From the moment we arrived at Hotel Gran Bretagna, we knew we were in for something special. Check-in was a breeze, but what made it truly exceptional was the warm welcome from the hosts. Not only were they friendly and attentive, but they also shared incredibly helpful insider tips on the best local beaches, must-see historical sites, and authentic restaurants – most of which ended up being highlights of our trip! Our room was immaculate – spotlessly clean and beautifully scented, giving off a fresh and calming atmosphere. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, making it hard to get up in the mornings – though the promise of breakfast made it easier. The location couldn’t be more perfect – right in the heart of Ortigia, everything was just a short stroll away, from charming piazzas and ancient ruins to the seafront and bustling local markets. And speaking of mornings, breakfast at the hotel was a true delight. The hosts lovingly presented a variety of local products, each one more delicious than the last. As we sipped our coffee and sampled fresh cheeses, pastries, and fruits, they shared more fantastic recommendations and stories that made us feel like locals. Hotel Gran Bretagna isn’t just a place to stay – it’s an experience in itself. Warm, comfortable, perfectly located, and full of heart, it’s a dreamy base for anyone looking to truly enjoy Ortigia. We can’t wait to return!

Nice location just a couple of blocks into Ortigia. The room had high ceilings and artwork that some may find unappealing, though we found it fun. Staff is nice and breakfast was good. Easy location to explore the area. Close to restaurants and staff eager to help in selecting. Good stay.

The hotel is two conjoined buildings - causes confusion on arrival as the first sign is not really the main entrance. Given it is a glass door, a simple sign pointing to “Lobby” could solve the problem. The room looked a little worn, but might be a work in progress - should not deter from selecting. On weekends and warmer weather street noise could be an issue.

The staff were outstanding and honestly this makes all the difference. We were greeted upon arrival and checked in promptly by a charming young person who also took my luggage upstairs personally. This tone remained for the entire stay with the staff being hugely helpful, positive and cheerful. Breakfast was quite a feast and the staff ensured all needs were met. Their kindness and attentiveness never wavered. Fantastic location! In the best spot for the market and exploring Ortigia. Room was spacious and comfortable. Great value for money!

The hotel is in a good location in Ortigia, close to the major historical and cultural sites, harbour and promenades to circumnavigate the island along the sea front. Plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby, including an in-house cafe that offers easy access to reception. Our room at the rear of the hotel was large and simply furnished, with a balcony allowing side views towards the harbour - and sea on the opposite side. Manager Francesca was very engaging and helpful, also ensuring we were well catered-for at breakfast that also included coffees made to order. Andrea was also helpful, assisting with our luggage to/from our room. We’d be happy to stay again.

Very good location and the staff is welcoming and always with a smile on their face. Andrei from the reception is a very warm person. The breakfast has few options, but enough to start the day. I appreciated that continental breakfast options were available (boiled eggs, ham, cheese, omlette - on request). They can make esspreso or tea for you. Spacious room and the balcony was nice.

The biggest minus of our stay was the shower, that has only the ceiling dispenser. I hated having to shower with shower cap and showering the toddler was difficult. The floors are stone/cement, so the room is quite cold (we visited off-season, in March). The room has AC, that we used for heating now and then. Hard mattress 🙁 Narrow corridors with lots of stairs. It wasn't an impediment for us, but it's useful to keep in mind if you have health issues or mobility challenges.

Breakfast was very good. Location was perfect on Ortigia Island - it was fairly easy to access with car and park at nearby lot. It was an easy walk to everything. Room was big and comfortable. Staff was very nice and helpful.

While bathroom was more than fine, it could use a little update. The price/value was reasonable, but it was a little more expensive then the other places we stayed at in Sicily.

The breakfast buffet was wonderful, and they made coffee to order. Great selection of fruit, eggs, and other breakfast items. Francesca was amazing. So friendly, so accommodating, and so helpful in making our stay special. I wish I had booked extra nights at their hotel.

Minor, but important. There is no elevator. Even if you are on the second floor, you'll have to navigate 3+ flights of stairs. Not a deal breaker, but if you have heavy luggage, beware.

Great location, helpful friendly staff and good breakfast. Hotel very clean.

As usual, the single room was at the back of the property overlooking an inner courtyard. It was dark and made even more so because I had to keep the curtains closed due to other guests passing in front of the window. The bathroom was spacious but it would be a good idea to put in a small table/cupboard to place toiletries, the tiny glass shelf is not sufficient

I liked many things. 1: the staff was super helpful and caring, in particular Francesca ( she is amazing and really cares for the guests. she goes above and beyond). 2: the hotel is well located in Ortigia, not far from the bridges that connect Ortigia with the modern Siracusa, close to the stop of the Hop-on, Hop- off bus and the Arethusa Spring 3: the breakfast is abundant with a good selection of sweet & savory. I particularly enjoyed the various tarts ( the pistachio is super good)

there is not elevator, so you need to climb a lot of stairs if your room is in the second or third floor. the young man at the reception helped us with the suitcases, he was very nice
