Lodge. 👍

Bed was very comfortable. Room was clean and atmosphere in public spaces lovely. Rooms were too warm.
I couldn't get any toast with my breakfast as they had run out of gluten-free bread the day before. Staff did not even apologise when she told me 'no'. Bar menu also had just one GF option in snacks. No non-diary milk on the counter for cereal either. People with allergies shouldn't have to ask for possible alternatives and be told 'no' as if it doesn’t matter and we are just being awkward about our 'dietary preferences'. Maybe I should have told hotel in advance, but it’s about time hotels just provided it as a matter of course. We are not being awkward. We are protecting our health. Apologies for complaining! Hotel would have got top marks all around apart from this.

The room and the whole hotel was of a higher standard and the bed was more than comfortable.
The only thing I didn't like was the food. You could tell it was of a high standard and quality ingredients however the burger I had was literally a cremated burger in a burnt bun which the cheese, that I am pretty sure I paid more for, was almost see-through and it didn't come with and salad in the burger or sauce so was very very dry in the end. Breakfast which was included also had good quality meats, but you could tell it had either been under a hot plate or was over cooked.
