Our stay at Crabbers Wharf was a perfect family getaway with unforgettable sea views! The apartment was clean, well equipped, with lovely, calming decor —ideal for our family. Beds were comfortable, plenty of hot water for the showers and a kitchen that had everything we needed! We had a breathtaking view of the sea, so waking up and seeing the ocean from our bed was magical. The sunsets viewed from the balcony were absolutely stunning. We even got to watch fish swimming below—the perfect place! The area was peaceful at night, so no problems sleeping, and my daughters especially loved the paddleboarding and kayaking options included with our stay, which was a real treat! With so many places to explore nearby and such a lovely atmosphere for all ages, Crabbers Wharf is a perfect spot. Huge thanks to Sarah for making us feel so welcomed and for all her help, which was really appreciated. We’ll definitely return to Crabbers Wharf!

Property was incredibly clean and well presented. It’s clear that the team takes great care in the upkeep of the property, it felt as if we were the first people to stay! All rooms were well proportioned and well equipped. Interesting views from all angles of the property; enjoyed watching the sea, the boats, helicopters across the bay and even the military vehicles from the D-day museum. At the same time it was calm, peaceful and almost sleepy come 9pm. Staff were helpful and contactable if you needed them. Nearby transport was great to get around Portland or over to Weymouth. Never felt you were waiting more than 10 minutes for a bus. Nearby amenities included supermarkets, coffee shops and pubs. Local area has lots to do including museums, nature walks and castles and is a great base if you enjoy walking the coastal paths. Felt safe, peaceful and relaxing throughout.

Beds maybe. Got used to them but found a little uncomfortable (especially single beds). Boiler/ water heater a little noisy at night but again soon got used to the different noises. Spare bin bags and some kitchen roll would be nice. Maybe a little vacuum to.

We booked a 5 day stay at Crabbers Wharf from the 28th of July to the 1st of August 2025 for 5 of us (2 adults and 3 children aged 5, 8 and 13). We stayed in the Captains cabin and it was absolutely fantastic. 3 double bedrooms, each with their own en-suite, with bedding and towels provided and ample clothes storage. The balcony offered fantastic views across the harbour, I found myself spending most of my time sitting there, admiring the view and listening to the calming sound of the water lapping against the floating walkway. The upstairs kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need to be fully self catered and the built in dishwasher was a lifesaver! Everything was extremely clean and well kept, and the free use of the on-site laundry facilities was a huge convenience (especially with 3 kids!) The apartments are located within walking distance of the D-day museum and the lovely Dorset Adventure Cafe which were both brilliant. There are also kayaks and a small rowing boat available for guests to use free of charge. All in all, we were all extremely impressed with everything and everyone we encountered at Crabbers Wharf, and we will be booking a longer stay for next year's summer holiday.

The code for the front gate was changed mid stay, firstly locking us in, then on the next day locking us out. A quick phone call to the out of hours number resolved the issue in no time at all.

Communication before checkin was excellent and we were grateful to be able to park our car early. We were in cabin 7, which had one bedroom and was towards the end of the row. The view from the balcony was magical. Even on the morning when it rained a lot, we could sit and watch what was happening on the water. The sunset was amazing! The suite itself was modern and well equipped. We found the bed to be very comfortable and the shower was good. We recommend The Little Ship for eating, as my husband said the steak was one of the best he'd ever had, and very reasonably priced. We also had a chinese from The Ocean Bay takeaway delivered, which was very tasty. Just around the corner is The Green Shutters pub. We visited there a few times and found the staff and regulars to be welcoming and friendly. The coast path is accessible through the harbour area and we followed that once to Weymouth and once to Portland Bill. Both walks were about 5 miles and very scenic. The number 1 bus is very regular and we caught this back from both walks.

The only thing we didn't like was the men fishing just below the balcony and this spoilt our enjoyment of sitting out on a couple of evenings. We did mention this and were told that it was possible to close the gate to prevent people from doing this.

The accommodation was fine, and the view from decking was nice with amazing sunsets. There was a bus stop just a short walk away where you could get a bus into Weymouth. The D Day Centre was at the end of the car park.

If you sat on the decking, you could hear next doors conversations, and also, if children were running along the front, it was loud inside. The lock on the gate to get into the area was at a low level, so you had to bend down to see it. A higher gate would be easier.

View from bedroom and lounge balconies was beautiful as long as you didn't look too far to the left. Property was clean nicely laid out and quirky. There is a lot to do in Portland, lots of water based activities as well sight seeing.

View from one side was fantastic but you have to close your eyes to the fact that Castletown is a really run down area. Double bed in the master bedroom has seen better days as have most of the pillows. Not suitable for disabled people, I hadn't realised that you had to climb quite a steep staircase.

Although we initially thought the location to be a bit ‘industrial’, it was very interesting to watch the coming and goings of the cruise ships and fishing boats, and in no way detracted from our stay. The view from the balcony was stunning. The property is of a high quality. There is a bus stop outside Lidl (less than a 20 minute walk away) that goes to Weymouth. There is an excellent cafe opposite the road to the property which we had breakfast in. The lady in the tourist information office underneath the property was very helpful.

Just a small thing but we would have preferred mugs to tea cups. The local shop left a lot to be desired! (Lidl was excellent). It would have been great if we could have hired some binoculars - maybe something the tourist office could offer!

Lovely view from the balcony, we went in November and the heating worked well. Unique shape of the property which adds to the experience, very friendly staff

The smell in the whole apartment was really bad, we believe it was coming from the drains especially the bathroom. We thought it would air out so we opened the windows when we left for the day but when we came back it was no better, it was then after hours so we couldn’t approach anyone in the reception. It kept us up at nights and gave us bad headaches as it was so strong and unbearable. The shower was mouldy, the shower lacked hot water, it was barely luke warm so was really difficult to have a nice shower , the pressure in the shower head was also very very weak. The bedroom is by the main walk to the apartments so you can hear people walking up and down especially in the morning when they’re checking out with their luggages.

The apartment overlooking the bay was excellent. The 4 rooms were a good size, clean and tidy with 2 en suites and everything we needed for a short stay. Cafe in outbound centre. Staff/Tessa was polite and helpful. Bus route into Weymouth.

The bed mattresses were hard so difficult to sleep on. Solution provided by staff. We were in cabin 2. Loud floorboards from cabin 1 which was the only real issue. Appears it’s the flooring in cabin 1 bathroom. Noisy. Needs to be repaired. However, still a 9 based on all factors.

Great location being very central for exploring Dorset Coast from the Studland Peninsular to Lyme Regis. Some very good eating close to appartment. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our seven days there, only wish it had been longer.

Next time I will take a shower mat. I had to stand on one of their hand towels in the shower. Not sure if it was their shower gel or cleaning material but it was so slippery. Everything else perfect.
