The location is excellent, the welcome at reception was professional yet personable. The room was a good size. The bed very comfortable. The restaurant was very comfortable, the menu choice and was service was extremely good. The breakfast choice was excellent as was the service. I would definitely recommend and stay again.
There was no phone in the room so not able to contact reception. The remote control for the TV was cracked almost broken. The tea/coffee facilities were sufficient although in the wrong place in the room! No plug where the kettle was so had to move it to next to the bed. A simple rejig of the furniture In The room would solve the few issues I came across.

We have been to the Gables a couple of times before, and once again it didn't disappoint. Clean, neat room, tea and coffee making facilities available. We were given a guest information sheets which was helpful. Breakfast lovely and most staff brilliant.
There's only one thing we don't like about the Gables, which is a certain male member of staff. We find him to be what I would describe as "pass-remarkable" and somewhat rude. In fact, when we told him we didn't want alcoholic drinks he pressed for a reason why not, which, it occurs to me, wouldn't be good if you were a recovering alcoholic and you had someone saying "oh go on, have a drink". In fact we didn't eat at the hotel because of his behaviour.

We were attending a wedding at The Gretna Hall Hotel so we stayed here at The Gables in the triple room. The staff were great, gave us a lovely welcome, arranged early check-in and couldn't help us enough. The room was basic but very comfortable and perfectly suitable for a one night visit. Full Scottish breakfast was delicious and very filling. We would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is a little dated but adequate and still very well kept. Wifi, tv and phone signal wasn't great. And - absolutely no fault of The Gables - but it was impossible to get a taxi between the two venues, reliable taxis do not exist in Gretna which I find baffling considering the demand.

Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and there was plenty of parking and price was value for money.
Food in the restaurant was not as good as I'd hoped. Starters were delicious, but main courses were disappointing. I ordered chicken supreme expecting to get chicken in a white sauce with mushrooms, etc., what I got was grilled chicken. It was nice, but not what I expected. My husband had the curry but this was just chicken, carrot and chickpeas with rice. The food was perfectly edible but not what we expected from the menu description. It was reasonable value for money though.

We stayed at the Gables for one night as a stopover on a long drive north. It's a pleasant enough hotel .. not particularly fancy but clean and comfortable and we had an extremely warm welcome from the staff and service was always delivered with a smile. Our dog was made particularly welcome and she even got her own sausage at breakfast.
We had no complaints at all. The restaurant wasn't open for food the night we stayed but we'd been informed of this in advance and there were several other hotels within easy walking distance that we were able to go to for an evening meal.

This was my first time at the Gables and found it to be a decant place to stop over on route to NC500. The staff made every effort to make my stay pleasurable and found the food that was on offer to be tasty but limited due to Mothers day set menu which took away my option I wanted. There was a fair on across the road so was a little noisy at times but got a decant nights sleep. I think the staff make this place a warm friendly place to come and would come again.
Just an observation but think a couple of extra staff at busy times would speed the process up as the one lad who served my meal was also the bartender and was ran off his feet but did brilliant job. Deserves a pay rise lol

I booked a family room in the app due to no single being available. However, when I arrived, my room was ready, and when I entered, my jaw dropped. Immediately, I saw a four-poster bed. Upon entering the bathroom, I was pleasantly greeted with a jacuzzi bath and quite a large shower cubicle, the bed itself was comfortable, the tv (in my opinion) was to small but worked fine, there was a must smell when I entered the room but that soon dissipated. I thought I had been given a bag of sweets but it was the tea and coffee in a sweet bag, the staff were very helpful as I was in the area to photograph a wedding at the blacksmiths and the receptionist gave me a fob to open the door when I returned as the exterior doors are locked at 10pm until 7am.
The musty smell wasn't unbearable but was noticeable, and the tv was too small.

The staff went above and beyond, couldn't have been taken care of more, really went out if their way, advice on where to eat , gin recommendations, gave us a bigger area to prepare for our wedding we were attending, gave as a beautiful breakfast so kind and helpful. Anything else we needed we just asked and it was delivered thankyou so much for having us , highly recommend for a family of 5
One bed(mattress) wasn't to comfy(but I am heavy) but the other 4 were great 👍

A great rest place for our LEJOG trip. Goos was excellent both at evening and at breakfast. Our room was a shock as it had a four poster bed and a jacuzzi bath. Most unexpected. Staff were very helpful and an excellent recovery place for us before returning home. Easy to walk to the Caledonian shopping area and to the more traditional blacksmiths shop at Gretna Green. Helpful with storing husbands expensive bike and Gluten free was no problem. The waitress in the evening was well on the board knowing not only what was GF but how options could be adapted. Loved our stay and the lovely weather was a bonus!
One of the younger waitresses on the Sunday breakfast forgot part of our order then got it wrong when reminded. She was the only staff member we had who was not positive or welcoming. We excused it as we have no idea of her circumstances but do expect faults to be admitted!

The property was a large sprawling house/ hotel . It was old but very well kept. Because I had a dog with me I was on the ground floor yeah !! & the staff even gave me a short cut to the outside where I had parked my car so it was so convenient. ( traveling with Dog think Baby) lots of luggage. The room was large and the en-suite was modern . Dog Bowls provided. . Set in large grounds so able to exercise the dog easily . Restaurant was good .
Font of house in restaurant in the evening was the Barman / Waiter. Who was more interested in my dog and forgot to order my food . Waited over an hour . When I asked and he made some excuse about the order not going through on the computer. I was the only one I at 5.30 pm . By the time I had finished a few other people had arrived ………they got their food promptly. …..
