Absolute paradise only 20-30 minutes from SJO. If you need a place to stay close to the airport at the beginning of your trip in CR, you should stay here. A longer stay would be great as well, I just can’t speak to its convenience to local attractions other than SJO. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is lovely, the rooms are charming, the beds are comfortable and the included made to order breakfast is delicious. I booked this for our last night in CR because I knew a standard chain hotel would be soul crushing at the end of our trip - I will recommend this hotel to anyone I know travelling to CR!

Our second stay at Villa Margarita, a great spot to spend a night at the beginning or end of the trip as it's an easy trip to or from the airport, yet just far enough away to have a quiet and comfortable stay in a local neighborhood. Due to heavy traffic around San Jose, we recommend a night close to the airport at arrival and departure to save yourself the stress of having to make a long and difficult drive before or after a flight. A number of good restaurants close by, and the Villa provides a great breakfast. Margarita is a great host and very attentive to her guests. We would stay here again for sure.

I loved how special this property was, especially the attentiveness of the owner, Margarita. She was so sweet and accommodating! We arrived late to the property, but she stayed up late to warmly greet us, help us with our bags and even stayed up late to make us a beautiful homemade dinner! In the morning, her and her staff made us a wonderful breakfast. We could tell that Margarita poured so much love into her property. The whole property was lush, green and filled with quirky decorations.There was a huge playground for kids, a pool and the room was perfect. Quiet, clean and great wifi. This place is magical!

Location was gorgeous, wonderful to have the meals included, House was very friendly. We loved the pool and the viewing platform and all the personal touches. My only suggestion would be to clarify that the drive to the property was on some roads that were a little remote – – and there were moments where I wasn’t sure we were doing the right thing! And on a trip where there were several instances of not being able to check in someplace because the host wasn’t around or on site, I would have liked to know that This was a case where the host was on site! But we absolutely loved our stay and would definitely come back through next time we were in San Jose.

The property was close to the airport and we were able to walk to local restaurants (5-10min) and even to Rescate wildlife rescue (Zooave). The family room with the green beds was really spacious and had a full sized fridge. The owner was really lovely and helpful, she gave us a lift at one point and had many suggestions of things we could try. Breakfasts were delicious. The pool was very welcome. The gardens were lovely and teaming with birds. The children’s play area was more substantial than it appeared on photos and had monkey bars and hanging rings that were more than suitable for my older kids (& adults!) I had been slightly worried about the dogs being problematic but they were not an issue, very laidback and unobtrusive. We were also able to get an Uber eats delivery and eat it there in the evening

Nothing - there is no TV in the room which for me was a good thing! The soap dispenser in the bathroom was a bit broken, but useable - if I am to be very fussy!

The actual owner is really nice, "hands on" and helpful. Liked the ease of getting around the property and the little bohemian feel. Nice little eating area with drinks available on the "honor system". Included breakfast is very good and even if you aren't in the mood for pancakes they aren't traditional and really good.

A litlle suprised that there is no TV or air conditioning in the room but in the end you really don't need them. You have a large overheand fan and wi-fi is availble throughout the property.

We absolutely loved our stay at Villa Margarita and wished we could have stayed longer. The grounds and rooms are so pretty. Everything is clean and comfortable. There are a lot of different trees and flowers on the property and we saw so many birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Just strolling the grounds is so relaxing. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped. The bed super comfortable. There is a small open-air restaurant on the property and it's so cute. Skip the expensive hotels coming in and out of San Jose and give this place a try. You will not regret it.

Great hotel not far from the airport - 10-minute-drive if there is no traffic jam: very nice family rooms, beautiful tropical garden, lots of amenities for kids, places to sit and relax for adults, and a small swimming pool to relax after a visit or after a long flight We spend 3 days there with the kids, and they loved it!!! The owner is nice and goes out of her way to help I can't recommend it more

Our host Margarita was exceptionally welcoming, and helpful! This is a great way to end a week in Costa Rica with our family convenient to the airport, but in a beautiful relaxed setting with a view of the Poas volcano! The rooms were large and the beds were comfortable and we were pleasantly surprised to see a good selection of toys and games for our kids to play with! Our boys really loved playing with the dogs, especially Matilda, the soccer loving pup!

Really lovely feel to the whole property. Nice pool area. Lovely room. Great big extra king bed and lots of space. Hot shower (although flow was a bit poor). And quiet neighbourhood with lots of birds and cicadas and iguanas. Hosts super accommodating with an early check in and helped us with various things and booked us an airport taxi to leave too.

We just felt that the price didn’t quite reflect the overall standard. But this is possibly all the extra charges applied by booking.com and wouldn’t have been as high a price if we’d have booked direct! Worth noting that a lovely German family with 5 kids (whom our kids enjoyed playing with) were hosting while the owner was on holiday. So our experience may have been better, worse, same or just different had the host herself been there.
