The Pentland Lodge House exceeded our expectations in so many ways. We were greeted by hearty and welcoming hosts, who made us feel right at home. Our room had AMPLE space and was in pristine condition when we arrived. We had no trouble relaxing right away. The Pentland Lodge House is tucked away in a quiet location, yet only a few minutes walk away from Thurso beach and the high street with tons of dining options. The following morning, we enjoyed a proper breakfast with generous portions cooked to perfection. Our favourite was the thick, farm style slice of toast and selection of jams. Lovely big light and airy room with a huge & very comfortable double bed. Ensuite clean and well provided for. Quiet and had a lovely view of the sea through a side window. Room had a really good guide to local walks, history & things to do. Breakfast on first day was great and Liz was super-helpful with everything and organised me a really good packed breakfast for the early train the next day. She kept it in the fridge overnight so I could just pick it up on my way out. A very comfortable, friendly and welcoming place to stay.

Not to do with the accommodation but if going anywhere by taxi I found out good to order as far in advance as possible as some of the taxis are get booked up quickly.

First, the hotel is a little bit further from the station than some of the other options but Thurso is a small place so it was still a very manageable walk. That was more than made up for by the close proximity to the Esplanade and the water. I had the single room which easily met my needs. It was clean, tidy, and the en-suite bathroom had hot water with good water pressure. The breakfast was fabulous, freshly cooked to order with top quality ingredients. I have to eat gluten-free and the bread that I was offered was some of the best that I have found since arriving in the UK. There is a Lidl supermarket just up the road if you need supplies to take onward. On checkout day we left suitcases at Pentland for the morning and were told to just ask for a coffee if we needed it when we came back! Our hostess is local to the area and is more than willing to share information. The stay was absolutely a pleasure and I definitely plan to book here again when I go back!

There was nothing that I did not like.

Everything: the location was great, easy walking to town centre and to the ocean walks, and yet away from noise; the rooms and beds were large and comfortable; the breakfast was delicious with lots of choices, all well prepared. The best part was the staff - Liz, the owner/operator is fantastic - friendly and helpful, with lots of stories from the area, and advice/help when we needed it. Her staff were all friendly and helpful. Loved the tartan carpet!

Stairs - but this was our problem, not the owners! The hand rails were well placed and solid.

Friendly staff, easy checking in, huge room ! Lovely very large bed, comfortable which resulted in a great nights sleep. Lots of parking. Property very close to the coastline so we were able to see dolphins when we took a stroll to walk the dog. Very dog friendly staff. Breakfast was very tasty and nice to note the bread clearly was hand cut and fresh as opposed to a pre sliced loaf which resulted in a great sausage sandwich. Coffee was excellent and plentiful. Great value for money.

Floor was a little squeaky in places but that did not spoil our stay.

It was in an excellent location near the beach and just down the road from the town centre and other amenities and bus stops for buses going to John o groats Wick and scrabster for the Orkney ferry (I didn’t travel to Orkney this time but will consider doing it next time I come up)

A very friendly welcoming hostess a very clean house and room with everything I needed provided for me and a generous and delicious breakfast.

Very friendly and helpful host. Easy to find and park at the Hotel. Breakfast options were good. Quiet and pleasant location on the edge of town, easy to walk along the sea front to access shops and eateries. Very short hop from here to the ferry at Scrabster. Host arranged an early breakfast for us to ensure we made the early ferry in plenty of time.

Very hard to open the window in our room.

Exceeded all expectations for the price. House filled with love from styling down to service, with care for the planet and sourcing supplies locally. Delicious breakfast and we even ate our takeaway in the dining room on the previous evening! A real gem and highlight of our travels around Scotland. Well worth experiencing and in an incredible location for the sea front.

We loved it all! Towels not as sumptuous as our previous location but still cosy and far easier to wash and dry - the whole ethos of the place just made sense.

A very spacious, comfortable and well-equipped room in a delightful house. An excellent hostess who looked after us very well and who provided (in the rooms) an information booklet second to none. (I only wish I had time to read it more thoroughly). The house was in a quiet location, with ample car parking, only a 5 minute walk from the town centre. The breakfast was excellent. Overall, good value for money.

There was nothing we didn't like.

Lovely friendly wecolme (Lisa is wonderful), great room with loads of space and great facilities. Just a short walk from the town centre and close to the beach. Freshly cooked breakfast with good quality ingredients. Property is easy to locate with plenty of on site parking. Would definitely recommend.

Nothing not to like. Shame we couldn’t have stayed longer.
