WOW! Soraniwa is just an amazing hotel and may be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. If you are going to Kyoto, choose this hotel and you will not regret it. From the moment we checked in, we were treated like royalty. We booked a Precious Twin 3rd-4th floor with 2 twins pushed together. Maybe that is why we were given the VIP treatment. They guided us to a VIP desk, where we were seated and served tea with a sweet treat while the host checked us in. She also walked us to our room via a separate elevator. We were in awe of our beautiful, large room with its own onsen and balcony. The bar area was fully stocked with water, several beverages, and the most delicious cookies, all included in the rate and restocked every day. The bed was extremely comfortable, and I really enjoyed having a sitting area and the bathroom area was amazing. Felt so spoiled with the fancy bidet that operated on it’s own and never had to touch a single button (light, lid up and down, and flushing on its own!) Great shower that led to the onsen, that was always ready to use. You could open the sliding doors to the balcony or outside while in the onsen. On top of that, the hotel is in a fantastic location with the cute bridge to lead you to the Gion area, huge department store nearly across the street, and restaurants nearby. The hotel can give you a list of nearby restaurants, and one we loved was Kacto. We went there twice! We called the concierge for a recommendation, and she actually came to our room to help us, and the restaurant was amazing! They also suggested another restaurant near where we were going, and it was also amazing! Then there is the beautiful rooftop bar with the beautiful view and foot spring water! That was always such a treat to look toward Gion and the beautiful mountains, while relaxing and being spoiled with the service. I would give this hotel a 20 out of 10 if I could. I really hope to return with its beauty and out of this world custo

The only small thing would be the lack of storage for our clothes, but I do not think I would change a single thing!

Very well maintained, excellent location, friendly and thoughtful staff, service was exceptional. Housekeeping was impeccable. Extremely comfortable bed and super soft and silky sheets. Lovely extras like complimentary drinks, snacks and ice cream. Daily Japanese breakfast and kaiseki dinner was superb.

Our room on the second floor was quite spacious and comfortable, however the only drawback being on the second floor is when you are out on the balcony, the food / smell of cooking from the restaurants below is very strong. This was not so pleasant. Other than that, everything was perfect.

This hotel is a true gem! It perfectly combines traditional Japanese elements with modern amenities. The rooms are beautifully appointed with meticulous attention to detail, providing just the right amount of space. And the private onsen-style bath is a delightful bonus. The breakfast is absolutely incredible! The food is of top quality and comes in a wide variety of dishes, making it the perfect fuel for your day. The staff is absolutely amazing too — they go above and beyond to make sure you have a wonderful stay. You’ll truly experience the best of Japanese hospitality here.

I cannot speak enough about how great of a stay I had at this hotel. I stayed in a 4th floor room with private onsen. The room was very clean, and had all the features I could need. The room was very spacious, had a great view of the mountains, and the private onsen was so relaxing. All of the staff I interacted with were very helpful and always so friendly. The breakfast offered every morning was a different kaiseki and featured a variety of dishes and tastes. The location of the hotel is close to many shopping malls, a walking distance from Gion, and accessible to transit (bus & subway). Everything about my stay was wonderful!

The private open-air bath was so beautiful, as well as the communal baths on the 9th floor. I loved the deep baths and being able to look at the sky. The private entrance was beautiful and so was the terrace foot bath. The rooms are gorgeously decorated and the skincare provided is delightful. The yukata were lovely.

That they did not have extended sizes of Yukata. The owners of the hotel must know that people from different sizes and from different parts of the world will be visiting. I was not able to participate in wearing yukata because they only had tiny sizes. Extremely disappointing. They should carry up to 4L to make it inclusive like other places. Very discriminatory.

We chose a room with a private bath (outside), a first for us, it was so nice! What surprised us the most is the absence of noise, like traffic and the tourists buzz, which amazed us so much as the hotel is located in the city center! Another good point, the hotel is so well located, the bus stop and subway are just less than 5 minutes walk! I also want to thank the staff as they welcomed us very nicely and helped us send a lost item we forgot in our room back to us.

Great location and amenities. It’s within walking distance to the Gion District and the shopping/dining options on Kawaramachi St. Our favorite part was the in-room onsen, which we ended up using at least once a day during our stay.

There wasn’t a gym, and there isn’t room service or a typical dining room for meals. You can pay extra for the kaisekei meals at the first floor restaurant, but something a little more low-key would be nice. Overall, these were minor problems and didn’t detract from the stay in any meaningful way.

Stunning corner room with every comfort - even a private Onsen with Mountain View (which we enjoyed many times). We loved spending time in the room and slept like babies in the super comfortable beds. Great location next to the river from which to access the best parts of Kyoto. The inclusive mini-bar was well stocked and replenished every day, so we had pre-drinks in our room before going out each night. ‘Restaurant Row’ is 1 min away with so many food options it’s almost overwhelming. Private entrance at the rear is like something from a James Bond movie!

I wish a breakfast (even a little hamper at the door) had been included. It said it was available for an additional charge but they don’t have any food - not even milk for coffee. Otherwise this place is a 10/10.
